Every parent needs diapers, a stroller, a crib, and cute onesies. But, you might not be aware of some things that will make your first months with your new baby much easier. Here are some of the most important must haves for new moms.
You might already have a crib for your little boy or girl, but every new mom should also have a bassinet. Why? For the first few months, your baby will be waking you up every 2 to 4 hours to feed. While it doesn’t seem like a big deal to walk from your bedroom to your baby’s nursery, after weeks of sleep deprivation, you’ll be grateful for any little thing that makes life easier. A bassinet or co-sleeper in your bedroom for baby’s early months is a must have for new moms.
Europeans have used sleep sacks for years, but they are relatively new to America, and parents are embracing them wholeheartedly. A sleep sack is basically a sleeping bag for your baby, with arm holes and a zippered bottom for ventilation and easy diaper changes. The sleep sack is a great way to keep your baby warm without blankets which can be kicked off and cover your baby’s face at night.
You might be thinking that bath soap is bath soap, but not all soaps are created equally. The products you use on yourself are too strong for babies and can dry your baby’s skin out unnecessarily. Baby wash that’s specifically made for baby’s soft skin is a must have for new moms who want to keep their little one clean and happy.
Baby’s finger and toenails can grow at an alarming rate, and if not trimmed they can scratch themselves or you. New moms need baby nail clippers or scissors (use whichever works best for you and your little one) to keep those nails trim.
A baby swing might seem like a “nice to have” but not necessary item, but before long you’ll be relieved to have one. A baby swing is the perfect place to keep baby safe and happy while you can’t hold them.
Changing tables come with removable, washable covers because changing diapers doesn’t always go as smoothly as you wish. While you’ll want multiple covers for use while one is being cleaned, changing the cover after every diaper change just isn’t practical. New moms need every time and energy saver they can get, and changing pads are a lifesaver. Changing pads are waterproof and easy to clean, making diaper changes a bit less messy.
Whether you choose to nurse, bottle feed, or a mix of both, a nursing pillow is a must have for new moms. Particularly for a new mom, figuring out how to hold your little one in a position that’s comfortable for them and for you can be a challenge. A nursing pillow wraps around your waist and provides support for the baby, so you can feed them with ease.
