Baby Humidifier Pick for Your Nursery: Crane Humidifier

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

One of the most often overlooked aspects of a baby’s nursery is the air that they breathe, which is why it’s imperative to add a baby humidifier to your baby registry. The baby humidifier Gugu Guru is always recommending to add to your baby registry is Crane USA’s Drop Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier, as it not only is easy to use, but comes in a huge variety of colors and styles, so you are sure to find one which fits with your home’s aesthetic. A baby humidifier will also help baby sleep better, and actually help keep the air healthy, clean, which helps baby from getting congested and sick. A baby humidifier is an essential necessity for any baby’s nursery for so many reasons!

Baby Humidifier - Crane Drops Variety Image

When it comes to a baby humidifier, the drop humidifier by Crane USA is your ultimate choice, as it does not require a filter and is super easy to clean – meaning you don’t have to remember to buy anything else, just simply clean and you’re good to go. The drop humidifier by Crane USA features an easy to clean 360° mist nozzle, so you can keep the humidifier clean and working properly, which in turn will help baby sleep better. Many parents are concerned about mold and mildew with a baby humidifier, however the drop humidifiers have an anti-microbial base to reduce mold and mildew, so there is no need to worry about mold or mildew in your baby humidifier.

Since it is a baby humidifier, we appreciate that Crane USA’s Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifiers are whisper quiet; they feature whisper quiet voltage, as low as a light bulb. No loud noises or beeps to wake the baby up in the middle of the night. The drop humidifier can run for up to 24 hours and has an auto shut off, so if you’re in a sleep deprived state, it’s just one less thing to worry about.

baby humidifier

But, the real reason a baby humidifier is an essential part of a nursery is that when babies breathe easier, they will sleep easier too! More sleep for baby means more sleep for everyone, right? Baby humidifiers are especially important for newborns because they are Obligate Nasal Breathers, which means they breathe only through their noses for their first 4 – 6 months. Any congestion can make breathing, feeding, and sleeping incredibly difficult for your little one, which is why it is crucial to have a baby humidifier in the nursery, such as Crane USA’s drop humidifier. And, as we always talk about investment, Crane USA’s Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier will grow with your child, as even toddlers and kids need humidifiers! In fact, many pediatricians recommend the use of a humidifier as a safe, non medicated, all natural alternative to help relieve congestion from the common cold and flu instead of potentially harmful over-the-counter cough and cold medicine.

The Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier from Crane USA is a must-have on your baby registry, as it will help baby stay healthy, sleep better, and is super simple to maintain – we think you’re going to want a baby humidifier in every room of the house!

Here’s what our Chief Baby Planner, Julie, has to say about the Crane Humidifier:

Celebrating Earth Month with Colgate Mattress

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

With Earth Day in April, it seemed like the perfect time to chat once again about a much loved standard crib mattress brand here on Gugu Guru, Colgate Mattresses. There are so many reasons we love and highly recommend Colgate Mattresses for parents; as you know, the decision to pick out a standard crib mattress can be overwhelming for some parents, as not only is the mattress where baby will spend the majority of their time, but the crib has to be a safe and soothing place for baby to rest, play, grow, and learn. Made in America, Colgate Mattress is a third-generation family-owned and operated company comprised of committed craftsmen who have been dedicated to manufacturing quality crib mattresses for over 60 years.

We’ve written extensively about why Colgate is a fantastic choice for your nursery in our Back to Sleep campaign, Innovative Sleep Products roundup, and as a Nursery Essential for Mother’s Day, plus we got to Meet the Makers Behind the Mattresses, but today we’re focusing on a very exciting new collection within the Colgate company, the zenBaby line of mattresses.

The zenBaby Collection from Colgate is their most innovative mattress line yet, as it is designed with KulKote®, a groundbreaking water-based temperature-regulating technology that helps create a tranquil and secure, zen-like environment for baby to relax and sleep.

The exclusive collection includes a Hybrid 2-in-1 with pocketed microcoils, a 2-Stage eco-classica™ foam mattress, and a Portable Crib Mattress – all made with KulKote® to ensure the most comfortable and “zen like” sleeping climate for baby; the zenBaby line of mattresses is the first and only crib mattress to feature this innovative sleep technology. Since we’re focusing on Earth month and being eco-friendly within the nursery, we wanted to point out that  that all three mattresses use premium eco-classica™ foam, are entirely made in the USA and are CertiPure and Greenguard gold certified – incredibly safe for baby, bringing you, as a new parent, peace of mind.

When you’re buying a Colgate mattress, you are investing in your child’s future of restful sleep, as the zenBaby™ Hybrid 2-in-1 is a versatile, dual-firmness, infant-to-toddler transition crib mattress. The infant side features an extra-firm eco foam made with plant oils and coated with KulKote® for optimal temperature regulation and comfort. The toddler side features durable and supportive microcoils for added pressure relief, breathability and posture support.

We know many parents will love that the zenBaby Hybrid also features an ultra soft cotton blend cover with waterproof backing, and chemical-free rayon cloth flammability barrier; you can rest easy knowing your baby is sleeping on the safest mattress possible, and breathing in fresh air, free of any chemicals. Plus, all Colgate products are hypoallergenic, odorless and GREENGUARD® Gold & CertiPUR-US® certified safe for no harmful emissions. Colgate has always chosen to use non-toxic barrier fabrics instead of harsh fire retardant chemicals to give parents peace of mind while not only meeting, but exceeding federal flammability standards. Colgate takes your baby’s safety incredibly seriously and they are the first mattress company to use natural coir fiber made from coconuts shell husks.

Colgate is legendary for their commitment to exacting manufacturing standards of crafting safe crib and toddler mattresses. Colgate uses only the highest quality components, hand assembled right here in the USA because, as they say, “while many crib mattresses may look similar on the outside, we know it’s what’s on the inside that counts.” When it comes to your baby’s safety, especially regarding sleep, there are no compromises to be made, which is why Colgate is your one-stop-shop for your baby’s mattress needs, they’ve been providing parents peace of mind since they began in Atlanta in 1955, and have paved the way for setting the standard when it comes to your baby’s crib mattress.

Gugu Guru is so appreciative of our sponsors; thank you to Colgate Mattress for making this sponsored post possible.

Creating a Safe and Sleep-Friendly Nursery with The Sleep Lady

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

Kim West, LCSW-C, also known as The Sleep Lady, is our go-to guru when it comes to anything safety and sleep related. She’s here today to share her super helpful tips for creating a safe and sleep-friendly nursery.

When I was expecting my first child I began to dream of making our extra bedroom into a nursery for our firstborn. I thought about the color of the walls, the fabrics I preferred, and where to position the furniture. My initial thoughts were not about creating a safe and sleep-friendly nursery, to be honest with you! That came later. But really, it is far more important than where the dresser goes!

There are a few key ways you can make your baby’s nursery safe AND sleep-enhancing. Safety always comes first, so let’s start there.

Safety Tips:

  • Choose a firm mattress, topped with a snugly-fitted, smooth sheet. Avoid bumpers as they can be a safety hazard.
  • Maintain an uncluttered sleep surface: no pillows, loose blankets or toys in the sleep space.
  • Insist on a non-smoking environment for your child’s sleep space.
  • Check that there are no cords, hanging picture frames or art, house plants, or other items within 3 feet of your child’s crib or sleep space.

Making a Sleep-Friendly Environment:

  • Keep it Dark. Consider adding blackout curtains or blinds to your child’s windows. A newborn’s internal clock is not developed yet so we have to be their external clock by making their room dark when it’s time to sleep. Along with following a soothing bedtime routine, a dark room will help your newborn’s body to secrete melatonin, the drowsy making hormone, and get ready for sleep.
  • Use a White-Noise Machine. White noise is very soothing and helpful for babies because it is similar to the noise they hear for months inside the womb. It also drowns out outside noises such as toddlers playing or activity outside the home. When shopping for a device consider one with multiple sound options and that works continuously throughout the night.
  • Set a Comfortable Temperature. Often we overlook the nursery’s temperature but this is an important factor for your child’s sleep. In general, we all sleep better in cool temps and, because babies are unable to regulate their body temperature entirely, they are dependent on us to set the environment for them. This includes their clothing as well. The thermostat should be between 68-72 degrees. If needed, utilize a fan or AC unit in the summer as well as keeping the curtains closed during the day to block the hot sun from warming up the room. Instead of a blanket, use a wearable blanket or sleep bag to keep your baby warm and safe.

Soothing Surroundings for Easier Sleep:

Go ahead and enjoy making your nursery as lovely as possible. But, remember the main point of the nursery is for your baby’s sleep!

  • Use Soft Colors. Choose soft, neutral, or pale colors for the decor.
  • Dim the Lights. A night-light may come in handy for a late-night check-in and installing a dimmer on a lamp may help while nursing or for changing a diaper as unobtrusively as possible.
  • Remove Toys. While mobiles are beautiful to look at over a crib, they can be overly stimulating, particularly when done in bright colors. Consider using one over a pack-n-play or bassinet when your child is awake. Also, keeping the room tidy and uncluttered will help keep distractions down once your baby becomes alert of his surroundings. With this in mind, keep exciting and favorite toys out of his line of sight while in his sleep space.

Setting up a safe and sleep-friendly nursery is not too hard to do and it goes a long way toward helping your child get the sleep he needs.

Our friend Alex Mooney of Pics and Paws Photography is here to break down how easy it is to photograph your little one. You can find Alex on Instagram and Facebook. Check out more posts from Alex: Photographing While Babywearing, and Tips for Photographing Your Kids

A baby changes everything.  This is not a new concept; however, I’d argue that as soon as that baby arrives, your momtog (or dadtog) game is infinitely stepped up.  Your subject goes from selfies and/or dog photos to capturing that sweet, adorable, perfect little bundle you just welcomed into the world.  Heck, I’m reminded of this every.single.day. when I look at my pre-baby timehop from five years ago and there is maybe a single photo shared from that day of my dog…and not a good photo of him either.

So once your little lady or dude (or both, cause #multiples) arrives you want to step your photo snappin’ game up because you cannot wait to share that little one allllll over social media — or at least in that 10 person group text you’ve got going on with your fam.  I’ve got a few baby photos 101 tips and tricks for you to capture the best snaps you can of your little one so he or she can be forever printed and hung on you walls — or at least part of your Instagram feed.  And you don’t need a fancy camera to make this happen!  I mean, if you’ve got one, USE IT, but if not, the camera on your phone works just as well.

First, LIGHTING.  This can make or break your snap.  Try and embrace natural light if at all possible…but if your babe is look extra adorable in a dimly-lit space: use that flash.  Natural light is my best friend and I get seriously depressed on dark and gloomy days because I know my snaps will not be the same as they would be with the sun shining through my window.  I also like to play with the shadows and try and arrange my babe (or myself!) in a place that minimizes the shadows on baby’s face/body.

Secondly, keep snapping!  Digital photography is wonderful because you can quickly delete all of the not-so-great snaps.  However, if you are going in for a pic and are trying to snap that perfect ONE, you may miss a lot of other great candid ones in that waiting.  Take advantage of burst mode or a fast shutter on a DSLR and snap away.  Some of my favorite pics are the accidental ones I snap-crazed snapped that I did realized I was actually capturing!

Thirdly, embrace babe’s lifestyle.  I do very few ‘posed’ photos when I am snappin’ newborns…which are really limited to swaddling baby and putting her in a basket.  Other than that, I want to capture baby in the here and now and what their little baby life consists of: yawns, stretches, snoozin’ in their crib, crying (cause #reallife), their hands and feet and other adorable little features, and all of that other baby goodness that goes by way too fast.

Fourthly, find an editing app that you like!  Editing your photos can add a little something extra to your image you captured.  You can crop it to your liking, brighten it up (back to my first point if you have less than optimal lighting), add a filter or effect to it (I’m a big fan of the film and matte looks), and even black and white it for a more moody effect.  My go-to mobile editing apps are VSCO, PicTapGo, and Lightroom.  Nearly every photo I share on social media is tweaked first in one of these apps and then shared in its newly-edited glory for the world to see.

Lastly, GET IN THE PICTURE.  Hand your camera or phone off to dad (or your 4 year old) or set a timer and have them snap YOU with baby.  I don’t care how tired or haggard you look — get in that frame.  You’ll regret it one day, I promise.  Make sure you capture some of YOU with baby in the picture too!  That baby will grow up one day (faster than you’d like, by the way) and look back and want to see pictures of HIM WITH HIS MOM.  So drop the loathing of self-portraits and get in the pic for your kiddo’s sake.

My biggest advice: snap, snap, and keep snappin’ that sweet little babe and ingrain those sweet little baby memories into your mind — and camera roll — forever.

Meet the Maker: Milk Street Baby Cribs

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

-Sponsored Post-

When Milk Street Baby first debuted their gorgeous cribs, we were so excited to share them with you! And now, we are thrilled to introduce you all to Julie Knisley, the founder and designer of Milk Street Baby. Milk Street Baby is not only known for their modern designs with a traditional twist, but steadfast commitment to safety – which is why we are eager to have you learn more about Julie and her fantastic line of cribs and furniture during Baby Safety Month. Check Milk Street Baby out on their website, Facebook, and Instagram.

Why did you want to start Milk Street?

Milk Street was born after years of experience designing for other crib companies. I saw corners cut and facts incorrectly stated. I had no control and no final say in final production quality. I started and run Milk Street so I can make certain that we are offering moms and dads the absolute best crib on the market at our price. We offer real product as well as complete transparency to families. And, we encourage new moms to utilize the supplier of their local baby specialty store. These retailers we have partnered with know this niche and will offer a lifetime of support and education [editor’s note: we love this!]. Seems with all the online options these days, young parents assume that if a company is making cribs that those products are safe for baby. ASSUME NOTHING. I have seen the other side of this and know that not all cribs are safe. We want to educate our customers and the questions to ask as well as the answers to maximize wellbeing of that baby. There is nowhere you would leave your baby alone and unattended other than in the crib, that crib must be a safe haven.

What is your background in design and how did you come to care so deeply about baby safety?

My background is in furniture design, and I got my start creating children’s chairs for a company who produced cribs. I was working for the company that had a HUGE recall involving several baby deaths. This was when I realized someone needed to become an expert in all aspects of safety. I spent time in the testing labs and in countless factories to figure the specific parameters to design within.

I believed then and still do today that a crib is one of the most important purchases you will make in your lifetime. I wanted to design and produce a safe, beautiful crib for every type of family.

What is so significant about your commitment to safe finish AND design?

Safe finish is probably the single most important aspect of what we do, and an extra and costly step that no one else is doing. Construction and basic coatings tests are required to pass ASTM and CPSC standards. The construction standards are quite stringent but when it comes to coating, we feel we need to go the extra mile! Content finishes found in a nursery is incredibly important to the development and well being of your baby. We test every single layer of our finish — sometimes that mean 8 different layers — for phylates and heavy metals. Our competition only tests once… their finish. We test every layer because while there may be appropriate levels to phylates in that top coat/ single finish board when being tested…. over time and if top coat gets nicked or scratched… these phylates and other chemicals can seep through that top layer. We test every single layer and provide customers with complete results!

Why should parents invest in Milk Street cribs?

I believe we offer not only the best product on the market made from solid wood and veneers to the best functions, scale of design, and finish. Our quality is strong, and our pricing for what you are getting is unheard of. In fact, in talking about price, I went way below what my partners though these should be priced at. I wanted young families to be able to afford a real quality crib that would last the lifetime of their child. All of our cribs convert to be used long after the nursery. You can be sure you are getting an amazing value in every one of our cribs. Our cribs are made with love and held to the highest standards possible. Our company is the only crib company owned and managed by women!

What can Milk Street do for families? How can they enhance the overall safety and health of the house?

Milkstreet can provide your families with:

  • Peace of mind
  • Family heirloom that stays with child through adulthood
  • Cutting edge look
  • At Milk Street, our goal is to provide safety, support and edgy designs for our moms and dads. Julie Knisley has designed for the best brands in the world, and she founded Milk Street to find a way to maximize design within the limitations of a crib and to insist upon creating the safest haven for your little ones.

Thank you to Milk Street for making this sponsored post possible.

Baby Safety: Hands-Free Safety with JPMA

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

It’s National Baby Safety Month and every Monday we will be sharing tips from the leaders in baby safety knowledge at JPMA. Today’s tips are all about going hands-free with baby and how to stay safe. Don’t forget to check out our past posts with JPMA, strap safety, and the carseat challenge!

Babies are meant to be held. The closeness created when babies are held in their parents’ arms is invaluable to their development. Although you may not want to put your baby down, there comes a time when you must shower, brush your teeth, and make dinner!

There are a variety of juvenile products that provide some hands-free time for parents as well as entertainment or comfort for baby. Whether you are looking for an infant seat, bouncer, or swing; it is important to do your homework before purchasing and select a product that is perfect for your baby’s age, height, weight and fits your lifestyle.

No matter what product you choose for some “baby freedom”, be sure to follow these guidelines to ensure you are using them safely:

  • Babies should always be buckled into swings, infant seats, and bouncers.
  • NEVER leave a baby unattended. It is important to stay in the same room as baby while using any bouncer, swing, or activity center.
  • For swings, use a five-point harness whenever possible to keep baby from climbing or rolling out of the seat.
  • NEVER place bouncers or infant seats on beds, sofas, or other soft surfaces. Infant seats or bouncers can roll over and suffocate a baby.
  • ALWAYS secure the restraining straps and never leave a baby in the seat when straps are loose or undone.
  • Baby’s movements can slide an infant seat or bouncer, so be sure not to place the infant seat near the edges of countertops, tables or other elevated surfaces.
  • Never use a bouncer on an elevated surface.
  • NEVER place the swing or bouncer near windows, draperies, blinds, or wall mounted decorative accessories with long cords that baby could reach.
  • Follow the manufacturer’s minimum and maximum weight and age requirements.
  • Look for the JPMA certification seal.
  • Most importantly, although it’s an easy alternative to let your baby nap in the bouncer or swing, the safest place for a baby to sleep is in a fully functional, properly assembled, JPMA certified crib.

September is Baby Safety Month. Learn more tips on how to keep baby safe at home at babysafetymonth.org.

Amy Chezem is JPMA’s Senior Communications Manager and Baby Safety Month Program Director. Amy has managed the Baby Safety Month program for nearly two decades and helped expand the program creating one of JPMA’s largest consumer education and awareness programs to date.

National Baby Safety Month with MAM

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

September is #NationalBabySafetyMonth, sponsored annually by the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA). This month-long event increases consumer awareness of baby safety issues and the safe selection and use of baby products. For the past 40 years MAM’s top priority has been the development of products for the well-being, safety and health of babies that make life easier for parents and allow them to focus on the joy of family.

As parents, nothing is more important to us than the safety of our MAM babies. In observance of #NationalBabySafetyMonth @MAMbabyUSA is posting safety tips to help raise awareness of key things we can all do to protect our babies.

  • Strap in for Safety: Did you know that falls are the leading cause of non-fatal injuries in children ages 0 to 19? Daily about 8,000 children in the US visit the emergency rooms for fall-related injuries. This September, JPMA is focusing on strap safety! Safety belts and straps should always be used when available, whether it’s on the go, in the car, and even at home. Visit www.babysafetymonth.org to learn more about how to create a safe environment for your child!
  • Back to Sleep: Always place baby to sleep on their backs. A recent study by the American Academy of Pediatrics shows that about 2 in 10 babies are placed to sleep in incorrect positions that greatly increase the risk of SIDS. Babies should *always* be placed to sleep on their backs. Placing babies to sleep on their sides is just as dangerous as placing babies to sleep on their stomachs, since they are likely to roll over on to their stomachs while sleeping.
  • Pacifier: Consider pacifier usage when placing baby down for sleep and remember that the pacifier may not be reinserted once baby falls asleep. Pacifier use is shown to reduce the risk of SIDS. MAM supports the AAP published guidelines for pacifier usage; check them out here.  Read more here if you’re interested in more information about pacifiers and how they reduce the risk of SIDS.
  • Check It First: Before placing a pacifier in baby’s mouth, check to see if there is any damage or signs of weakness. Pull the nipple in all directions and throw away the pacifier at the first sign of damage or weakness. Pay extra attention to your child’s pacifier as teeth emerge, which can occur as early as 1 month. Be sure to replace your baby’s pacifier frequently – once a month or every two months.

  • Temperature: Always monitor your baby’s body temperature. Your baby could be too hot if you notice sweating, damp hair, flushed cheeks, heat rash and rapid breathing. One of the best ways to ensure your baby can regulate their body temperature while they’re asleep is to dress them in natural fibers like cotton, bamboo and merino. ErgoPouch (pictured) is a great choice when it comes to correctly dressing your baby for sleep. The correct, tog (warmth)-rated swaddle or wearable sleep bag/suit will allow you to not use blankets, which can place babies at risk of SIDS. You can see the complete ergoPouch collection here.

  • Crib Safety: Ensure that your baby’s crib meets CPSC standards and that everything in your nursery is free of harmful chemicals and toxins. Check that the crib of your choice is not on the CPSC recall list, here. Just as important is ensuring that your baby’s crib is placed away from (1) windows, where drafts and sunlight can put your baby at risk, and (2) drapes/blinds, which are strangulation hazards. Our friends at Micuna (pictured) offer a collection of safe, stylish cribs made of sustainable materials like solid Beech Wood. Check out their wide variety of cribs here.
  • Sleep time: Place baby to sleep on a firm mattress covered by a fitted sheet that meets current safety standards. Remove ALL soft objects from the crib: bumper pads, blankets, pillows and stuffed toys. A recent study by the American Academy of Pediatrics shows that almost 15% of babies are placed on non-recommended sleep surfaces each night while over 90% of babies have loose, soft objects in their cribs that pose suffocation risks. Please make sure to carefully check your baby’s sleep environment for these dangers to protect their safety.

  • Crib Mattress: Looking for a great, breathable crib mattress? Our friends at Newton Mattresses (pictured) make Greenguard Gold Certified breathable, washable and recyclable crib mattresses that are specially designed for baby’s health, safety and comfort. The innovative design allows air to flow freely for optimal breathability and temperature regulation.
  • Tummy Time: The SIDS institute says give your baby plenty of interactive tummy time. This should never be in a bed, a good place for this is on the floor. Never leave baby on their stomach unattended. Play with baby as he/she does baby push-ups. Gathre offers a great selection of wipeable, waterproof bonded leather mats — functional pieces that appeal to the modern mom’s personal aesthetic. Choose the perfect mat for playtime with baby with Gathre!
  • Picking a Pacifier: MAM pacifiers come in four sizes: newborn, 0-6, 6+ and 16+. Each size was developed with pediatric dentists and developmental psychologists to provide your baby with the ideal pacifier at each age and stage. These sizes are recommendations for your baby’s maximum comfort and safety; if your baby likes a MAM pacifier that is not the ideal size for his or her age, not to worry! It is still safe to use as long as all other safety guidelines are followed.

About MAM
MAM combines technological innovation, medical function and contemporary design to develop superior baby care products that support a baby’s development from day one. Since MAM developed its first pacifier in Vienna in 1976, it has evolved to become a global authority on baby care product design and quality. Today MAM products are used by families in over 60 countries and on six continents. Back to Sleep: Woolino Sleep Sacks

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

Back to Sleep week, which is focused on safe and healthy sleep for baby. Today’s post features Woolino’s sleep sacks, which are a year round must have for babies and toddlers. Plus, head to the bottom of the post to enter for a chance to win one!

If parents are looking for a safe and comfortable way for baby to sleep, sleep sacks are a perfect solution, since they are safe for baby to sleep with in the crib. However, not all sleep sacks can keep baby cool in warm weather and warm in cool weather! Babies don’t have the ability to regulate their own body temperature that adults have, so it’s important to make sure they’re not too cold or overheating, especially during the night time. However, merino wool is the perfect solution to this issue; merino wool creates a micro-climate around your baby, which maintains a consistent temperature for them. It has the ability to absorb water away from your baby’s skin and release it into the atmosphere during the summer. In winter, it will trap and circulate warm air, keeping your baby warm. A more comfortable temperature allows for a deeper and more restful sleep for your baby, so that that energy can be diverted to growth and development.

Woolino’s award winning 4 Season Merino Wool Baby Sleep Bag will keep your baby at a perfect temperature all year round. That means there’s no need to worry about which weight sleep sack to use, or whether your baby will be too hot or cold while sleeping – they’ll always be just right! It’s 100% natural, fully machine-washable, and is excellent value, as it comes in one universal size that fits babies from 2 months to 2 years. This is the only sleep sack you child will need, right up until they turn two.

Babies with sensitive skin or conditions such as eczema love merino wool – it’s hypoallergenic, so won’t irritate their skin. Not only is it incredibly soft and breathable, but because it is composed of the same protein that makes up the outer protective layer of our skin, it works in total harmony with our skin’s own protection mechanisms. It also inhibits bacteria, so minimizes other allergenic problems. Merino will not itch or irritate delicate baby skin. In fact, it’s one of the softest materials around. The wool fiber produced by merino sheep is significantly finer than other types of wool, so feels luxuriously soft and gentle against a baby’s skin.

Back to Sleep: Crane Humidifier

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

Back to Sleep week is focused on safe and healthy sleep for baby. Today’s post features the Crane Drop Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier which is a must-have for infants, clean-living, and health conscious families.

We featured Crane in last year’s Back to Sleep event also – and this year, it is no surprise that they are back, as we think they are an essential item for any nursery.  Not only is the Crane Drop Humidifier a nursery must-have, but their sleek style (and choice of many colors) will blend in to any nursery!

Plus, for all the eco-conscious families, Crane humidifiers are all BPA-free and energy efficient, using ultrasonic technology to add soothing moisture to the air. Crane’s Drop Humidifier is whisper quiet and operates on a low power consumption, more energy efficient than a household light bulb (up to 45W).

So, why is it essential to have a Crane Humidifier in your nursery? Humidifiers are especially important for Newborns because they are Obligate Nasal Breathers, breathing only through their tiny noses for their first 4 – 6 months. Any congestion can make breathing, feeding, and sleeping incredibly difficult for your little one.

Plus, the Crane Humidifier will grow with your child; even toddlers and kids need humidifiers! Many pediatricians recommend the use of a humidifier as a safe, non medicated, all natural alternative to help relieve congestion from the common cold and flu instead of potentially harmful over-the-counter cough and cold medicine.

Where in the nursery should you put the humidifier? Our Sleep Expert, The Safety Mom Says…
