Twins are twice the joy and double the stress of one baby, and planning for them can be tricky. When expecting twins, you don’t just need two of everything you would get for one baby. While that might work for diapers and baby food, there are some things you need to get specifically for twins. In this article, we’ll go through five things you need when getting your twin baby stuff.
You need a travel system with a frame stroller, especially when you have twins. Moving one baby from a car seat to a stroller and vice versa is difficult enough, you don’t want to try it with two. A frame stroller allows you to keep your babies in their car seats and simply move the car seats to the stroller. For twins, you could get two strollers, but unless you’re always going with another adult and neither of you need your hands free, you’ll want to go easy on yourself and get a double frame stroller.
While a double stroller is great for going on walks, sometimes you need a way to carry your twins while keeping your hands free. Enter the twin baby carrier, a must have for your collection of twin baby stuff. Twin baby carriers come in three basic types: structured, wrap, and ring sling.
A structured carrier will give you more support while carrying both babies. However, because newborn twin babies are often smaller than single newborns, a structured carrier might be a little too big to use right away. If you are concerned about that, you can get a wrap or ring sling carrier. These twin baby carriers are also great for cuddling and carrying newborns and small babies. They can be a little tricky to get used to, especially with two babies, but you can adjust them to carry your twins in multiple ways, making them more versatile.
Whether you plan on nursing all the time, sometimes, or never, a twin nursing pillow is still a great thing to have. One baby is a handful, and twins can be impossible. A twin nursing pillow will be incredibly helpful while nursing (hence the name), and can also be a great help when bottle feeding two babies at the same time. It’s also the perfect spot to let your babies lie down and give yourself a little break.
This is one example where two is essential for twins. Like the twin nursing pillow, having a baby lounger for each of your babies is a necessity for keeping your sanity when you want to let them relax and be hands free. Unlike the pillow, loungers sit at an incline, which is great for babies that spit up.
You don’t have to get a diaper bag designed for twins, but you’ll definitely want to make sure that you get a diaper bag that can handle double the diapers, wipes, bottles, and blankets. That said, there are a number of bags out there specifically made with twins in mind, and it’s worth looking into if one of those is right for you. Whatever you do, look for something durable that’s easy to wipe clean and water-resistant. Keep in mind that you’ll be carrying your diaper bag everywhere, so something simple yet stylish is preferable.
