Kindness Counts: Amazing Mama Brands with Huge Hearts

by Mel Blume Leave a Comment

A mama’s to-do list scrolls. And scrolls. And scrolls. Sometimes, it’s seemingly impossible to take on one more thing.

We’ve been there, but we know just how amazing it feels when we open up our hearts and give back. To make it as easy as possible for you, we scoped out the mama-brand-scene and found our favorite companies with huge hearts. We’re excited to share philanthropic brands that contribute to our local communities, mamas and more.

If you haven’t heard of KIDBOX yet, its heart and generous hand can be felt across the globe. A subscription-with-styling-service clothing box (think Stitch Fix, but for kids), KIDBOX donates new clothing to the charity of your choice when you keep your box. This cutting-edge company donated over $12.5 million in new clothing to date, and seems to want to do more. Their passionate community is ever-growing, and their pioneering, change-making strategy is one that deserves the spotlight.

Plus, just when you think it can’t get any better, you shop the site! KIDBOX partners with major global brands you’d want to shop anyway: Adidas, Splendid, 7 for all Mankind, Disney, Sketchers and many more. Doing good is rarely this much fun.

Abby & Finn

While you’re clicking and tapping away, you might want to check out these other brands too: Abby & Finn is an affordable, eco-friendly diaper-and-wipe subscription service. As seen in PopSugar and Red Tricycle, Abby & Finn donates 30 diapers to families in need for each monthly box purchased.

Momkindness

For an ultra-stylish and versatile diaper bag that donates to an amazing cause, visit Momkindness. For each bag purchased, Momkindness donates a portion of the proceeds to Every Mother Counts, an organization that helps “bring safe and respectful maternity care to mothers everywhere.”

Mommy Matters

Another company to note: Mommy Matters. Their innovative, portable pillow features a hot/cold insert to heal aches and pains. Named one of the top 10 pregnancy pillows in 2019 by Verywell Family, Mommy Matters donates proceeds to Saving Mothers, “a global non-profit working to reduce maternal mortality and help mothers thrive around the world.”

JL Childress

Lastly, if you’re in search of a chic, office-friendly breast pump bag, check out JL Childress. For every Jay Elle Pump Bag sold, $1 is donated to a non-profit organization to support breastfeeding.

As you can see, there are plenty of ways to give back during this beautiful time (when you also have no time). Wishing you fun and fulfilling shopping moments, Mama.

Jasmine Johnson, @mrsmommymd suggests:

  • Breast milk freezer storage system: For making freezer to bottle transitions easier, and helps keep your freezer organized (and your life more organized!).
  • Simple Wishes Hands Free Pumping Bra: So you can pump anytime and anyplace, including on your commute!
  • Foscam Security Camera: So you can stalk – we mean, watch – your baby all day long from wherever you are.

working mom life

Julie S, @fabworkingmomjulie recommends:

  • Medela Breast Pump: The Medela pump that my insurance provided was very important to help me continue breastfeeding as long as possible.
  • Nanny: We also had a nanny, which made things easier so we didn’t have to leave the house with the baby and rush to leave for daycare in the morning.
  • Grocery delivery: I use Shipt, and it has been absolutely life-changing! Grocery shopping with a small child is painful.
  • Baby Bouncer: A bouncer was also vital when my little one was growing and had so much energy. It really helped to release all that energy without running around the house and getting into everything.

sweet phi working mom

Philia Kelnhofer, @philiakelnhofer suggets:

  • Diaper Backpack: Make sure your diaper bag backpack has a slot for a laptop like this one!
  • Instacart: I love that I’m able to order groceries when I don’t have time to go to the store.
  • Evernote: I love that I can take notes and access them on my phone, computer, etc. I make shopping lists, reminders, to-dos, party menus, etc.
  • Nest Camera: I love our Nest Camera, being able to see my son when I’m not home every once in a while is a real treat when I’m at work!

lawyer mom

Candace, @themomatlaw recommends:

  • Formula Pro Baby Brezza: this was incredibly helpful after the birth of our twins. It made such a difference with overnight feedings and eliminated that hassle of having to make or heat bottles throughout the night. We didn’t have one with our first child, but if I could go back in time, I would have totally used one then, too!
  • Instacart: this was a life saving during my twin pregnancy when it was too difficult to leave the house for grocery shopping with my oldest son, and then again during the early months with twins plus one.
  • Owlet Baby Monitor: the Owlet Baby Monitor was another great tool to have that allowed us to keep an eye on the kids while they slept while also feeling comfortable to work on other tasks in the house.
  • Housekeeping: We hired a housekeeper after the arrival of our twins.  We didn’t use a big company–we hired based on word of mouth and recommendations from friends-but it has made such a HUGE difference ever since.

Alyssa Loring

Alyssa Loring, @alyssaloring recommends:

  • Wubbanub: her security object,
  • Safety 1st crib mattress: for really good naps at grandma’s house
  • back up boxes of diapers and wipes
  • Take and Toss cups: having extra always makes life easier!
  • White noise machine: a must-have for naptime
  • Nursing Cover: a nursing cover that transitions to a grocery cart cover or extra blanket layer in the stroller

foreverfreckled

Carrie, @foreverfreckledblog suggests:

  • The Baby Shusher: This was a miracle product that I used 24/7 for the first 6 months. Instantaneously calmed my son down and helped him fall asleep with the rhythmic “shhhhh” sound. The “shhhh” sound emulates the noises they hear in the womb which is why it is so calming to them. Had one at home, in the car, and in my stroller!
  • Water Wipes: Hands down best wipes on the planet. They are safe for your baby. Purest wipe you can get. I haven’t had diaper rash once!
  • Dr Browns Options Bottles: My Leo had extremely COLIC. always gassy and uncomfortable. The bottles were a lifesaver and the only bottle he would take
  • Hatch Sound Machine: I love this sound machine. Has a ton of different sounds and colors. You can control it from an app on your phone. This was so convenient when Leo was already asleep and I forgot to turn his sounds machine on. I could turn it on with my phone and never had to go into his room. With a 3-year old making a lot of noise throughout the day and before bed, it creates that sound barrier you need to keep the baby sleeping. the life styledCatherine, @thelifestyled recommends:
  • Willow Pump – I always hated being tethered to the wall with my first pump, and am I SO EXCITED to try this new mobile pump that came out since I was last in this phase of motherhood. I think it’ll be a game-changer to be able to pump anywhere.
  • The Snoo – Another one that came out since my last baby. Cannot wait to hopefully get some extra rest with this so I don’t feel so tired when it’s time to come back to work. Love that they do rentals now too.
  • Solly wrap – Can’t wait to strap my little one to me while I’m running errands even just getting some e-mails done.
  • Gathre mats – Love these for changing on the go, or the larger ones for lounging/playing with the little ones
  • Askr + Embla baby loungers – These Sleepods are so luxurious, organic, and perfect for setting the baby down safely when you need a minute hands free.
  • Our Gugu Guru team enjoys GoPuff for last-minute needs. GoPuff delivers everything from apples to ice cream making a parent’s life a lot easier.

Real Working Moms’ Must-Have Items for Kids and Toddlers

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

It can be overwhelming to decide which items to add to your working mom’s baby registry, so we reached out to real working mom’s to find out which items they couldn’t live without for making life easier with kids and toddlers. Read on to learn more about these influencer moms and their must-have kiddo products for busy working moms. Don’t forget to check out the Working Mother Registry with Working Mother and KIDBOX, too!

working mom

Solange Lopes, @thecorporatesister recommends:

  • Amazon Prime (especially Amazon Family): Amazon was, and still is, my go-to to order everything from groceries to books without having to take the kids out on stressful shopping trips!
  • Crockpot: I know this may sound counter-intuitive. However, the ability to set up a meal before leaving for work and come back to prepared food is absolutely amazing!
  • Tote that doubles as a diaper bag: What no one tells you is that carrying too many bags plus baby is borderline impossible. Instead, I found tote bags that could serve as diaper bags too, like this Allyn tote.
  • HelloFresh: This is a great meal delivery service for those days when you just need it all together to cook a quick meal.

Dr. Rupa Wong, @drrupawong suggests:

  • I love the OmieBox Bento Lunchbox, we have it in blue, green and pink for each of my kids.
  • I found this calendar on etsy and we have a family meeting every night (or try to ) to review the children’s activities for the next day.  We got it custom made to have all 5 of us on there (me, my husband and each of our 3 kids).
  •  I think the food box delivery services are great.  We only have a local one here in Hawaii, but you could use any national one to sub in.  Very helpful for new parents who are overwhelmed with caring for a newborn.

Danielle Rudy Davis

Danielle Rudy Davis, @louwhatwear recommends:

  • Lunch Box Inserts: Love these lunch box inserts that make getting out the door with a healthy lunch so much easier. The little containers have it all spaced out so you just add fruits, snacks, veggies and a sandwich or leftovers in and you’re out the door. No messing with a ton of little containers and all their lids!
  • Google Home: This little guy does everything. Helps with homework when I get stumped, plays all our favorite songs for dance parties, knows the answer random trivia questions, provides background sound effects for bedtime stories and sets timers for time out. Plus I keep a running to-do list and can easily ask google to add things to the list before I forget or a kid distracts me!
  • Welly First Aid Kits: This is a new one but has been a lifesaver for our pool bag and I’m now going to add one to my car. It’s full of everything you need and nothing you don’t. Bandages, ointment, hand sanitizer and hydrocortisone. It comes in a really cute tin that you can easily stash in any bag. You’re ready to patch up a boo boo no matter where you are.

Aaronica Cole

Aaronica Cole, @aaronicacole suggests:

Ergobaby Carrier for toddlers: My Ergobaby carrier is THE best. I’m a firm believer in babywearing and people generally stop when you hit toddlerhood. But the Ergobaby is safe to use up to 45lbs and you can wear it multiple ways. Now that my son is a toddler, I wear him like a backpack when he’s feeling fussy and I still have things to get done. It quiets him and leaves me hands-free.

Kindle Fire: The Kindle Fire is the best. You can put safeguards so they aren’t all over the internet and in unsafe places. I load ours with educational apps so I don’t feel bad when I have to put them in front of a screen to get some things done.

Lindsay Mauch, @lindsaymauch recommends:

  • My favorite products are the Melissa and Doug reusable sticker pads and other craft packs I can use to keep my kiddos entertained if I have to take an unexpected phone call for work during a day when I’m home with them. They work great!
  • As a working mom, delivery services like Instacart and Amazon Prime Now have been lifesavers for me. If I am getting ready to leave for the day and I see we’re out of milk and other food items, I order groceries through one of these services. It comes to my home within two hours and saves me time and stress and gives me peace of mind.

This week I have found some fun new products for both mom and baby! For mom, I am highlighting three new maternity/nursing apparel options. Two of these are great options for working moms and one is great for active families! I also have a new combination car seat (harness to booster) that will be great for school carpools! Also, an excellent set by one of our favorite eco-friendly toy companies.

For a number of our other favorites, please check out our Explore page!

Britax Grow with You Clicktight and Grow with you Clicktight Plus: The two new Harness-2-Booster options from Britax are great for back to school and carpool! We love Britax’s Clicktight installation, which gets you a perfectly tight fit in a matter of seconds. These seats will keep your forward facing kiddo in a harness until 65 pounds, and safely in a booster up to 120 pounds. Clicktight Plus also features naturally flame-retardant fabrics that you can easily wash and dry!

The Dress by leSolstice: This pregnancy and nursing friendly dress is the new ‘must have’ in any mama’s wardrobe! The slight compression waist stays up on your growing tummy while the dual wrap top easily opens for nursing and/or pumping. Plus, the magnetic closure will keep one side closed, even if you need to open the other!

Rose and Rex Calm Mind Kit: Looking to introduce mindfulness and meditation to your little one in a developmentally appropriate way? Look no further! Created by childhood development and wellness experts, these will help you get through the dog days of summer! Each set contains three toys as well as a set of calm mind activity cards. Plus, every purchase gives back toys to children in need!

Cadenshae Activewear: A full line of maternity (and nursing-friendly) activewear for pregnancy and beyond! Created to look just like your pre-baby wardrobe, every Mom and Mom-to-be will find something high-quality and super comfortable! Newborn Must Haves for Active Families

by Abby Ludwig Leave a Comment

Are you getting ready to welcome your little one? We were so thrilled to work with popular fitness influencer, Dasha Anderson (founder of Kettlebell Kickboxing) and her husband Dan as they prepared to welcome their first little lady! Fitness plays a big role in their household and we wanted to highlight that with our picks for this active couple. Below we teamed up with Dasha and Dan to look back on the past few months since welcoming Baby Ariana and highlight some of their favorite newborn essentials for active families.

Cybex Balios Stroller and Cybex Q Car Seat: Dasha has described this easy-to-use travel system as, “Sleek and comfortable! The car seat and stroller have been both hiking with me and strolling through New York City. The baby loves it and we feel stylish and secure in it. The safety features alone make this travel system a no brainer.” This travel system was an excellent choice for Dasha’s lifestyle both in and out of the city! Since Dasha lives just outside of NYC, weather can be a factor. We recommended she pair her stroller and car seat with the 7AM Enfant Poncho (great for the carrier or the stroller!) and Blanket 212 Evolution (also great for the stroller!) to help keep her little lady warm no matter what!

Joeyband

Joeyband by Sleepbelt: We love the Joeyband for new parents and Dasha’s family was no exception. When seated, the Joeyband offers hands-free support to baby, making those early days of skin-to-skin significantly easier. This was such an easy way to promote bonding between Dasha, her husband, and Baby Ari.

Fridababy Baby Basics Kit

Fridababy Baby Basics Kit: This kit is a must for any registry. The Nose Frida is now used in nearly every household with a newborn and the NailFrida makes nail clipping not so scary. The Cradle Cap brush will also help with those early baths. But the real must-have here is the Windi, which will help relieve baby’s gas in dire situations!

Diaper Dekor

Diaper Dekor: We loved this Diaper Pail for Dasha, because aesthetically it doesn’t scream “Dirty Diapers inside!” It does an excellent job keeping odors out of the room and comes in three sizes. It is completely hands-free, won’t dent or rust and can be converted to a regular trash can once you’re done with the diaper stage!

Love to Dream

Love to Dream Swaddle: Our favorite swaddles by Love to Dream allow baby to keep his/her hands up while still giving them that tight, womblike feeling. “Love to Dream Swaddles are the best because like most modern parents we spent some nights traveling to Grandmas or taking baby to our gym. The swaddle created a level of consistency no matter the crib or the setting!” These will help baby sleep well no matter where you are!

Belli Skincare

Belli Skincare Hello Glow Bundle: This bundle, which includes the Healthy Glow Facial Hydrator & Moisturizer and the Eye Brightening Cream is a favorite amongst our new moms. “Skin care is tricky when you have baby – you need the best products with the most natural ingredients. My skin was super dry and I had a hard time keeping up with my skin care routine. Belli made it easy! The consistency was great enough to have on all day and into night with no reapplication for a busy mom.”

4moms Breeze

4moms Breeze Playard: Having recently moved into a house and being a dog mom, Dasha needed somewhere that her little miss could play safely. “It is great to give your baby a safe and secure place in the home to move for tummy time or play time. It [also] really helps new moms actually run to the bathroom! Was anyone else scared to do this in the first few weeks?”

Baby K'tan Active

Baby K’tan Carrier: Since Dasha does so much work from home, we recommended the Baby K’tan carrier to use immediately after arriving home from the hospital. Also, we love the K’tan Active here for obvious reasons! “Baby K’tan was amazing for a working mom trying to get things done! It’s literally the only way I was able to type anything and the main reason I was caught up on my inbox. Plus the baby never felt like I was neglecting her.”

Crane Humidifier

Crane Humidifier: We love the Crane Humidifier for so many reasons! Dasha was due in February in New York, an extremely dry and cold time of year. To keep humidity up during the cold months, Dasha set up the Crane humidifier in the nursery. This is also super helpful when baby has his/her first cold, inevitable in the winter!

Stokke Tripp Trapp

Stokke Tripp Trapp w/ Newborn Seat: While it is an investment, this was Dasha’s top recommended product. “In all honesty, this was the BEST item on my list mainly because of the mileage we’ve put in this elegant chair. The newborn attachment allowed me to eat dinner, drink coffee, and answer email like a regular person – all while still being with my baby.”

Dasha is also the founder of Kettlebell Kickboxing and has created a series of fitness programs that are easy to complete at home with very little (or no!) equipment. Check them out today!

What’s New on Gugu: July 3, 2019

by Abby Ludwig Leave a Comment

I have found a great lineup of products this week. A couple new pieces of technology, which will help with both feeding and sleep are new finds. We also took a look at the newest travel stroller to hit the market. Plus, there are some excellent accessories to help make breastfeeding more efficient.

For a number of our other favorites, please check out our Explore page!

Mammaway Freeze It Flat

Mammaway Freeze It Flat: An innovative way to freeze your breastmilk stash! Using breastmilk storage bags, simply pump your milk, place into the Freeze it Flat, and stick in the freezer. Once frozen, your stored milk will take up significantly less space. Great for working moms who have to pump at the office!

BlueSmart Mia2

BlueSmart Mia2: A new baby gift for your technologically saavy friend. The BlueSmart Mia2 will automatically record what your baby eats (and for how long) at each feeding. Pairing with an app via Bluetooth, you will no longer have to manually keep track of each feeding. Plus, it is compatible with most baby bottles!

Hatch Baby Rest Plus

Hatch Baby Rest Plus: One of our favorite sound machine/nightlights has now received an upgrade. Pair with their app to create a truly essential product for sleep that will grow with your little one. Now an audio monitor as well as a digital clock, this is a must have for any nursery.

Larken X Bra

Larken X Bra: Made of moisture-wicking, ultrasoft fabric, this nursing/pumping bra will be a great addition to your wardrobe. It allows you to pump hands-free without having to undress or change and is comfy enough to keep on all day long. There are also no snaps, zippers, or tags, making it far more comfortable as your size fluctuates.

Bugaboo Ant

Bugaboo Ant Travel Stroller: Bugaboo has entered the carry-on travel stroller game! The Ant is the only reversible seat travel stroller on the market and it offers great suspension. It has a height adjustable handle, a near-flat recline for newborns, and an adjustable seat height for taller kids. Available for pre-order now!

Please note that these opinions are 100% my own and I have not received any products in exchange for placement in What’s New on Gugu!

What’s New on Gugu: April 24, 2019

This week’s new finds highlight some great Earth Day friendly selections. Reusable food pouches, baby food makers, and food grade silicone bottles are all great new items for the eco-friendly family. You will also notice some pop culture trends popping up this week. Baby Shark anyone? For loads of our other favorites, please check out our Explore page!

Baby Brezza Food Makers and Reusable Pouches: Earth Day celebrations always remind me to make smart choices regarding the products we use in everyday life. Baby Brezza has continued to make the ‘homemade baby food game’ a reality with easy to use machines and reusable pouches! Simply pop your favorite fruit and/or veggies in the container (love the Glass for eco-friendly or the new Deluxe) and watch them cook and blend with ease. Pour any delicious mixture into the reusable pouch and you’re good to go! Added bonus – the pouches are top-rack dishwasher safe!

Hatch Maternity x Nordstrom: As we (not so) patiently await the arrival of Baby Sussex, it has become much easier to attain our own ‘Markle Sparkle!’ The new collaboration between Hatch Maternity and Nordstrom highlights items from a brand we love so much. Pair together classic tops, pants, and dresses to keep things comfy and chic!

Baby Shark Toys and Walker: The ‘Baby Shark’ craze doesn’t seem to be leaving us anytime soon. Wowwee, the brains behind ‘Fingerlings’ continue to create engaging toys for our little ones. We have a love/hate relationship with their line of singing shark characters, which will instantly burn that catchy tune into your brain! Plus, coming in October is their newest toy, a brand new Baby Shark inspired walker for baby.

Boon NURSH Silicone Bottles: Another Earth Day find, the Boon NURSH bottle system utilizes a special bagged venting system that is reusable. Ideal for preventing gas, easily squeeze the silicone pouch to remove any excess air before feeding your babe. Plus, all parts are dishwasher safe!

Skip Hop Greenwich Convertible Hip Pack: With Mother’s Day around the corner, we love this sleek take on the fanny pack. Great for travel, we love this new hands-free accessory to hold the essentials. Pair with a diaper bag for an excellent gift for any mama-to-be!

Please note that these opinions are 100% my own. I have not received any products in exchange for placement in What’s New on Gugu!
