Pregnancy is an exciting, wonderful time in your life, but it can also be a time of frustration and different kind of challenges (goodbye sleeping on your stomach!) Luckily, there are several items out there that can help you have a smooth pregnancy, so you can focus on getting ready for your new baby. Below, we’ve compiled five of the most important pregnancy must haves.
Expectant parents all know that a good prenatal vitamin is essential, but choosing the right one can be tricky. You also may not be aware that you should be taking a prenatal vitamin before you even get pregnant. In fact, experts recommend that women trying to conceive take a prenatal vitamin with at least 400 micrograms of folic acid.
When choosing a prenatal vitamin, look for one that’s easy to swallow. While it may not seem like a big deal now, pregnancy can make it more difficult for women to take pills, so look for something that’s going to have all the vitamins and minerals your body needs to grow a baby in as few, easy to swallow pills as possible. At the end of the day, if the vitamin you’re taking isn’t working for you, try something new.
Comfortable clothes are one of the most important pregnancy must haves out there. The good news is that a wide range of maternity clothes exist that are both comfortable and fashionable. While you’re pregnant, you need to have at least one pair of pregnancy jeans that you love for when you need to leave the house. For home, a good pair of sweatpants can’t be overhyped. You’ll also want to invest in some comfortable shoes that will fit you well and stay comfortable if your feet swell.
3. Belly bands
As your belly grows, you are likely going to have some back pain. The added weight of your baby combined with the baby dropping lower into the birth canal, from a few weeks to a few hours before labor begins, causes additional pressure which creates aches and pains on your body. A belly band holds up your belly, redistributing the weight and relieving pressure so you can get some rest.
It’s common for expecting mothers to have trouble sleeping as their bodies change to accommodate their baby. When you’re having trouble getting comfortable enough to get a good night’s sleep, a pregnancy pillow can be a godsend. Pregnancy pillows come in several shapes and sizes, from C to U shaped or wedge pillows, but all of them are designed to help you sleep comfortably.
5. Snacks
Everyone knows that during your pregnancy you’re going to have cravings, and snacks around the house to satisfy those cravings are definite pregnancy must haves. You don’t need to go overboard, but feel free to indulge yourself right now. As long as you remain focused on nutrition and staying healthy for your baby, a few snacks can go a long way to a happy pregnancy.
