by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

Let’s face it, one of the most fun parts of parenting is picking out all of the adorable clothing. However, any busy working mom knows there’s simply not enough time in the day to peruse online shops to find unique and cute clothes for your littles. Luckily, Gabri Isle is here to help. We’re huge fans of this mom-owned business for so many reasons, but we have to say, their commitment to supporting other women’s brands is top of our list, as Gabri Isle brings original baby clothes from female-driven brands across Europe to the US. The online boutique makes buying unique, high-quality European designer clothes a reality.

So, what does this mean for you? It means you have a one-stop-shop of unique and gorgeous European baby and kid clothes in one place! No more worrying about browsing endless websites looking for the perfect baby clothes, as Gabri Isle curates the best-of-the-best baby clothes from women-owned brands. There are just so many adorable pieces of clothing we can’t pick a favorite, but this MIMIKIDS Double Gauze Pastel Green Romper is surely up there on the list!

romper baby

This Pastel Green Romper is made of 100% double gauze fabric, making it super comfy for baby and easy to play, toddle, and crawl in. It can easily be dressed up for a special occasion, or worn around the house on a sunny day. We’d also layer a long-sleeved t-shirt and tights underneath to wear the romper in chillier weather, too. The romper has button closure with two buttons on each strap to grow with baby and makes diaper changes easy. Whether it’s for your little one, a gift for a new baby, or doing holiday shopping, we love Gabri Isle for busy working mamas to make your life a little easier!

Thank you to Gabri Isle for making this sponsored post possible!

The Village Reviews: Giggle Layette

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

At Gugu Guru are often asked, “What is layette?” Layette consists of baby’s first outfits, blankets, and linens. When searching for Layette pieces you want to make each item is both soft and functional. The new Layette collection from Giggle features high-quality fabrics, artist-designed prints, and easy-to-use closures. Our Gugu Village Parents were able to test Giggle’s Layette line and appreciated the attention to detail and cute prints! Here’s what they had to say…

This onesie is so simple and pretty. It’s very soft. The buttons are easy to close and open and I like how they are hidden with the fabric. It’s very cute; I will be buying one to give as a gift for my friend’s baby shower.

The duck bib is very cute. I love the design. It got pretty dirty the first day we used it and it held up well in the wash and looked brand new again. The blanket is very soft. It’s a great blanket to travel with as a car seat blanket. It’s not big and bulky. I put it over my baby after she was strapped into the car seat. I also laid it on the floor for tummy time. I love the duck design.
-Elena M.

My daughter absolutely loves her PJs. She loves anything soft and anything with a duck print! I was pleasantly surprised that the jammies didn’t attract stuff from the floor when my daughter was crawling around.

Unlike other baby brands of baby bath towels, the Giggle towel actually dried her off.  I especially like the little loop on the end to be able to hang it up. I’ll definitely be buying more.
-Crystal B.

All of the products in this collection are so soft, high-quality, and would make great registry items and baby gifts. The Giggle Duck Printed Onesie makes an adorable newborn outfit – especially if paired with the Duck Hat. It’s a great registry item or gift because the print is gender neutral and so, so cute! Some of the ducks wear party hats, which would make a great photo for baby’s birthday or a baby announcement! The Pima cotton is very soft against baby’s skin, and the material washes well and doesn’t fade.  They smartly added the attached mittens to this outfit, which prevents newborns from scratching their faces. The sizing seems pretty true to size – it doesn’t seem to run too small or too large.

We also got the Duck Hooded Towel and were again impressed with the softness of the material and how well it washed. It’s a generous size for our big boy and there was plenty of material to wrap him up after his bath. The hood was just the right size to cover a younger baby’s head but not cover the eyes. I appreciated the little detail of the fabric loop to hang the towel up to dry on a towel hook.

The Giggle Cashmere Blanket would make the ultimate baby gift. It is SO soft and luxurious. I originally thought the colored edge was going to be a different material, but it is 100% cashmere edge to edge. This blanket is perfect for keeping baby warm in the car seat or stroller on a blustery day, but cashmere is breathable and temperature-regulating, so I think we’ll be able to use it most seasons of the year. I have a feeling our baby will become attached to this blanket and will end up carrying it around as a comfort object someday!
-Alyssa N.J.

The Pajamas have really cute giraffes on them and are legitimately the softest pajamas I have ever felt. I want a pair for myself! My daughter refuses to take them off in the morning! I’m off to buy 6 more pair!
-Lori W.

The quality, overall, is beautiful. The buttons in the center where baby’s bottom is located made it more simple to close.  We only buy onesies where the sleeves extend over our baby’s hands, as his nails grow fast and sharp, not only did this onesie serve that purpose, but they smooth fabric didn’t even seem to bother the baby (who is usually quick to show is discontent).
-Ron T.

What’s New on Gugu: May 15, 2019

by Abby Ludwig Leave a Comment

I hope that everyone had a nice Mother’s Day! I have been busy this past week rounding up some excellent new baby and toddler items to help make your lives easier! Any product that will help save a few minutes each day is worth it in my book. There are also loads of great products in our Baby Shower Gift Guide.

For loads of our other favorites, please check out our Explore page!

Nurture by Imalac: Another JPMA find, Nurture by Imalac is meant to mimic hand expression either alone or while you are pumping. This helps new moms express more milk, express higher calorie ‘hindmilk’ and overall make the whole process more efficient. Not quite available yet, but keep watching their website for upcoming announcements!

Clek Liing: A new infant car seat from our friends at Clek! We love their modern style, high quality fabrics and added safety features, and you can easily spot all of these on the Liing. It does have a hefty price tag, but we love how easy it is to use! Install is a breeze (necessary for proper use) and the base has multiple recline options, which is pretty revolutionary for infant car seats!

Kaavi James Collection by Gabrielle Union: Inspired by her adorable daughter, Gabrielle Union has created a new kids line called the Kaavi James Collection. Available exclusively at select New York & Company stores, the line features adorable (and affordable!) pieces. There are even some ‘Mommy and Me’ styles, which are perfect for Spring and Summer BBQs!

Bibs Pacifiers: Relatively new to the American market, the Danish Bib Pacifiers are completely BPA, PVC, and Phthalate free. Available in 60 color combinations, and in a variety of size, these are a minimalist parents’ dream!

JJ Cole Outdoor Blanket: As the weather continues to get warmer, picnic season is upon us! Perfect for a day at the park or a backyard picnic, this water resistant blanket will hold up to its toughest users – babies and toddlers! Plus it folds into itself for easy transport and storage.

Please note that these opinions are 100% my own and I have not received any products in exchange for placement in What’s New on Gugu!

The Village Reviews: Gabri Isle

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

Looking for clothing as special and unique as your little one? Look no further! Gabri Isle has curated adorable European clothing from female-driven brands. Our Gugu Village Parents were able to try the Gabri Isle clothing and loved the quality, details and designs. You can learn more about Gabri Isle here and here, too!

Crystal B.
I received the brown wool romper and linen Peter Pan collared shirt by Mimiikids from Gabri Isle. Upon opening the packaging, there was great information included an overview of the brand MimiiKids and a description of what Gabri Isle is about as a company, including what they offer, how they chose their partnerships, and how it focuses on female empowerment.  I also enjoyed the note from the founder Severina. That was a thoughtful touch!

The outfit that I received was made from 100% cotton and 100% linen. The shirt had a rounded collar and I loved that it opened from the back which allows me to do my daughter’s hair and put on her shirt without messing it up. It definitely feels like real linen and a quality piece. It’s not connected to the romper so I can mix it with other pieces. The romper was a nice brown color with oatmeal specs with a bib front. It was very light. The straps are adjustable which allows room for growth. I also liked that the cross straps were stitched already because no one has time to figure that out with a constantly moving toddler! The elastic legs gave it a nice touch. One of the best things about the outfit is that it seems to be unisex. I’m a sucker for androgynous clothing! I have to say, I’m quite impressed and my daughter was too! She even wore it to take a spin around the neighborhood, lol!

Thanks again, Gabri Isle! Looking forward to seeing other female entrepreneurs’ creations!

Elena M.
When I received the ice cream romper I thought, “wow, what a nice bag it came in and a personal note was so sweet!” The outfit feels well made and the design is adorable.  We wore it to a family gathering and everyone complimented it. And the zipper! Amazing! All baby outfits should have that. So easy to change a diaper. I’ll be purchasing more clothes from Gabri Isle.

This headband is a great finishing touch to any outfit.  It’s very stylish. I haven’t seen another one like it. It goes great with the ice cream romper. It also stands up well in the wash.

Denalee M.
Gabri Isle is great. They were so accommodating finding my son’s sizes and the packaging was so personal and cute. I loved the bag the clothes came in! I love the concept of the store too. It’s important to me to support female business owners so I’m so excited I can do that with these clothes!

Penguin shirt: it is so comfy! The fabric was really soft and it washed well. You can tell it’s good quality. Sizing wise, the shirt was a little long and my son is pretty tall for his age but otherwise, it was great.

The pants: I don’t think we’ve ever had so many compliments on a pair of pants! Even random high school students who walked by us on the street complimented Mikey on his cool pants. Mikey also thought it was funny to see the gorilla eating bananas on his pants. My son will wear these all summer. They are a nice light and breathable fabric. The downside is that they’re not as soft as the shirt or other pants he owns but that didn’t bother my son. They were comfy enough to climb all over the playground!

European Baby Clothes: What’s Unique and Oh-So Chic

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

European baby clothes are always fun to shop and discover but finding chic styles for your mini fashion mavens can be tricky if you don’t know where to look. We spotted this noteworthy Danish brand from afar, and it was love at first suit. In 2005, byLindgren was started by sisters Anne and Katrine who wanted to fill a hole in the baby market—they couldn’t find sophisticated yet functional outerwear for their littles. With that specific mix as their driver, they created Mini Thermo Suits in deep navy and dusty purple.

european baby clothes gabri isle

With details that style-seekers of all ages would appreciate, these thoughtfully designed suits are perfect for a fashion mama and her mini me. Made of bionic materials that are water and soil-resistant, and free from harsh chemicals, these top-quality suits are travel ready, mess-friendly, AND super stylish.
While many outerwear styles constrict the movement of our wiggly, energetic babes, these warm suits let little ones move freely, comfortably. Plus, they are designed with a parent’s unpredictable lifestyle in mind: There is a zipper at the side-seam to make dressing and undressing super simple, a detachable hood, and patches at the knees and seat made of a water-resistant material.

European baby clothes

Crafted with ultra-soft fabric and a silky lining, these fashionable suits take baby outerwear to a new level. The combination of fashion-forward style and travel-friendly functionality makes them total gems. There is nothing like them—and we are so happy to have found this stellar European brand.
For more amazing European baby clothes from England, France, Denmark and beyond, check out Gabri Isle, the online boutique that houses quality baby clothes including this hope-they-have-it-in-adult-size outerwear (they don’t, we checked!).

We hope you enjoy this awesome bonus offered exclusively to Gugu Guru readers: Take 20% off your purchase at Gabri Isle with code GUGUGURU20. Keep calm (or don’t), and shop on.

Our job at Gugu Guru is to help you sort through the ‘fluff’ and figure out what items will be a great pick for your lifestyle and taste. Each week I will be sharing some items that we at Gugu Guru think should be at the top of your list to check out. Some of these items are brand new to the market and others are oldies but goodies that you may not know about. For loads of our other favorites, please check out our Explore page!

crewcuts x Gunner & Lux: A brand new collaboration has hit the market between J.Crew’s, crewcuts, and Gunner & Lux. Go Happy Kids Travel Tray: Created by a mom who saw a void in the market, this tray is the perfect addition for any on-the-go family. The no-skid bottom and food grade silicone top make his travel tray your new germ-free go to on the plane! This is an excellent way to keep your kiddos’ entertainment and snacks contained during travel.

Ready, Set, Food!: As a mom of kids with food allergies, I am always on the lookout for new products to help combat this growing trend. Allergist-developed, these daily packets are mixed with breastmilk, formula, or food to help reduce the risk of developing a common food allergy by up to 80%. Plus, their non-GMO and organic ingredients (only milk, egg, and peanut) are introduced based on research from clinical trials and pediatric nutrition guidelines.

DIY Baby Headband Tutorial with See Kate Sew

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

See Kate Sew partners with Gugu Guru once again to share a fantastic DIY tutorial. This time? How to create DIY baby headbands. This tutorial features the 4moms mamaRoo4. Don’t forget to enter for a chance to win one of these next level baby swings at the end of this post.

(Realizing I may have gone a little overboard with the baby pictures on this one, whoops!) But I’m thrilled to be back at Gugu Guru today with this cute DIY baby headband tutorial! You can check out more sewing and crafts at SeeKateSew.com!

DIY baby headband

I used knit (stretchy) fabric to create a 4-strand braided headband with a frilly ‘bow’ at the top. This requires only a little bit of actual sewing, most of the construction is pretty easy!

DIY baby headband

I love fun DIY baby headbands and especially love making them with really soft floral fabric. I used two types of fabric to get two slightly different looks! The black floral fabric is a stretch velvet, which curls up into a tube when you stretch it so it was a little easier to braid and has a thicker finished product. The pink floral is brushed polyester fabric, which is amazingly soft and doesn’t curl up as much for a flatter braid effect. Since these use knit fabric, it’s a great headband to go with a handmade outfit for a matching ensemble!

DIY baby headband

Scroll to the bottom of this post to enter to win a 4moms mamaRoo! We are loving this baby swing, you can read the rest of my review of the 4moms mamaRoo4 over at my blog, See Kate Sew.

Materials//

-1/2 yard Stretchy Knit Fabric

-large hair clip or tape

DIY baby headband
Instructions//

Cut 4 rectangles 24″ by 3″. If you are making this headband for a larger child, cut the pieces longer. We’ll trim them down at the end, so longer is better here.

DIY baby headband

Stretch each strand so the edges curl over. This will happen differently for different types of knit fabric. If the fabric curls the wrong way, press the strands in half with the right sides showing instead.

Now we’re essentially going to make a 4 strand braid!

DIY baby headband

Start by clipping the 4 strands about 4″ from the top of the strands. You can also tape them down to a surface like a table. I taped the open end of my clip to keep them all secure in there but you may not have to do this depending on the clip!

A 4 strand braid is made by crossing strand 3 over strand 2. Then cross 3 over and under 1 and 2 over and under 4. Next cross the 2 middle strands, 3 over 2 and cinch all the strands up for a tighter braid. Continue this process. Braid until there are about 4″ left.

DIY baby headband

Cross both ends of the headband to create a circle and meet the ends of the braid. Pin them together and sew right through the middle using a zig zag stitch. I like to make 2 passes so it is very secure.

Pull out one of the strands and tie it over the stitching so you can’t see it. This will also make the top look like a bow. Trim to your desired length.

Back to Preschool Fashion & Function

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

Have a kiddo heading back to preschool? Shana, a real Gugu Guru mama of a two-year-old, tells us about her back to preschool style must-haves for where fashion meets function.

The Backpack
Back to Preschool Tula backpack

Tula Kids Backpack
Fashion certainly meets function with the Tula Kids Backpack. As the mom of a back to preschool aged daughter who still rocks some 18-24 month clothes, I was hard pressed to find a backpack that would fit her small frame and not overwhelm her! The Tula Kids Backpack was the perfect trifecta – fashionable, functional (it’s water-resistant), and scaled down for smaller frames. It’s roomy enough that she can grow with it, and it’s high quality enough and durable enough to guarantee that she WILL grow with it!

The Empowerment Pieces
“I want to do it!” “ I do it myself!” Familiar phrases if you have a toddler or preschooler. Having a fiercely independent preschooler, I love anything that empowers her to do things on her own. This is especially true when it comes to clothes and shoes. Since one of my not-so-secret joys is buying her cute clothes, I’m always looking for quality and ease, without sacrificing style.

Back to Preschool clothes

Dapper + Crown
This uber stylish, classic children’s clothing line is designed by a mom and made in Los Angeles. Think wide-leg pants with elastic waistbands, breezy kimono style tops, and pull on skirts that are great in the warmer weather and can be layered for cooler weather. I particularly love the Dylan pants because they’re so easy for my little one to pull on and they look great dressed up or down. I mean, wide leg linen pants with little slanted pockets! Doesn’t get cuter than that.

Me Do
Every girl (and boy) has got to have their basics! Me Do does double duty – not only do they have basic tees and sweats for play, but the clothing features the Me Do Bunnies. Your child will learn the front from the back when they see the Me Do Bunny’s face on the front and the bunny’s tush on the back. Bonus: if your child has sensory issues or is just plain sensitive to tags and such, the clothes are tagless and have soft seams.

Back to Preschool boots

pediped Footwear
You may know pediped for their walkers, but did you know they make big kids shoes too? Flex is the brand’s line of rubber soled sneakers, boots and sandals that are great for little feet and cute to boot (pun intended!) I adore boots and apparently it’s genetic because my daughter loves them too. The Flex Eclipse boots are comfy, stylish and happen to be vegan (if that’s your thing.) Plus, if you’re like me and buy shoes with a bit of room to grow, but don’t want your little one clomping around like Frankenstein (which also leads to trips and falls), you’ll love their Flex Fit System, an additional insert that can reduce the shoe by almost half a size. Budget conscious mamas rejoice!

For Avoiding Mix-ups

Back to Preschool label

Stuck on You
Preparing for the first day of school, I realized that I needed labels! The Basic Mini Iron On Labels from Stuck on You were an easy choice. With a ton of color and font options, I settled on pretty pastels. They were on in seconds and I’ve had no issues with fading or peeling!

Toddler Footwear Alert: Freshly Picked Sneakers

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

Shana, a real Gugu Guru mama of a two-year-old, tells us about her newest obsession for the brand new sneaker line from Freshly Picked.

I simply cannot stand the cuteness of Freshly Picked’s new sneaker line! There was something so inherently classic and stylish about the Ebony Slip On Sneakers that I knew they would be a staple in my little one’s wardrobe. They’re super easy to put on, thanks to the elasticized sized and back pull tab. The textured rubber soles provide great traction for preschoolers, who tend to try to move faster than their little bodies should!

Constructed of genuine leather inside and out, the Freshly Picked Sneaker Line is made for easy on/off (bonus if you’re a Montessori mom like me) and are available in sizes 5-13.

Be sure to check out the rest of the sneaker line, including their Sneaker Moccs.
