Baby Eats with Happy Family, OlaBaby and guzzie+Guss

March is national nutrition month, and while we’ll be celebrating all next week, our editor, Olivia, wanted to share some of her favorite foodie finds which her little guy loves. Check out her baby food essentials below!

As a mom, I love when my little ones get to explore with their food. I also happen to love when that food is super healthy and delicious for their growing taste buds, too. Ever since my oldest son could eat solids, I have been a superfan of Happy Family – and, now that I have a toddler and baby, I can still use their food, because they make baby, tot, and kid products too! Every aspect of Happy Family foods are so well thought out, especially with nutrition in mind. Even their baby puffs are chock full of healthy nutrients like choline, for brain and eye health. Their food pouches are perfect for early eaters, or I like to mix the purees into cooked rice or oatmeal as the baby gets older. The baby pouches are clear – making it easy to see all the fresh goodness packed in! And, to be honest, my toddler grabbed a hold of the gluten free multi grain alphabet snacks and not only proceeded to announce each letter he ate, but shared them kindly with his brother. I absolutely love that Happy Family uses interesting flavor combinations to expose baby’s taste buds to all sorts of fruits and veggies – even mama steals some of the food, too!

As a parent, it’s an amazing transition to see your little one learn to use a spoon and…feed themselves! My little guy was never a fan of letting me feed him with a spoon, and eating with his hands is such a mess, so I was beyond excited to try the OlaBaby SteamBowl and spoon. The Olababy SteamBowl is designed to perfectly prepare steamed baby food puree, allowing parents to retain the rich nutrients for a child’s healthy diet. We also use it to prop her up on when playing with a toy and we use it as a pillow when we are laying on the floor with her. There is a handy handle on it too to make it easy to carry. Skip Hop Highline Backpack Diaper Bag

A Baby Bag that is stylish and convenient. The Skip Hop bag has great organizing pouches and comes with a changing pad. Katie and I trade off using it for work because it looks professional. When we go out with Kennedy it doesn’t look like we are carrying a diaper bag, it looks like we are carrying a nice purse.

Beaba Baby Food Maker

We had always planned on making Kennedy her food. We planned on using our blender to make it for her. We always thought baby food was too expensive and making our own baby food would be affordable and healthier for her. We came across the Beaba Baby Food Maker and fell in love. This machine is amazing. There are two sides to it so it can make double the amount of food. You could have two different foods going at one time. It only takes 15 minutes for this machine to first steam your food, then to blend it. All you have to do is chop the food up and throw it on. Not to mention it saves on all the dishes we would have used if we would have made Kennedy food using pots and the blender. WE use it to make food for us too. I don’t think we will ever make mashed potatoes or applesauce the way we used to. It’s so much easier to make them using this machine. The severing sizes it makes are perfect for adults and for kids!

Skip Hop Explore and More Baby’s View 3-Stage Activity Center

We don’t like the overly colorful jumpers so this one is perfect! It’s easy to assemble and it can change as your baby grows. It has three stages of use: It can be used to sit, swivel, bounce and play; it can be used to cruise and interact; and it can be used as a play table. Plus, the play activities can be moved around, so it’s incredibly versatile as baby grows up!

BabyBjorn Baby Carrier One

I wish we would have thought to get a 4-position carrier from the beginning! This carrier is amazing! Kennedy loves facing out at this age. She only likes facing in if she is tired. This carrier can have your baby facing toward you, on your side, on your back, and front facing. The carrier is designed to grow with your baby from newborn to 3 years (There is no infant insert needed. This will come in handy for our next baby). The carrier is hip-healthy for babies and provides proper support for their growing body. The carrier also has support for adults which is definitely needed as your baby grows. Kennedy now weighs 18 pounds! I need that support!

Finn and Emma Play Gym

If you love modern and simple, this play gym is amazing. The style is simple and it makes a great decoration to any nursery. I don’t mind having it out all the time because of its great design. Kennedy loves playing with it! The toys on it can be taken off and changed out if you decide you want different ones too.

Adorable Onesie – Hatched By Two Chicks

We got this onesie when Kennedy was a baby, and Gugu Guru suggested it for us again, as well! So, we have it in two sizes now – perfect for when we have another babe too. Since Kennedy was born using Christina’s eggs and Katie’s womb, she was quite literally hatched by two chicks!

An Avid Runner’s 6 Baby Registry Picks

We connected with running mom, Leah Balentine, on Instagram last year when she was pregnant and we’ve followed her ever since. I started distance running after college. I ran my first marathon (Marine Corps Marathon) with Team in Training in 2009. One thing led to another and over the last few years I have run 10 marathons. I slowed down but continued to run during pregnancy.

Stroller running brings a whole new level of intensity but it is so fun! We love to run around Honolulu. A great place for stroller running near us is Ala Moana Park. It’s a beautiful, paved park.

Travel Essential: BABYZEN YOYO+ Stroller

When Gugu Guru’s editor in chief, Olivia, was heading on a road trip to North Carolina for Thanksgiving, she quickly realized that with two carseats, a husband, and luggage, there was no room for a stroller in the car too. When my husband and I decided to drive down south for Thanksgiving, I was super excited because I thought, “awesome, we’ll have a car and can bring as much baby stuff as we need!” Boy, was I wrong. Between the carseats, guitar case, luggage, toys, extra clothes, and food, there was not one inch of the Subaru to spare. However, BABYZEN heard my woes and was kind enough to let me try the BABYZEN YOYO+ stroller out for our trip to North Carolina. Off the bat, I loved the idea that the stroller would work for both my kids; my infant is tall for his age, so even at 5 months old, he fit in the stroller just fine.

So, what’s all the fuss about the BABYZEN YOYO+ stroller? This stroller is like a superhero: it folds up in a flash! With most strollers I’ve tried, you have to dissemble the stroller and place the large parts in the back of your car or garage; there’s really no easy way to travel with most strollers. However, the YOYO+ folds up to hand luggage size (!); seriously, there were a few times we had the stroller out with us and my toddler wanted to walk, so we folded the stroller up and used the shoulder strap to carry it like a large bag. We didn’t have to go back to the hotel or car, we simply just kept walking since the stroller is so lightweight and easy to carry folded up. There is also a good sized storage basket on the bottom, so as we shopped, we could add items to the stroller instead of carry them. The few times my toddler was tired, he would ride in the stroller, while I wore the baby in the carrier, and my diaper bag would go under the stroller.

Another reason this stroller is a must have for travel is the throw-up factor! Kids and babies get carsick, or sick eating new foods, and this stroller washes like a dream. All the fabrics come off and can be thrown in the washing machine, at home or the hotel (trust me, it happens).

I’ve learned a few things in my last years of parenting, and one of them is that when you’re traveling, often times you don’t need to overpack because there are pharmacies, supermarkets, and Buy Buy Baby stores all over America – however, trust me when I say this – you cannot take another trip without this stroller. Not only is it lightweight, compact, and folds up in a flash, but the stroller is sturdy, safe, and also really nice looking! Both the toddler and baby took their turns in it, and they were comfy, even rolling over the hills of Carolina.
