Breastfeeding and Pumping: The All-In-One, Award-Winning System

by Abby Ludwig Leave a Comment

Transitioning baby from breast to bottle can be exhausting and disheartening at times, so we were seriously pumped to learn about nanobébé’s award-winning breastfeeding and pumping system. This all-in-one feeding solution, named ‘Smartest Baby Bottle Ever Made’ by Business Insider and the ‘Best Bottle for Breastfed Babies’ by the Bump, has a plethora of mama and baby-focused benefits—and we can’t wait to share them with you.

nanobebeFirstly, the thoughtful design assures babe that their beloved food source didn’t go anywhere. Shaped like a smooth breast, the nanobébé bottle can help with the difficult transition—for both of you!

Another amazing benefit is its extensive capabilities. As a new parent, we already have 18 million things either on us, around us, or surrounding our sink—if we can eliminate something, let’s. This breastfeeding and pumping phenomenon can be used to pump, store, warm AND feed your babe. A breast pump adaptor is included, and a little storage bonus: the bottles are stackable.

nanobebeAnd now, for the info that many of us do not know about: When you warm breastmilk without proper temperature tracking, you can unknowingly remove some of the essential nutrients. This breastfeeding and pumping solution warms the milk up to two times faster than standard bottles—at safe temperatures—to retain the nutrients. It is the first and only bottle designed to protect the nutrients in breastmilk. The perfect addition to compliment your breastfeeding journey.

nanobebeWhen you’re trying to calm your babe in the middle of the night, it’s soothing to know that you can heat the milk quickly without worrying about warming it unevenly or overheating (and having to wait for it to cool down). And then during your milk sesh, when your adoring eyes watch your babe in ecstasy, you can smile knowing that the nutrients you’re working hard to produce are being delivered to their growing bodies.

Recognized by TIME, CNN and DailyMail UK, the nanobébé bottle truly is “feeding reinvented.” We love it and think you will too.

Have you tried it? If so, please share your experience in the comments below! We’d love to hear about it.

Thank you to nanobébé for making this sponsored post possible!

What’s New on Gugu: Chicago Baby Show Edition

by Abby Ludwig Leave a Comment

We were off to the Chicago Baby Show this week to see what’s new in the baby world! The Gugu Guru team loved learning all about the latest and greatest items for babies and toddlers. Below is our wrap up of some of our favorite new finds. Some of these are brand new to the market and some may be familiar faces. We LOVE hearing about new products, so please never hesitate to send our way!

For a number of our other favorites, please check out our Explore page!

CoralUV

CoralUV Sanitizer and Dryer: We have been so excited about the launch of the CoralUV since we met one of the Co-founders last year at the Chicago Baby Show! You will fall in love with this machine while sanitizing and drying bottles, pacifiers, and teethers but it won’t end there! Continue to fall in love over and over again as you sanitize small toys, sippy cups, remotes, and anything else that comes in contact with your little ones. It’s also great for Mom’s makeup brushes! Now that they have formally launched, we know this will be a favorite appliance of parents for years to come!

Evenflo Pivot Xplore

Evenflo Pivot Xplore All-Terrain Stroller Wagon: We mentioned this new stroller wagon by Evenflo earlier this year when it was announced. It has now launched and is gaining fame by the minute! This is the perfect solution to older toddlers and young children who no longer want to ride in the stroller. Each seat will hold up to 55 lbs and there are both car seat adapters and toddler seats available. We also love the fact that this can have either a wagon ‘pull’ or a stroller ‘push.’

Larktale Stroller

Larktale Strollers – chit chat and coast: Launching earlier this year, Larktale brings two new strollers to the US market! The chit chat is a great lightweight option, perfect for travel or that everyday on-the-go family. The frame is also made from recyclable fiber-infused nylon, which is both eco-friendly and incredibly strong. The coast is Larktale’s all-terrain stroller, which is newborn compatible and has great all-wheel suspension. It even folds up small enough to fit in any trunk. Great compact, well made strollers!

m1 Carrier by Lascal

M1 Carrier by Lascal: A new fantastic find by one of our favorite companies, Regal Lager. The M1 Carrier is truly an adaptable carrier that has been designed with both baby and parent in mind. Made of completely breathable fabric, you will also be able to use this with one hand. No more struggling to get your little one in/out of the carrier alone! Newborn compatible (without an insert!), the seat will also change based on your little one’s needs. Plus it will provide ample lumbar support for anyone carrying baby!

Olababy

Olábaby Transitional Sippy Lid: Olábaby bottles remain some of our top recommendations, especially for parents who want eco-friendly without the weight of glass. When we stopped by their booth at the Chicago Baby Show, they had lots of fun things to show us. We were most excited about their Transitional Sippy Lid, which will attach to your current Olábaby bottles and help ease your babe’s transition. No more struggling with new spoutless cups or straw cups for months. This is a great, budget-friendly investment!

Lalo

Lalo: The brains behind both ‘The Daily’ (stroller) and ‘The Chair’ were showcasing all of their products’ features this year. We loved taking a stroll with the Daily and seeing how much we could really stuff in that large (adjustable) basket. We also were so intrigued at how easy ‘The Chair’ is to clean. Plus we love that it adjusts to a toddler size chair. We can’t wait to see what else comes out of the Lalo team this next year! Lalo has also partnered with BabyQuest to assist couples and individuals with the cost of fertility treatments. Apply for the grant by Sept 5 by clicking here.

bets & emy

bets & emy Baby Wipes: These wipes will change your baby’s life if s/he suffers from sensitive skin! Made of 99.9% water and 0.1% citrus extract, these wipes will keep your little one free of painful diaper rash. However, different than other natural wipes on the market, these are textured and large, meaning you can actually use less wipes to clean up all of lifes ‘big’ messes! They are even soft enough to use on your face AND (fun fact from the owner) they will take off makeup!

Nuna Exec

Nuna Exec: Although this seat isn’t expected to launch in October, we loved seeing it this past weekend! Exclusive to Nordstrom, this seat will truly be the only seat you’ll ever need. Starting as a rear facing infant-compatible car seat, it features a built in anti-rebound bar, infant insert, and easy to install capabilities. When you’re ready to forward face, simply turn the seat around for your little one. As your kiddo gets older, this will even turn into a seat belt booster, with easy-to-store panels for the harness.

Please note that these opinions are 100% my own and I have not received any products in exchange for placement in What’s New on Gugu!

Britax Grow with You Clicktight and Grow with you Clicktight Plus: The two new Harness-2-Booster options from Britax are great for back to school and carpool! We love Britax’s Clicktight installation, which gets you a perfectly tight fit in a matter of seconds. These seats will keep your forward facing kiddo in a harness until 65 pounds, and safely in a booster up to 120 pounds. Clicktight Plus also features naturally flame-retardant fabrics that you can easily wash and dry!

The slight compression waist stays up on your growing tummy while the dual wrap top easily opens for nursing and/or pumping. Plus, the magnetic closure will keep one side closed, even if you need to open the other!

Rose and Rex Calm Mind Kit: Looking to introduce mindfulness and meditation to your little one in a developmentally appropriate way? Look no further! Created by childhood development and wellness experts, these will help you get through the dog days of summer! Each set contains three toys as well as a set of calm mind activity cards. Created to look just like your pre-baby wardrobe, every Mom and Mom-to-be will find something high-quality and super comfortable! Once baby arrives, these items will continue to be some of your favorite go-to pieces!

J. Crew x HATCH Collection: Another fun collaboration has recently launched! J. Crew’s entrance into the maternity world is paired brilliantly with HATCH, creating many new (and adorable!) pieces for the working mom. Comfortable for the growing belly, these pieces will help you feel confident in the work place throughout all three trimesters and beyond!

This week I have found some great products for mom! Some items will help with pregnancy while others will help with the fourth trimester and beyond! We can’t take care of our babes without taking care of ourselves (easier said than done!). I also found some items for said babes – a new high chair that is taking on the style game and a great new eco-friendly toy company!

For a number of our other favorites, please check out our Explore page!

Frida Mom

Frida Mom: The newest line of products from our friends at Fridababy and all for mom! These products were created to help with recovery after birth and throughout the fourth trimester. Known for their honest approach to baby products, the Frida Mom line helps immensely with one of life’s messiest times. Available for purchase as individual items or as a set!

Lalo The Chair

The Chair by Lalo: ‘The Chair’ as they call it, is lightweight, easy to clean, and beautiful! We love the high quality materials they used to create ‘The Chair,’ and that it converts to a toddler seat! Plus, this chair won’t feel like an eyesore when you leave it out in your kitchen. Lalo has also partnered with BabyQuest to assist couples and individuals with the cost of fertility treatments. Apply for the grant by Sept 5 by clicking here.

Storq New Mama Care Set

Storq New Mama Care Kit: Three all-natural products meant to help you through pregnancy, fourth trimester, and motherhood! This set helps ease the stigma associated with postnatal life (think cracked nipples and sore vaginas!). They are easy to use and feel luxurious on your new mom bod! Pair with the set by Frida Mom and you will be good to go!

Reebok Maternity

Reebok Maternity Collection: Trying to find for comfortable active wear that will fit your growing belly? Look no further! Reebok recently launched a line of maternity active wear that will be a perfect addition to your wardrobe. Great for running errands or heading to yoga, these neutral and classic pieces all come in both black and navy.

Montessori Toys Subscription Service: Monti Kids

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

If you’re not familiar with the ideals of Montessori learning, here’s a little intro into the popular method of teaching. A definition from Wikipedia: It is a child-centered educational approach based on scientific observations of children. Its system focuses on natural interests and activities instead of formal teaching methods.

Monti Kids

The lessons are typically hands-on. Exploring and learning through discovery, instead of listening and memorizing words from teachers, is a big differentiating factor from traditional schooling. If you take this concept and box it up into a Montessori toys subscription service, you have Monti Kids! And with Monti Kids, learning can start at home from as early as birth, many years prior to the typical entry for preschool.

Monti Kids

So, how does it work? Monti Kids is an at-home Montessori toys subscription service for birth to age 3. Every three months, you receive a box of authentic Montessori toys tailored to your child’s age and developmental stage. It also includes videos showing how to use the toys and support your child’s growth.

Monti Kids

You also gain access to one-on-one support, online classes and an incredible community including Montessori experts. Founded by Zahra Kassam, internationally certified as a Montessori teacher (with two degrees, in psychology and education, from Harvard and 10+ years of teaching/school administration experience), this program combines the expertise of world-renowned teachers and lets you bring it to life in the comfort of your own home.

As the founder of Monti Kids, Zahra has been nominated for the Dalai Lama Unsung Heroes of Compassion Awards, and recognized by the White House, LEGO, Goldman Sachs and Harvard. That’s because this program is beyond brilliant, and we’re huge fans.

Monti Kids

What are some other parents saying about it?

“I would recommend Monti Kids program to all new parents…the advice I have received from Monti Kids has been invaluable.” – Judy

“We love the simplicity and beauty of the Monti Kids toys and we’re absolutely fascinated by watching our now 5-month-old grow with them.” – Vyana

“I’ve become really interested in Montessori, but felt a bit overwhelmed with how to ‘do it right.’ I finally found a really cool subscription service that sends you developmentally appropriate toys every three months!…it’s amazing. I love it!” – Andrea

Real Mom Reviews: Kova Bouncer

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

Are you searching for a baby bouncer with a small footprint? If so, the Born Free Kova Bouncer is just what you are looking for. The Kova provides a great space for baby to lounge and play. The double-duty design allows parents to switch between the rocker and bouncer functions with ease. The Kova folds flat, uses little space, and is ideal for traveling. Our Gugu Guru Real Mom, Taylor, tested the new Kova Bouncer and provided us with her honest review.

Kova Bouncer

Pros:

  • There is no assembly required.
  • The design is compact and thin.
  • The bouncer folds and can fit anywhere.
  • The design is chic and modern.
  • Sturdy and well made
  • Plush comfortable seating for baby
  • The Kova bouncer offers two-features (bouncer and rocker). It is easy to switch back and forth between the two.

Kova Bouncer

Cons:

  • You can’t adjust the height of the seat, so baby might lie at a little flatter angle than desired.
  • The bounce is limited bounce with baby’s movements. A parent needs to sit and bounce a young baby.

Kova Bouncer

As soon as we opened the box, I was excited to try out the Kova Bouncer. A major benefit is that the bouncer comes already assembled complete with a carrying case. All you have to do is snap in the toy bar and you are ready to go! It folds to be very compact and thin, which is great for small spaces, easy storage and would be great for traveling. With all of the bulky baby gear that is on the market, it is nice to have a bouncer that can easily fit anywhere.

This bouncer has very plush and comfortable seating. So comfortable that baby fell asleep almost immediately! We love the modern and chic design and the leather accent it features. A major benefit is that this product is both a rocker and bouncer. You can quickly switch between the two by popping out the legs and it is very smooth when in use. It does not have any music or vibrations like some of the other bouncers on the market, however, the toys are a nice black and white so our little one is easily stimulated, and entertained. Overall, I would highly recommend the Kova Bouncer. The stylish design, comfortability, and ease of assembly and storage make calming baby a breeze.

Kova Bouncer

If you are interested in purchasing the Kova Bouncer for yourself or reading the reviews from Amazon customers, click here. A special thank you to Taylor for reviewing the Kova bouncer for Gugu Guru. While she received the Kova Bouncer, her thoughts and opinions are her 100% own.

The Village Reviews: Joeyband

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

The Joeyband is a revolutionary postpartum positioning band that helps secure a newborn to a parent’s chest. The Joeyband can be used to help prevent falls and keep baby close during skin-to-skin contact. Skin-to-skin contact is vital after birth and has been shown to improve overall infant development, breastfeeding, temperature regulation, and bonding. Our Village testers were able to try the Joeyband and provide us with their thoughts on this innovative band.

Joeyband

This Joeyband is great to bring along to the hospital for immediate skin-to-skin postpartum. It is easy to put on and really helps you feel more secure in holding your baby – especially when you’re fatigued after a long labor and/or still feeling the effects of anesthesia. We tried the Joeyband with our newborn and were impressed with how quickly it calmed him down! We even caught a few smiles in a row while our son was dozing. It was a good reminder to keep up the skin-to-skin time. The fabric feels a little bit like swimsuit material and is really stretchy, so both my husband and I could use the same size. My husband loved the Joeyband even more than I did – I think it helps him feel that special bond that a lot of mothers feel through the nursing relationship. I anticipate my husband will be using this product a lot before parental leave is over. I was happy to learn that there are even more uses for Joeyband as our little guy grows up. We have a plane trip next month and I’m going to use it to help keep our son more secure and calm as a lap child. Thanks to Gugu Guru for giving me the opportunity to test the Joeyband.

-Alyssa J.

Joeyband

The importance of skin to skin for newborns after they are born has long been established. But the benefits extend beyond just the hospital stay – it’s actually recommended for the first 3-4 months, or until the baby becomes to squirmy. And babies aren’t the only ones who benefit from skin to skin.

Skin to skin is often delayed after a c-section, due to the risk of infant falls. The Joeyband allows for immediate skin to skin for mom and baby because it reduces that risk. It keeps the baby safe and secure against mom’s chest so that this important bonding can start immediately. This way both mom and baby can reap the benefits of skin to skin during the repair and transport process.

The Joeyband can also be used for kangaroo care in the NICU, where skin to skin is critical for preemie babies. Sometimes it’s all a mom can do if the baby is too small or unable to breastfeed. It can also be used by dads! Since NICU babies are often hooked up to tubes and wires, the Joeyband helps prevent these from being disturbed. It’s appropriate for twins and micro-preemies, too. And in the event of an emergency, the babies can quickly be assessed because there are no hooks or buttons, just a few rows of Velcro.

I was fortunate to have a full-term baby with no complications but still found the Joeyband to be useful both in the hospital and even now that we are at home. It allowed me to maximize my skin to skin time in the hospital and aided in breastfeeding because it supported my baby without the need for a bulky pillow. This took some of the strain off my back and neck. When I wasn’t using it to hold my daughter, I used it as a belly band to support my newly postpartum belly.

The Joeyband is soft and comfortable to wear. I was able to put it on and take it off unassisted because it secures easily with Velcro. Once its in place, you hardly notice that it’s there. I definitely recommend the Joeyband for all new parents.

-Misty H.

Joeyband

The Joeyband has been such an essential part of my daily routine. I love using this when I need to have a free hand to work on something while sitting. It is so comfortable and easy to put on and remove.  The gentle squeeze it gives to baby while I’m wearing her gives her security while being skin to skin. Our bond has grown stronger while having the opportunity to stay so close more often through the day!

-Valerie T.

Joeyband

I enjoyed testing the Joeyband product, and as a mom who had a c-section, I can see the great benefit it provides.

My son has reflux so in addition to taking Zantac he also prefers to sleep upright on someone’s chest. The Joeyband helped me to be somewhat hands-free on the couch and allowed us to enjoy the baby snuggles. Overall a good product for what it was designed for!

-Katherine H.

Joeyband

I have been using the Joeyband for about two weeks. It was very easy to use and made skin-to-skin time with my little one much more enjoyable. It gave me the freedom to use my hands, especially during my meal times, which a lot of new moms know can be a challenge  🙂 The band is thick and stretchy and my little one enjoyed the swaddle-like feeling the band gave him as he would quickly fall asleep. I liked that I didn’t have to worry about him rolling or sliding off of me. The Joeyband is a great product and I would recommend it to any new mom!

-Taylor S.

Newborn Must Haves for Active Families

by Abby Ludwig Leave a Comment

Are you getting ready to welcome your little one? We were so thrilled to work with popular fitness influencer, Dasha Anderson (founder of Kettlebell Kickboxing) and her husband Dan as they prepared to welcome their first little lady! Fitness plays a big role in their household and we wanted to highlight that with our picks for this active couple. Below we teamed up with Dasha and Dan to look back on the past few months since welcoming Baby Ariana and highlight some of their favorite newborn essentials for active families.

Cybex Balios Stroller and Cybex Q Car Seat: Dasha has described this easy-to-use travel system as, “Sleek and comfortable! The car seat and stroller have been both hiking with me and strolling through New York City. The baby loves it and we feel stylish and secure in it. The safety features alone make this travel system a no brainer.” This travel system was an excellent choice for Dasha’s lifestyle both in and out of the city! Since Dasha lives just outside of NYC, weather can be a factor. We recommended she pair her stroller and car seat with the 7AM Enfant Poncho (great for the carrier or the stroller!) and Blanket 212 Evolution (also great for the stroller!) to help keep her little lady warm no matter what!

Joeyband

Joeyband by Sleepbelt: We love the Joeyband for new parents and Dasha’s family was no exception. When seated, the Joeyband offers hands-free support to baby, making those early days of skin-to-skin significantly easier. This was such an easy way to promote bonding between Dasha, her husband, and Baby Ari.

Fridababy Baby Basics Kit

Fridababy Baby Basics Kit: This kit is a must for any registry. The Nose Frida is now used in nearly every household with a newborn and the NailFrida makes nail clipping not so scary. The Cradle Cap brush will also help with those early baths. But the real must-have here is the Windi, which will help relieve baby’s gas in dire situations!

Diaper Dekor

Diaper Dekor: We loved this Diaper Pail for Dasha, because aesthetically it doesn’t scream “Dirty Diapers inside!” It does an excellent job keeping odors out of the room and comes in three sizes. It is completely hands-free, won’t dent or rust and can be converted to a regular trash can once you’re done with the diaper stage!

Love to Dream

Love to Dream Swaddle: Our favorite swaddles by Love to Dream allow baby to keep his/her hands up while still giving them that tight, womblike feeling. “Love to Dream Swaddles are the best because like most modern parents we spent some nights traveling to Grandmas or taking baby to our gym. The swaddle created a level of consistency no matter the crib or the setting!” These will help baby sleep well no matter where you are!

Belli Skincare

Belli Skincare Hello Glow Bundle: This bundle, which includes the Healthy Glow Facial Hydrator & Moisturizer and the Eye Brightening Cream is a favorite amongst our new moms. “Skin care is tricky when you have baby – you need the best products with the most natural ingredients. My skin was super dry and I had a hard time keeping up with my skin care routine. Belli made it easy! The consistency was great enough to have on all day and into night with no reapplication for a busy mom.”

4moms Breeze

4moms Breeze Playard: Having recently moved into a house and being a dog mom, Dasha needed somewhere that her little miss could play safely. “It is great to give your baby a safe and secure place in the home to move for tummy time or play time. It [also] really helps new moms actually run to the bathroom! Was anyone else scared to do this in the first few weeks?”

Baby K'tan Active

Baby K’tan Carrier: Since Dasha does so much work from home, we recommended the Baby K’tan carrier to use immediately after arriving home from the hospital. Also, we love the K’tan Active here for obvious reasons! “Baby K’tan was amazing for a working mom trying to get things done! It’s literally the only way I was able to type anything and the main reason I was caught up on my inbox. Plus the baby never felt like I was neglecting her.”

Crane Humidifier

Crane Humidifier: We love the Crane Humidifier for so many reasons! Dasha was due in February in New York, an extremely dry and cold time of year. To keep humidity up during the cold months, Dasha set up the Crane humidifier in the nursery. This is also super helpful when baby has his/her first cold, inevitable in the winter!

Stokke Tripp Trapp

Stokke Tripp Trapp w/ Newborn Seat: While it is an investment, this was Dasha’s top recommended product. “In all honesty, this was the BEST item on my list mainly because of the mileage we’ve put in this elegant chair. The newborn attachment allowed me to eat dinner, drink coffee, and answer email like a regular person – all while still being with my baby.”

Dasha is also the founder of Kettlebell Kickboxing and has created a series of fitness programs that are easy to complete at home with very little (or no!) equipment. Check them out today!

What’s New on Gugu: July 3, 2019

by Abby Ludwig Leave a Comment

I have found a great lineup of products this week. A couple new pieces of technology, which will help with both feeding and sleep are new finds. We also took a look at the newest travel stroller to hit the market. Plus, there are some excellent accessories to help make breastfeeding more efficient.

For a number of our other favorites, please check out our Explore page!

Mammaway Freeze It Flat

Mammaway Freeze It Flat: An innovative way to freeze your breastmilk stash! Using breastmilk storage bags, simply pump your milk, place into the Freeze it Flat, and stick in the freezer. Once frozen, your stored milk will take up significantly less space. Great for working moms who have to pump at the office!

BlueSmart Mia2

BlueSmart Mia2: A new baby gift for your technologically saavy friend. The BlueSmart Mia2 will automatically record what your baby eats (and for how long) at each feeding. Pairing with an app via Bluetooth, you will no longer have to manually keep track of each feeding. Plus, it is compatible with most baby bottles!

Hatch Baby Rest Plus

Hatch Baby Rest Plus: One of our favorite sound machine/nightlights has now received an upgrade. Pair with their app to create a truly essential product for sleep that will grow with your little one. Now an audio monitor as well as a digital clock, this is a must have for any nursery.

Larken X Bra

Larken X Bra: Made of moisture-wicking, ultrasoft fabric, this nursing/pumping bra will be a great addition to your wardrobe. It allows you to pump hands-free without having to undress or change and is comfy enough to keep on all day long. There are also no snaps, zippers, or tags, making it far more comfortable as your size fluctuates.

Bugaboo Ant

Bugaboo Ant Travel Stroller: Bugaboo has entered the carry-on travel stroller game! The Ant is the only reversible seat travel stroller on the market and it offers great suspension. It has a height adjustable handle, a near-flat recline for newborns, and an adjustable seat height for taller kids. Available for pre-order now!

Please note that these opinions are 100% my own and I have not received any products in exchange for placement in What’s New on Gugu!
