What’s New on Gugu: April 24, 2019

by Abby Ludwig Leave a Comment

This week’s new finds highlight some great Earth Day friendly selections. Reusable food pouches, baby food makers, and food grade silicone bottles are all great new items for the eco-friendly family. You will also notice some pop culture trends popping up this week. Baby Shark anyone? For loads of our other favorites, please check out our Explore page!

Baby Brezza Food Makers and Reusable Pouches: Earth Day celebrations always remind me to make smart choices regarding the products we use in everyday life. Baby Brezza has continued to make the ‘homemade baby food game’ a reality with easy to use machines and reusable pouches! Simply pop your favorite fruit and/or veggies in the container (love the Glass for eco-friendly or the new Deluxe) and watch them cook and blend with ease. Pour any delicious mixture into the reusable pouch and you’re good to go! Added bonus – the pouches are top-rack dishwasher safe!

Hatch Maternity x Nordstrom: As we (not so) patiently await the arrival of Baby Sussex, it has become much easier to attain our own ‘Markle Sparkle!’ The new collaboration between Hatch Maternity and Nordstrom highlights items from a brand we love so much. Pair together classic tops, pants, and dresses to keep things comfy and chic!

Baby Shark Toys and Walker: The ‘Baby Shark’ craze doesn’t seem to be leaving us anytime soon. Wowwee, the brains behind ‘Fingerlings’ continue to create engaging toys for our little ones. We have a love/hate relationship with their line of singing shark characters, which will instantly burn that catchy tune into your brain! Plus, coming in October is their newest toy, a brand new Baby Shark inspired walker for baby.

Boon NURSH Silicone Bottles: Another Earth Day find, the Boon NURSH bottle system utilizes a special bagged venting system that is reusable. Ideal for preventing gas, easily squeeze the silicone pouch to remove any excess air before feeding your babe. Plus, all parts are dishwasher safe!

Skip Hop Greenwich Convertible Hip Pack: With Mother’s Day around the corner, we love this sleek take on the fanny pack. Great for travel, we love this new hands-free accessory to hold the essentials. Pair with a diaper bag for an excellent gift for any mama-to-be!

Please note that these opinions are 100% my own. I have not received any products in exchange for placement in What’s New on Gugu!

What’s New on Gugu: April 17, 2019

Our finds this week range from some eco-friendly/organic brands to the perfect childproofing tool for any home. Plus, one product that is not yet released, but so great that I couldn’t wait to share with all of you!

For loads of our other ever-changing favorites, please check out our Explore page!

Apple Park Organic Spring Collection: Apple Park creates high quality, organic baby products. Their product line ranging from gowns/pajamas to hats and plus animals is also the perfect baby gift! We love their new Spring Collection because it offers so many fun, bright prints in nearly every style imaginable! A great gift for that friend who loves organic clothes for their little one!

Door Monkey: As a parent of toddler twins, I often find myself saying ‘Watch your fingers!’ hundreds of times per day. However, once I discovered Door Monkey, I no longer had to stress about pinched fingers. It’s also the perfect childproof door lock to keep your little ones out. Installation is a breeze and tool-free, which makes the Door Monkey super useful for families who travel. A must-have for the babyproofing game!

Evenflo Pivot Xpore Stroller Wagon: A new find from the JPMA show, we love this affordable wagon/stroller, which is truly going to change the ‘stroller-wagon’ world. Complete with 2 canopies, all-terrain wheels, this stroller can change into a wagon with a quick flip of the handle. Although not on the market quite yet, this wagon will be launching in 2019!

4moms rockaRoo and mamaRoo: We LOVE the 4moms rockaRoo and mamaRoo at Gugu Guru. These swings mimic how a parent will rock their baby and give you a safe place to let baby lounge nearby. 4moms products are also at an angle, so great for babies with reflux. We also love the seat’s adjustable recline. However, I think the best part of 4moms’ products is how easy they are to put together. No need for any tools, simply click the parts together and you’re good to go! Perfect when you have a fussy baby who needs some movement ASAP!

Bannor Toys: Bannor Toys creates beautiful wooden toys, reminiscent of things you may have played with at your Grandparent’s house. They are made from beautiful natural wood (Cherry, Walnut, and Maple) which is not stained. Teethers are left ‘naked’ while other items are finished with organic paint, all natural beeswax and/or flaxseed oil. All silicone used is also food-grade and extremely high quality. Add Bannor Toys to your registry or pick up an extra-special gift for an eco-friendly mama-to-be.

What’s New on Gugu: April 10, 2019

by Abby Ludwig Leave a Comment

I absolutely love finding new products to share with our users. It is too easy to feel “overwhelmed” with all of the new products that hit the market each day. Having just celebrated Gugu Guru’s 4th birthday, our initial little ones aren’t even babies anymore! As your babies grow into toddlers and beyond, don’t hesitate to reach out to us for product help! We LOVE hearing from our users!

For loads of our other ever-changing favorites, please check out our Explore page!

Noggin Wipes: A truly no-mess solution to cradle cap, which affects over 70% of babies before their first birthday. These gently exfoliating wipes are created with an avocado-oil based solution, which continues to moisturize and break up cradle cap well after use. The disposable wipes will begin to work immediately, helping clear away the flaky (and unwanted) irritation.

Target’s Pillowfort Inclusive Line: Pillowfort, Target’s adorable line for kids’ décor, has revolutionized the market for children with sensory sensitivities. They have launched 20 new items, including weighted blankets, floor cushions, and a cocoon seat. Each high-quality product adds something special to this inclusive line. We cannot stop praising this line and Target’s approach to making everyone feel welcome!

Motif Medical’s Luna Breast Pump: Coming this month, The Luna Breast Pump is a great choice for working moms. It is sleek and small on the outside, but strong enough on the inside to help busy moms pump in less time. Plus it’s a ‘closed system,’ which means that your breastmilk will flow directly into the bottle and helps prevent contamination. Check their website for insurance coverage!

Mimish Storage Pouf: I am a sucker for multi-purpose items. Mimish has taken adorable décor and added even more functionality. Ever walk into your little one’s room only to find stuffed animals and toys everywhere? Look no further than this fun line of storage poufs! They will cleverly hide any mess while providing adorable aesthetic to every bedroom.

Edushape Baby Sensory Balls: Edushape’s sensory balls have been around since the late 90’s. There’s a reason why these continue to be a family favorite! We love this new set, which allow baby to explore various textures and colors with easy to grab materials.

What’s New on Gugu: March 13, 2019

by Abby Ludwig Leave a Comment

Our parents are always looking out for the latest and greatest products. However, it can be hard to sift through all the “noise.” This week, we have focused on 5 new products for you to check out. These are great to add to a registry, or to purchase for a growing toddler! For loads of our other favorites, please check out our Explore page! (Also, these opinions are 100% my own and I have not received any products in exchange for placement in What’s New on Gugu!)

GoSili Oh Cup: We love this new cup from our friends at goSili! This spill-proof cup can be sterilized in the dishwasher or microwave (major convenience points!). It will not collapse on the go and it’s made from a food-grade European silicone. This cup is great for babies and toddlers on the go.

Go Happy Memories and Art Set: A great gift for kids who are slightly older (think 3 and up), this set includes a travel journal, a postcard set, and a sketch book. With the option to purchase separately or as a set, we think this is a perfect gift for that family who is about to jet off for Spring break!

Chew Cube: Another Mommycon find, we loved learning about Malarkey Kids (creator of the Munch Mitt) newest toy, the Chew Cube. Using food grade silicone and a developmentally appropriate rattle cube, your little one will play (and teethe) with this toy all day long. Plus it is super easy to take on the go!

June & January for Mama: One of our favorite baby/kid lines has now introduced comfy wear for Mom! Made from a buttery soft stretchy cotton blend, these pieces are truly for moms in any stage. Pregnant, nursing, postpartum, they will fit your changing body through it all!

Mockingbird Stroller: One of our favorite new finds, we love this new direct-to-consumer stroller! It easily competes with high end strollers with great suspension, a huge storage basket, and comfortable stylish fabrics. This stroller is customizable and functions well for everyday use. We can’t wait to see this stroller truly revolutionize the game!

What’s New on Gugu: March 6, 2019

We’re back with another What’s New on Gugu! This week we’re sharing some items that are brand new to the market and others are oldies but goodies that you may not know about. For loads of our other favorites, please check out our Explore page!

Preggo Pickles: After trying this product at a baby show this past weekend, I was blown away! Not only are they delicious but they will truly satisfy that pickle craving that haunts many moms during pregnancy. Their unique flavors have also been created to support pregnant/new mom challenges (i.e. nausea and nursing). As an added bonus, they are extremely low in sodium when compared to other pickles on the market. So pregnant mamas crunch away!

bblüv Foöd and Döse: While National Snack Month may have ended (bye February!) we are still loving these new food storage containers from bblüv. Perfect for meals on the go, Foöd (coming soon!) is leak and odor proof and will keep your food warm (or cold) with it’s insulated walls. Plus the top can be used as a shallow bowl (with built in spoon!). Paired with the Döse stackable snack container, you will be set for on-the-go eating!

Magnetic Me Clothing: While these are not new to the market, the Magnetic Me Footies are always on my list of must-haves for new parents. The magnetic closure on these newborn essentials will be a game changer for those early days. The fabrics are so soft (I love the eco-friendly modal) and the patterns are adorable!

Toofeze: You’ve all been there (or will be soon!). Your little one is in pain from teething and nothing seems to be helping. Until Toofeze! A teether made of food-grade silicone and stainless steel, your baby will instantly be drawn to the cool relief.  When the stainless disc finally does warm up, simply stick it into a glass of cool (or ice) water and it will instantly chill. This will quickly become one of baby’s favorite toys.

Solly Baby Spring Collection: Another oldie but goodie, we often recommend the Solly Wrap to our users as a must-have for the fourth trimester. Not only do they have exceptional wrap carriers, but we also love the swaddle blankets and layette sets. Their new Spring collection is few of beautiful colors, and even a few patterns all great for Mom or Dad!

Toddler Tuesday: Huxbaby

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

Disclaimer: Gugu Guru’s editor received Huxbaby toddler apparel for review, however all opinions expressed are solely those of the editor.

For this week’s Toddler Tuesday, Gugu Guru mama of a two-year-old girl, Shana, talks about Huxbaby – an Aussie children’s apparel brand.

HuxBaby toddler fashion line is after my minimalist heart! Uncomplicated, a soft muted palette, stylish, and fun without being cutesy or saccharine. What’s not to love?

Huxbaby toddler fashion

Their designs are made of organic cotton and are ethically produced. Double love!

Huxbaby toddler

My daughter adores her Leah Dress, which aside from the obvious reasons (it’s pink and pretty), I love because I can pair it with a pair of leggings (like HuxBaby toddler ribbed leggings) and put a a long sleeve tee under it for cooler temps.

Check out this Australian brand for yourself – and be sure to snag an uber cool DJ Hux tee!

About Huxbaby
Huxbaby is about minimalist fashions for kids with an adult level of style. The brand’s designs blend super soft organic cotton with a clean aesthetic – clothes that allow kids to be kids without sacrificing style.

Toddler Tuesday: London Littles

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

Disclaimer: Gugu Guru’s editor received London Littles boots for review, however all opinions expressed are solely those of the editor.

Gugu Guru mama of a two-year-old girl, Shana, talks about London Littles boots and sand pits.

I admit, it may have taken a hurricane to make me realize my preschooler needed proper rain boots! I wanted something cute and stylish that would stand up to my nemesis – the sand pit at school.

London Littles checked both boxes and then some. Many of the rainboots available make you have to choose between either cute and flimsy or cute and so heavy your child has to clomp around in them.

While London Littles are sturdily made, they’re not too heavy for little legs. The quality is fantastic – even after many rounds in the sand pit, there has been no cracking or separation from the sole. Best of all, they’re super cute!

About London Littles
Inspired by their time living in London, and the curiosity and excitement of their own little girls, the founders created London Littles to capture the magic of childhood. Every day in London was an adventure, from riding double-decker buses along Oxford Street to seeing a fireball catapulted across the grounds during a daytrip to Warwick Castle, and even spying the queen on Exhibition Road. London Littles designs products that encourage children to have adventures – big or small – wherever they are.

CubCoats are made from durable and super soft material for cuddly comfort, and they are ethically sourced, double lined, made with premium materials. Here’s our hope: Your child will find both in their Cubcoat.” They have a ton of variations, and characters, even characters from some of your children’s favorite movies!

Jooki Music Player for Kids: When our team came across Jooki, we knew we had to share it with you all! Jooki is a super fun and intuitive – screen free way – for children to listen to music, audiobooks and more! The song or the story starts when the figurine is placed on Jooki. Jooki is so intuitive and perfectly designed that your little music fan immediately adopts it. You can listen to any type of music! You can stream your favorite music from Spotify, and Jooki also allows you to copy your music from an old CD, podcast, audio books. Once the playlists created on Jooki, whatever their source (Spotify, radio or files), you can link them with a figurine using the Jooki app on your smartphone or computer. Jooki is portable and strong, plus it has a solid strap to carry it. The characters are easily attached to Jooki. Your child will feel independent and can take Jooki to bed, in the car, to his grandparents house or to the beach. As a splashproof device it can be used in the bathroom and outdoors. Spice up your morning routine and start your day on the right foot by playing your kid’s favourite song. The Jooki app also offers parental controls, such as the ability to turn off Jooki remotely at bedtime. Jooki helps passionate parents create a musical environment for their families spending quality moments far from a screen. Check out this video to see the Jooki in action!

The Field: When it comes to gifts for toddlers and to toys for kids in general, we always love ways kids can unplug and play together with! Our editor’s kids loved this toy and we wanted to share it as a great gift for toddlers and kids this holiday season. Created in Ireland, The Field toy is a must-have holiday gift for kids that helps inspire real world, screen-free, and imaginative play. This must-have field toy features lush green grass, hedging, traditional wooden farm gates, farm animals, a tractor, and more! Creative play is proven to have intellectual, emotional and social benefits, and The Field toy is the perfect way to help boys and girls ages 3+ get away from the screens and use their own ingenuity to develop a farm or outdoor world right in front of their eyes.

7AM Enfant GlacierPOD: When it comes to holiday time, there is always travel to be done – and this gift idea is more for the family of a toddler, but so cool nonetheless! The 7AM Enfant GlacierPOD keeps your tyke warm and cozy during the cold winter months. The 5-point harness universal openings are ideal for securing into any stroller and car seat, plus the detachable cover can be used separately as a blanket. Back to Preschool Snacking & Mealtime Must-Haves

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

Gugu Guru mama of a two-year-old, Shana, tells us about her preschool must-haves for snacking and mealtime.

SkipHop Zoo Snack Cup
From babyhood to toddlerhood to preschool age, a spill-proof snack cup is a preschool must-have! Cuteness factor aside (SkipHop’s line features the cutest little animal and insect friends), these snack cups promote independent snacking and are oh so practical – hello, no more crushed snacks in mama’s bag!

SkipHop Zoo Lunchie Insulated Lunch Bag
As your little one grows, you’ll need a way to transport more than just puffs and cheerios! Cut fruit, hummus, drinks – this insulated bag keeps it all cool whether on the way to school or a playdate. It passed the test on a recent playground playdate in 90 degree heat with flying colors!

SiliKids
I try to use glass as much as possible, but it’s not always practical when on the move. That’s why I love award-winning silicone brand Silikids! Their products are a fantastic alternative to plastic and they’re really stylish. I like to bring drinks in the Kids To-Go Cup on outings because my daughter can use the sip top lid for no-mess drinking when she’s in her car seat, then pop the lid off for regular drinking outside the car (we don’t use sippy or straw cups). I also love their Silibags – reusable silicone snack bags. They’re a great alternative to plastic bags; I love them for things like turkey/cheese rollups and cut fruit. Bonus – they’re dishwasher safe!

Siliskin Glass Cup for Kids: Whether you’re a Montessori mama like me or just want to foster independence, these glasses are a great option when you’re ready to ditch the sippy cup. Made of glass with a removable, textured silicone sleeve for easy gripping, they’re the perfect size for little hands. My little one has shunned all her other “big girl cups” and will only use these now! (Keep in mind that even though these are a safer option, they should never be used without supervision.)

Dr. Brown’s Snack A Pillar
As a Montessori mom in a Montessori (ish) home, I like to keep snacks accessible, but know my preschooler might just eat an entire box of bunny grahams if given the opportunity. She helps me fill each container with a different snack and put them in a lower cabinet for easy access as needed. Plus, I can also grab them (they screw together) when we’re headed out for snacks on the go.

Dr. Brown’s Tummy Grumbles
I love Dr. Brown’s Tummy Grumbles reusable snack bags, except I don’t use them for snacks – I use them for wipes! Because my daughter is potty trained, I have little need to lug around a huge pack of wipes (and those small travel packs seem so wasteful). I put a few wipes for hands and face in one of the bags and toss it into my purse. I refill as needed and they don’t dry out!

b.box Snack Pack
If your preschooler is anything like mine, there are two things you can count on when it comes to food – pickiness and the love of dipping things! I love the b.box Snack Pack because it has two compartments that seal separately for those days when choosing between cheese bunnies and bunny grahams is not an option. It’s also perfect for things like pretzel chips and hummus for dipping! Bonus: it has a spoon that snaps into the lid for scoopable snacks!

Not going back to school but going back to work and putting your little one in daycare? Check out our must-haves and tips here.

Back to Preschool Fashion & Function

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

Have a kiddo heading back to preschool? Shana, a real Gugu Guru mama of a two-year-old, tells us about her back to preschool style must-haves for where fashion meets function.

The Backpack
Back to Preschool Tula backpack

Tula Kids Backpack
Fashion certainly meets function with the Tula Kids Backpack. As the mom of a back to preschool aged daughter who still rocks some 18-24 month clothes, I was hard pressed to find a backpack that would fit her small frame and not overwhelm her! The Tula Kids Backpack was the perfect trifecta – fashionable, functional (it’s water-resistant), and scaled down for smaller frames. It’s roomy enough that she can grow with it, and it’s high quality enough and durable enough to guarantee that she WILL grow with it!

The Empowerment Pieces
“I want to do it!” “ I do it myself!” Familiar phrases if you have a toddler or preschooler. Having a fiercely independent preschooler, I love anything that empowers her to do things on her own. This is especially true when it comes to clothes and shoes. Since one of my not-so-secret joys is buying her cute clothes, I’m always looking for quality and ease, without sacrificing style.

Back to Preschool clothes

Dapper + Crown
This uber stylish, classic children’s clothing line is designed by a mom and made in Los Angeles. Think wide-leg pants with elastic waistbands, breezy kimono style tops, and pull on skirts that are great in the warmer weather and can be layered for cooler weather. I particularly love the Dylan pants because they’re so easy for my little one to pull on and they look great dressed up or down. I mean, wide leg linen pants with little slanted pockets! Doesn’t get cuter than that.

Me Do
Every girl (and boy) has got to have their basics! Me Do does double duty – not only do they have basic tees and sweats for play, but the clothing features the Me Do Bunnies. Your child will learn the front from the back when they see the Me Do Bunny’s face on the front and the bunny’s tush on the back. Bonus: if your child has sensory issues or is just plain sensitive to tags and such, the clothes are tagless and have soft seams.

Back to Preschool boots

pediped Footwear
You may know pediped for their walkers, but did you know they make big kids shoes too? Flex is the brand’s line of rubber soled sneakers, boots and sandals that are great for little feet and cute to boot (pun intended!) I adore boots and apparently it’s genetic because my daughter loves them too. The Flex Eclipse boots are comfy, stylish and happen to be vegan (if that’s your thing.) Plus, if you’re like me and buy shoes with a bit of room to grow, but don’t want your little one clomping around like Frankenstein (which also leads to trips and falls), you’ll love their Flex Fit System, an additional insert that can reduce the shoe by almost half a size. Budget conscious mamas rejoice!

For Avoiding Mix-ups

Back to Preschool label

Stuck on You
Preparing for the first day of school, I realized that I needed labels! The Basic Mini Iron On Labels from Stuck on You were an easy choice. With a ton of color and font options, I settled on pretty pastels. They were on in seconds and I’ve had no issues with fading or peeling!
