The Best Baby Carriers and Wraps for 2021

by Jenna Hatfield Leave a Comment

With so many baby carriers and wraps on the market, it can be hard to choose which one will work best for you and your baby. We’ve compiled a list of structured, hybrid, and wrap-style baby carriers to help you make a decision. No matter which baby carrier you choose, know that your little one will love the close contact with you and other care providers.

Best Wrap and Ring Sling Baby Carriers

Baby K’tan Print Baby Carrier – $59.95

You’ll love the way the Baby K’tan feels and acts like a wrap carrier—without the wrapping. You simply pull this baby carrier on like a t-shirt, and you’re good to go! You can wear your baby in five different positions with this one carrier. It will hold infants and babies weighing between 8 and 35 pounds. With no buckles, snaps, or other connections, you don’t have to worry about catching baby or yourself on anything. We shared the grey and white tie-dye print as it’s on-trend right now, but there are a number of different prints, colors, and fabrics in our store! You can also read more about the ergonomic benefits of the Baby K’tan on our blog.

Sakura Bloom Ring Sling – $140

The Sakura Bloom is a top-of-the-line ring sling, a baby carrier that fits across one shoulder and allows you to carry in a variety of positions. We linked the bamboo version here because the fabric is cooling against your little one’s skin, perfect for warmer temperatures. Additionally, the Sakura Bloom comes in a variety of fabrics and prints. Just a warning, if you fall in love with this style of carrier, you’re going to want the Mr. Blue Skye desert inspired print. This carrier is designed for babies ranging from 7 to 35 pounds. Lastly, the tail of a ring sling can double as a breastfeeding cover when you want to be more discrete.

Moby Wrap Featherknit Wrap – $49.99

The Moby Wrap feels incredibly lightweight and comfortable for both you and baby. We love that you can just toss this wrap directly into the washing machine to clean up any messes. It will grow with your baby from 8 to 33 pounds. We chose the Micro Mickey print for two reasons: The black and white print is versatile and goes with everything, and a subtle Mickey Mouse is sure to brighten your day.

Solly Loop Carrier – $125.00

In keeping with the wrap theme, the Solly Loop Carrier is a beautiful and comfortable option. The Loop Carrier can hold babies between 15 and 45 pounds, making it a great option for older babies and toddlers. They also have a traditional wrap to carry babies between 8 and 25 pounds, but we wanted to share an option for extended babywearing. The Loop features a unique sewn-in ring design to combine the easy use of a sling format with the support of a wrap-style baby carrier. This one also comes in a variety of fabrics, and you’ll love the Baltic Stripe for a classic look.

Boppy ComfyFit Baby Carrier – $50.00

If you like wrap style carriers and want to try another one, you’ll definitely want to grab the Boppy ComfyFit. You’ll love the compact design in addition to the fact that it comes with a Stash n’Go pouch to store it in when you’re not using it. You can throw the pouch in your purse or diaper bag. The adjustable waist belt also features a storage pocket, perfect for keys, a binky, and more. This baby carrier is ideal for babies between 8 and 35 pounds. Plus, that black camo print is definitely on trend for the year.

Best Structured Baby Carriers

Ergobaby Omni 360 Baby Carrier All-In-One – $179.00

The Omni 360 is the Cadillac of baby carriers. You can carry your baby in all positions with one carrier: front carry facing the parent; front carry facing out; hip carry; and back carry! You will appreciate the way you can adjust the straps by length as well as the crossable straps to help you find the best possible fit. Your back will also appreciate the lumbar support. This baby carrier is newborn ready, working for babies between 7 and 45 pounds. It comes in a variety of colors and prints as well.

Tula Free-to-Grow Baby Carrier – $159.00

The Tula Free-to-Grow will grow with your baby from 7 to 45 pounds. Thanks to the adjustable nature of this carrier, no infant insert is needed. It features breathable material in a variety of super cute fabrics. You can pick anything from more neutral solids to this super cute pink cactus print. Additionally, like other carriers, you can carry your little one in a variety of positions. Check out our tips on how to breastfeed while wearing a Tula as well.

JP Outdoor Co. Co-Pilot Day Pack – $189.00

If you’re more of the adventuring type, you’re going to want to grab a JP Outdoor Co. Co-Pilot. In additional to keeping your baby close on your next hike, this setup comes with a backpack that fits all of your gear as well as your baby’s important items. You’ll love the built-in changing station when you need to take care of business on the trail. This baby carrier will hold babies between 8 and 30 pounds.

Babybjorn Mini – $99.99

If you’re looking for a baby carrier that you can use from day one, the Baby Carrier Mini should be packed in your hospital bag! Your baby can be worn facing you between 7 and 10 pounds and can then face forward from about five months of age until they hit 24 pounds. This handy baby carrier comes in 3D Jersey, Cotton, and 3D Mesh, as well as a variety of colors.

Again, no matter which of these fantastic baby carriers is your best fit, your baby will love being close to you. Whether you’re walking, cleaning, or even working out while babywearing, you’ll be creating a close bond for years to come.

An ergonomic baby carrier – what is it? Put simply, it’s one that promotes healthy hip development in your babe. Gugu Guru always looks to make sure a carrier is approved by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute – this will ensure the carrier has an ergonomic design.

If you’re preparing for a new baby, picking out an ergonomic baby carrier is essential; newborns, and babies, love snuggling close to their caregivers, and we can’t lie, it’s awesome having your hands free to have a cup of coffee, do a little work, or care for your other kiddos. When it comes to babywearing, we’re huge fans of the Baby K’tan Carrier. The Baby K’tan ergonomic baby carrier is approved as hip-healthy by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute. Baby is worn in the natural seated position, with knees bent and hips spread, promoting healthy development. The Baby K’tan is ideal for travel, as well, as it comes in a matching carry bag that doubles as your sash. Simply flip the carry bag inside out to convert it to sash mode. Tie the sash around yourself and baby for added support in certain positions. The Baby K’tan Carrier grows with your child – choose the best position from sling wrap for newborn babies and preemies to an upright seated carrier for infants up to 35lbs.

What’s New on Gugu: Chicago Baby Show Edition

by Abby Ludwig Leave a Comment

We were off to the Chicago Baby Show this week to see what’s new in the baby world! The Gugu Guru team loved learning all about the latest and greatest items for babies and toddlers. Below is our wrap up of some of our favorite new finds. Some of these are brand new to the market and some may be familiar faces. We LOVE hearing about new products, so please never hesitate to send our way!

For a number of our other favorites, please check out our Explore page!

CoralUV

CoralUV Sanitizer and Dryer: We have been so excited about the launch of the CoralUV since we met one of the Co-founders last year at the Chicago Baby Show! You will fall in love with this machine while sanitizing and drying bottles, pacifiers, and teethers but it won’t end there! Continue to fall in love over and over again as you sanitize small toys, sippy cups, remotes, and anything else that comes in contact with your little ones. It’s also great for Mom’s makeup brushes! Now that they have formally launched, we know this will be a favorite appliance of parents for years to come!

Evenflo Pivot Xplore

Evenflo Pivot Xplore All-Terrain Stroller Wagon: We mentioned this new stroller wagon by Evenflo earlier this year when it was announced. It has now launched and is gaining fame by the minute! This is the perfect solution to older toddlers and young children who no longer want to ride in the stroller. Each seat will hold up to 55 lbs and there are both car seat adapters and toddler seats available. We also love the fact that this can have either a wagon ‘pull’ or a stroller ‘push.’

Larktale Stroller

Larktale Strollers – chit chat and coast: Launching earlier this year, Larktale brings two new strollers to the US market! The chit chat is a great lightweight option, perfect for travel or that everyday on-the-go family. The frame is also made from recyclable fiber-infused nylon, which is both eco-friendly and incredibly strong. The coast is Larktale’s all-terrain stroller, which is newborn compatible and has great all-wheel suspension. It even folds up small enough to fit in any trunk. Great compact, well made strollers!

m1 Carrier by Lascal

M1 Carrier by Lascal: A new fantastic find by one of our favorite companies, Regal Lager. The M1 Carrier is truly an adaptable carrier that has been designed with both baby and parent in mind. Made of completely breathable fabric, you will also be able to use this with one hand. No more struggling to get your little one in/out of the carrier alone! Newborn compatible (without an insert!), the seat will also change based on your little one’s needs. Plus it will provide ample lumbar support for anyone carrying baby!

Olababy

Olábaby Transitional Sippy Lid: Olábaby bottles remain some of our top recommendations, especially for parents who want eco-friendly without the weight of glass. When we stopped by their booth at the Chicago Baby Show, they had lots of fun things to show us. We were most excited about their Transitional Sippy Lid, which will attach to your current Olábaby bottles and help ease your babe’s transition. No more struggling with new spoutless cups or straw cups for months. This is a great, budget-friendly investment!

Lalo

Lalo: The brains behind both ‘The Daily’ (stroller) and ‘The Chair’ were showcasing all of their products’ features this year. We loved taking a stroll with the Daily and seeing how much we could really stuff in that large (adjustable) basket. We also were so intrigued at how easy ‘The Chair’ is to clean. Plus we love that it adjusts to a toddler size chair. We can’t wait to see what else comes out of the Lalo team this next year! Lalo has also partnered with BabyQuest to assist couples and individuals with the cost of fertility treatments. Apply for the grant by Sept 5 by clicking here.

bets & emy

bets & emy Baby Wipes: These wipes will change your baby’s life if s/he suffers from sensitive skin! Made of 99.9% water and 0.1% citrus extract, these wipes will keep your little one free of painful diaper rash. However, different than other natural wipes on the market, these are textured and large, meaning you can actually use less wipes to clean up all of lifes ‘big’ messes! They are even soft enough to use on your face AND (fun fact from the owner) they will take off makeup!

Nuna Exec

Nuna Exec: Although this seat isn’t expected to launch in October, we loved seeing it this past weekend! Exclusive to Nordstrom, this seat will truly be the only seat you’ll ever need. Starting as a rear facing infant-compatible car seat, it features a built in anti-rebound bar, infant insert, and easy to install capabilities. When you’re ready to forward face, simply turn the seat around for your little one. As your kiddo gets older, this will even turn into a seat belt booster, with easy-to-store panels for the harness.

Please note that these opinions are 100% my own and I have not received any products in exchange for placement in What’s New on Gugu!

Lascal m1 Baby Carrier: The Only Carrier You’ll Need

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

We’re huge fans of babywearing for parents for so many reasons; the ability to keep your little one close while having your hands free is a must-have for many families, and yet it can be confusing to choose the right carrier for your family. We’re excited to introduce you to the Lascal m1 Multi-Position Baby Carrier that has all of the elements you’ll ever need for babywearing.

Parents love the Lascal m1 Multi-Position Baby Carrier because it is extremely comfortable and easy-to-use. Whether you’re running errands, traveling, or simply bopping around the house, the Lascal m1 Baby Carrier has everything you need. Offering 3 unique carrying positions within an ergonomic design, this supportive accessory carries your child in optimal comfort. The Lascal m1 Baby Carrier is ideal for infants because the Infant M-Seat allows babies weighing 8-12 lbs. to always sit in the most ergonomic hip-friendly “M-Position” with knees higher than the hip. In fact, parents can rest easy knowing that the m1 Carrier is acknowledged by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute (IHDI) as hip-healthy by giving correct support for your baby’s legs, hips, and spine.

And, you can still use the Lascal m1 Carrier as baby grows, as the unique and patented Hip-Zip system offers perfect ergonomic leg support under toddler’s thighs, even in the forward-facing position for maximum comfort. The carrier features soft padding and thigh support, which means no more uncomfortable dangling legs for your little one. The carrier also features a fold-up head shield that supports and protects your little one’s head and neck.

lascal carrier

One of the reasons we love this carrier so much is that Lascal not only took baby’s comfort into account, but the parent’s comfort level, too. The adjustable lumbar support provides lower back comfort and a wide padded waist belt and shoulder straps relieve stress on the wearer’s shoulders and neck. The m1 fits all shapes and sizes with just a few quick adjustments using the intuitive and easy-to-use buckles, making it a breeze to put on and take off. Plus, their Strap-Tidies keep all loose straps neatly folded for a clean and nice look.

The Lascal m1 Baby Carrier is ideal for travel, as it features a pull-out weather shield with UPF 50+ that protects your child from the sun, rain and more. For long days wearing baby, you’ll both appreciate the ultra-soft, breathable 3D fabrics to ensure superior comfort for baby and keeping you cool, too. The Lascal m1 Baby Carrier has all of the functional features you need in a baby carrier from infancy to toddlerhood, is comfortable for both baby and parent, and looks sleek for on-the-go times and beyond.

What’s New on Gugu: March 6, 2019

by Abby Ludwig Leave a Comment

We’re back with another What’s New on Gugu! This week we’re sharing some items that are brand new to the market and others are oldies but goodies that you may not know about. For loads of our other favorites, please check out our Explore page!

Preggo Pickles: After trying this product at a baby show this past weekend, I was blown away! Not only are they delicious but they will truly satisfy that pickle craving that haunts many moms during pregnancy. Their unique flavors have also been created to support pregnant/new mom challenges (i.e. nausea and nursing). As an added bonus, they are extremely low in sodium when compared to other pickles on the market. So pregnant mamas crunch away!

bblüv Foöd and Döse: While National Snack Month may have ended (bye February!) we are still loving these new food storage containers from bblüv. Perfect for meals on the go, Foöd (coming soon!) is leak and odor proof and will keep your food warm (or cold) with it’s insulated walls. Plus the top can be used as a shallow bowl (with built in spoon!). Paired with the Döse stackable snack container, you will be set for on-the-go eating!

Magnetic Me Clothing: While these are not new to the market, the Magnetic Me Footies are always on my list of must-haves for new parents. The magnetic closure on these newborn essentials will be a game changer for those early days. The fabrics are so soft (I love the eco-friendly modal) and the patterns are adorable!

Toofeze: You’ve all been there (or will be soon!). Your little one is in pain from teething and nothing seems to be helping. Until Toofeze! A teether made of food-grade silicone and stainless steel, your baby will instantly be drawn to the cool relief.  When the stainless disc finally does warm up, simply stick it into a glass of cool (or ice) water and it will instantly chill. This will quickly become one of baby’s favorite toys.

Solly Baby Spring Collection: Another oldie but goodie, we often recommend the Solly Wrap to our users as a must-have for the fourth trimester. Not only do they have exceptional wrap carriers, but we also love the swaddle blankets and layette sets. Their new Spring collection is few of beautiful colors, and even a few patterns all great for Mom or Dad!

Cold Weather Babywearing – What You Should Know

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

This post on cold weather babywearing is brought to us by Linnea Catalan the Executive Director of the Baby Carrier Industry Alliance.

Winter weather brings new challenges for staying warm while still getting out and about, especially once you add a baby into the mix! The good news is that today you have more options than ever for cold weather babywearing.

Safety First
Keep your little one snug, warm and close to your chest in a properly fitting sling or carrier. The most important thing is to be mindful and never cover a baby’s face with a blanket, cover or zipped up jacket when cold weather babywearing. This is equally important in other container-type devices as well (like strollers and infant bucket seats). Covering a baby’s face makes it impossible to monitor them and can lead to suffocation or C02 rebreathing.

Also, watch your footing, especially in adverse weather conditions or if you are carrying your baby on your front and can’t see the ground below you. Be extra mindful of slip and fall hazards in icy conditions.

Cold Weather Babywearing boba

Staying Warm
You have a few different options for staying warm while cold weather babywearing. First, decide if you want outdoor gear that goes over both you and baby together or if you are wearing your carrier and baby over your jacket and dressing baby separately.

  1. You can choose sharing one layer that goes over both of you, but remember that you and baby will be sharing body heat and that the carrier also functions as an additional layer for both of you. Dress your baby as you’ve dressed yourself, making sure hands, feet and head have adequate protection. You’ll be sharing a lot of body heat so make sure you don’t overdress either! Layers are key.
  2. There is also outerwear but your options for outerwear are going to depend on your climate and activity. Here are a few options that are all meant to go over your existing carrier:
  • Fleece sweaters for two, like the Boba Babywearing Hoodie are a lightweight option.
  • Already have a coat you love? A zip in jacket panel lets you turn your existing winter jacket into a coat for two (also very useful for pregnancy!) We love the Make My Belly Fit collection as well as the Kokoala jacket extender.
  • A purpose made babywearing jacket can be a bit of investment but many parents find that it’s worth the money for convenience and fit. Many of these jackets modify for maternity use, as well as wearing it as a regular jacket. One of our absolute favorites is the Booker Coat from B&Me (they also offer a vest and adorable babywearing hat for your little.) There are also quite a few on the market that allow you to do front and back carries. We love Liliputi’s 4-in-1 Mama Coat, Diva Milano’s babywearing puffer jacket, Mamalilia’s classic cut wool jacket, and MaMidea’s entire range of babywearing garments. (Editor’s note: heads up that these last four brands are not US companies and therefore reflect a different currency. Please also double-check shipping information and costs.)

Wearing your carrier over outerwear:
Be mindful that babies don’t regulate temperature as well as adults, so dress your baby in appropriate winter layers the same way you dress yourself. You’ll want to avoid anything excessively bulky as this can be difficult to fit into a carrier properly.

Mind the gap – carriers can hike snowsuits up at the legs, exposing skin to the cold. Baby leg warmers, baby tights (for boys and girls) and wool or waterproof booties will help keep baby warm and protected.

Cold Weather Babywearing ergobaby

There are many brands of carrier covers that are meant to add an extra layer of warmth. These are a soft shell (some are waterproof, insulated, fleece-lined etc) that attach around your existing carrier and cover your baby. Some do double duty and work in strollers as well. We’ve rounded up a few options- take a look at the BABYBJÖRN cover or a microfiber versions, like Ergobaby’s winter weather cover, and Jolly Jumper’s easy to find Snuggle Cover as a start.

Don’t let the cold weather keep you inside! With a little prep, you and your little one can enjoy getting out with minimal fuss. The above options are not at all exhaustive, but should be a good start to point you in the right direction.
