J’Adore Lexie Couture’s Hospital Bag

by Gugu Guru 1 Comment

Lexie of J’Adore Lexie Couture, new mom to baby Viggo and lover of all things girly & glam shares the wonderful things she packed in her Petunia Pickle Bottom bag for her latest hospital stay to make it as comfortable and pampered as could be…

My little one has arrived and with that fact I wanted to share what I packed for the hospital stay for my baby #3.

The Bag

The Diaper Bag has to be at the top of your list. You need a fabulous bag to carry all the darling little things for bebe. I was so excited to try out this lovely cut velvet diaper bag from Petunia Pickle Bottom. I’ve heard many good things about these darling diaper bags. So, of course, I have this beauty stuffed and I am so eager to test it out. Read on to find out what I packed in my bags for my hospital stay.

Packing Your Bag for Hospital

I remember when it was time to pack for my first, Chloe, and how overwhelmed I felt! I literally thought that I needed absolutely everything under the sun and I was so nervous about being prepared when it came to my hospital stay and what I needed in the diaper bag.

Just like with my baby registry for my first, I had way more than I actually needed, and I also wasn’t as prepared comfort-wise for myself. Now I have an even better sense of what to gather to make things go as smoothly as possible. So, here are my essentials:

Nursing Tanks
When packing for myself the first things that rush to my mind are comfortable and easily accessible clothing for nursing. I personally love nursing tank tops because you don’t have to fiddle with a bra and a top during those first few days of adjusting to baby. I like to plan to make things go as easily as possible so I can truly enjoy the experience instead of feeling overwhelmed and uncomfortable, ya know?

Nursing Tanks

I went with Gilligan O’Malley Nursing Tanks at Target because out of the different ones I’ve tried I prefer them best. They get the job done, they don’t wear so fast and I found these cute new styled ones with buttons that I’m eager to try. I packed three for the hospital and in neutral colors as well (but if they had pink as an option I would have been all over that!!!!).

Robes Are An Absolute Essential
When I was at the hospital last year with my 2nd, Ivy, I absolutely LOVED having the Target – Gilligan O’Malley Robes. I seriously lived in them while pregnant and at the hospital. They’re so incredibly cozy, comfy and breathable. This is really important to be because I absolutely hate being hot! These specific robes are so perfect for the hospital because they provide quick and easy coverage for when you’re nursing, and trying to keep covered with all of the random people you don’t know that keep coming in and out of your room.

Plum Pretty Sugar

I also packed this Plum Pretty Sugar robe that has a feminine touch to it for the special photos with my little one!

Comfy Pants
Once again I’m going to refer you right back to Target here with Women’s Fluid Knit Pajama Pant – Gilligan & O’Malley. These pants are truly a dream. Are you noticing a trend here? Gilligan & O’Malley has this comfort stuff pretty well figured out!

Pajama Pants

The comfort they provide and the breathability as well, had me buying a pair of these in every color. I really couldn’t help myself. And you know you’ll be sore, crampy and what not at the hospital so just go ahead and treat yo self with these babies.

Slip on Socks

Socks/Slippers
Call me weird, I’ll take it, but I’m really not one for wearing socks or slippers. I wear mostly ballet flats and I just like to slip them on as is but for the hospital, socks and slippers are a must. I’m not hating, what-so-ever, on hospital cleaning crews, but come on, you don’t know what’s been on those floors! (or maybe you do) so the feet shall be covered! And I picked up some cute little socks from Target to cover me here as well.

Specially-Made Hospital Gown
This was another first for me when it comes to my hospital stay and I was so excited! Pink is so me and I also happen to love polka dots, oh so very much.

Annie and Isabel

I know some people may think that having a special hospital gown is unnecessary but hey it adds to my excitement and I don’t know if we’ll be having another little one so I just want to treat myself and have a girly-unique-and-not-previously-worn gown for my baby’s arrival!

Annie and Isabel

By the way I got this adorable gown from Annie and Isabel, two sisters that also happen to be registered nurses that started up their darling shop, Annie & Isabel over 7 years ago. They make beautiful gowns that are not just for births too! Besides our beautiful mamas, women who have cancer, radiation treatments, and any hospital stay enjoy their designer hospital gowns. I absolutely loved wearing mine!

Belly Support
For my last two pregnancies, I didn’t actually give any belly support products a try, but this pregnancy I have done and am doing some experimenting with them.

Belly Bandit

For the hospital I packed a Belly Bandit in hopes of having more tummy support. I remember last year my belly just felt so weird those first few weeks because there was no more baby and my muscles were taking their sweet time pulling back together. This time I went to the hospital prepared with this pretty supportive band to not only add support but also get my belly back to where it was pre-baby faster! I’ll keep you updated as to how that goes in later posts just in case ya wanna know!

Undergarments
Although I like to wear nursing tanks, I also packed a few nursing bras just in case! And I just so happened to pack some You! Lingerie ones because I love their pops of color and cute feminine attention to details! I mean seriously how often do you find nursing bras like these?!

Nursing Bras

Now for panties, I packed boy shorts. For full coverage bottoms, they’re my style-go-to and I don’t want to talk too much into details, but you must know you’ll be needing a lot of coverage down there right after baby. The ones I picked up for this hospital stay happen to be Gilligan & O’Malley too! Surprise surprise lol

Going Home Outfit

Going Home Outfit
Let’s not forget about your outfit for going home! You may not be feeling so glamorous at this point and that’s totally ok! If you prefer to just wear some comfy sweats on the way there’s nothing wrong with that my dear! I plan on wearing a cozy sweater, over a nursing tank, and if I feel up for it wearing my ASOS maternity jeggings with some comfy ballet flats.

Beauty Essentials

Let’s Talk Beauty
My favorite thing to have on hand at the hospital (or anywhere) is a great face moisturizer and definitely dry shampoo! Cannot live with out that! Drybar by the way makes the best one ever and trust me I’ve tried so many! Any-hoo here’s just a quick list of what you should include: Brush, Makeup, Cleanser, Lotion, Moisturizer, Dry Shampoo, ToothBrush/Toothpaste, Deodorant.

Baby Clothes

All Things Baby: Here are just a few ideas for packing: Baby Gowns, Onesies, Blankets, Mittens, Socks, Burp Cloths, Caps, Car Seat, Pacifiers (just in case) and Poppy/Nursing-type Pillows.

Other Essentials: Camera/SD Card/Charger, Notebook/Pen, Cell Phone Chargers, Personal Pillow (if you’re like me and hate thin pillows) and Personal Blanket

I hope you enjoyed learning about all the things I packed in my hospital bag. I discovered My Petunia Pickle Bottom bag through my amazing registry site Gugu Guru because it matches my personal style.

The Silicone Bottle You NEED

by Christine Swearingen Leave a Comment

It is natural for expectant and new parents to be worried about the feeding experience. Breastfeeding? Bottle-feeding? Pumping? Add in the potential for a hybrid feeding process and new parents can feel completely overwhelmed. Nanobébé’s Flexy Silicone Bottle will immediately make this process seamless for new and experienced parents alike.

The Most Advanced Silicone Bottle EVER

The Flexy Bottle is a total game-changer. Nanobébé studied every critique of current silicone bottles on the market and designed features that solve each issue. These advancements provide the ultimate feeding experience with mom-like softness, a stable base that won’t tip over, and a non-collapsible nipple for the perfect latch parents can trust. Its genius anti-colic system is the first of its kind with a 360° triple-vented design.

But what do REAL Moms have to say? How does Nanobébé fit seamlessly into their lives?

Patricia is a working mom (a teacher!) who says “This bottle has become my favorite! It is so easy to assemble and holds up to 9 ounces of milk. The softness of this bottle gives baby a familiar feeling, which is very important for me when I’m away from him. And the best part of all is that he can hold it all by himself.”

Madison’s little lady loves her Nanobébé bottles, too!

Sabrina is an experienced mom getting ready to welcome baby #2. Listen as she discusses how her husband is supporting her on this journey, and you may notice her Flexy is consistently making a cameo. “He has allowed me to bring the joy back in this time around… It’s helped me realize how excited I am that we get to have this parenting journey again as the parents that we are now, the partners that we are now… He’s really allowed me to be excited about motherhood again, because it’s so so special.”

In a world of complicated decisions, Nanobébé is the simplest choice you’ll make when it comes to the world of infant feeding.

Packing your Hospital Bag?

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

The number 1 question we get from expectant parents as their due date nears is “What should I pack in my hospital bag?” You have enough to worry about when you’re welcoming your little one. It’s important to get the right items in your bag, but the packing process shouldn’t be overwhelming. Let’s go through some essentials as well as some of those items that you might forget!

Do I need special clothing?

Universal Labor & Delivery Gown | Grey Heather– Kindred Bravely

When you settle into the hospital to start your labor and delivery process, you will most likely be handed a gown to wear. Whether you are ready for a vaginal birth or walking in for a planned C-Section, these gowns are pretty standard. They allow for the needed wires, tubes, epidurals, etc. to be connected and allow your healthcare team access to all parts of your body. Bringing your own hospital gown may add a personal touch to your delivery day. We love Kindred Bravely’s line of Labor and Delivery Gowns.

After helping thousands of moms prepare for this special day, we can also say that simple ways to make your hospital stay cozier can always give you a little peace of mind. A great loungewear set, slippers, and slip-proof socks will also make your time in the hospital a bit comfier.

If you’re planning to breastfeed, you may also consider bringing some clothing to make the process simpler. You will be nursing around the clock, so easy acess is key! We’re huge fans of comfortable nursing bras and tanktops for hospital days. They allow for hands-free nursing as you’re learning how to meet your little one’s hungry tummy. We also love keeping a tank on so you can easily add extra layers (like a zip up sweatshirt) as needed. Check out the Larken X Bra and Kindred Bravely Nursing Tanks for comfy hospital clothing as well as far into motherhood.

Throughout your pregnancy journey, you may have found leggings to be the most comfortable item. Throw a pair in your hospital bag, which can offer gentle, postpartum compression. They are also nursing-friendly, keeping your core supported throughout the early days in the hospital. We love Belly Bandit’s Mother Tucker Leggings (seriously, how great is this name?!).

What about items to help me heal?

In the first few days postpartum, your body is going through a deep recovery. While the hospital will have everything you ‘need,’ there are some better options out there that are easy to slip into your hospital bag.

This recovery can sometimes be a bit messy. We spend so much time and energy learning how to care for our new bundle, that we often forget to take care of ourselves. One thing we love is the New Mom Skincare Set from Earth Mama. We also love Earth Mama’s Nipple Butter and Perineal Balm. Pro-tip: The Nipple Butter is also great for chapped lips, and since the hospital is super dry, a hospital must-have!

A belly band can also be something that supports your core while you heal. If you ask for one at the hospital, they will usually provide you with one. If you’d like to bring your own, Belly Bandit has some great options.

Other things I might forget?

Two things people tend to forget: A cell phone charger and your paperwork/health insurance card for the hospital. Put both of these someplace so you won’t forget. Most hospitals will send you home with quite a bit of information, so you may even want to bring a folder to store everything for later. And don’t forget that cell phone charger! You will be snapping lots of photos throughout your time in the hospital.

Looking for an all-in-one hospital bag solution?

There are two types of moms we work with – those who like to pack their own hospital bag and those who prefer to have it arrive at their home pre-packed with excellent, non-toxic products. Baby Boldly Birth Bags are for both! Their bags come in a variety of sizes, from ‘Minimalist’ to ‘Fully Prepared.’ Full of great items that you may forget, you will have plenty of toiletries, hair ties, and the wonderful ‘grippy socks!’ Designed ‘by mamas, for mamas’ they even offer a Pack-it-Yourself Bag, great for experienced moms who know exactly what they’ll need.

Real Mom Reviews: Nanobébé Flexy Silicone Bottle

by Abby Ludwig Leave a Comment

Your little one is about to arrive and you’re looking to be fully stocked for feeding. Unsure about your feeding path, you feel that it’s best to have some bottles ready to go. How do you select the best bottle for your needs? While the pieces and parts of many bottles may leave you feeling confused, we want to make sure you’ve seen the newest option from Nanobébé. Made from a soft, mom-like silicone, this bottle is easy to use and even simpler to clean. It has a non-collapsing nipple and a very stable base. We reached out to our team of moms to see how the Flexy bottle stood up to everyday use.

Heather

“The Nanobébé bottles are a household fave for our family! They are so easy to use, clean, and put together. My favorite part is that they don’t tip over during late-night feedings on our nursery chair because of the big base. Our baby prefers them over the other bottles we have and so do we!”

Haley

“The Flexy Silicone Nanobébé baby bottle is by far my son’s favorite. The ultra-soft silicone makes breastfeeding and bottle feeding nearly indistinguishable, and the bottle has a triple-vented nipple to prevent colic.  The shape is familiar for babies and easy to hold. He latches on wonderfully every time and I love to bottle feed him with this line!

Although not the bottle, I’d also recommend the pacifiers from Nanobébé. The flexy pacifiers are my son’s favorite. He is only one month so many of them fall out of his mouth easily, but this pacifier is easier for him to latch onto even when he turns his head to the side. It’s one of the few that gets him to calm down.”

Jade

“We love love love the Nanobébé bottles!! Especially when it comes to cleaning! Bottle cleaning after a long day is always dreaded, but these bottles have so few parts it makes it not so bad! Also, they can stand on almost anything! I put them down on the arm of the chair as I’m about to feed my little guy and it doesn’t fall over as I rock the chair back to sit down. I really can’t say enough good things about them and choose them over every other bottle we’ve tried!”

Leah

No description available.

“We tried a few different bottles before I returned to work and the Nanobébé Flexy bottle was the only bottle my babe would take without gulping air. These bottles were an easy transition and didn’t create nipple confusion. The soft silicone makes it feel more like mom vs. plastic or glass bottles too. The bottles are easy to clean and can hook up right to my Spectra flanges. We recently bought the handles that fit right onto the bottles and love them also. The only setback to this bottle is that the silicone takes longer to warm up breastmilk. I usually heat the milk up in a breastmilk bag first to make it faster!” *We did notice that heating up silicone bottles tends to take longer than heating plastic bottles, due to their thick, natural material.

Emmy

“I was skeptical about the soft silicone bottle from Nanobébé with my little ones. Some silicone is too soft and squishy, but boy was I wrong! I love how they feel in my hand and they are always stable when I set them down on the edge of the couch. My babies both take formula easily from these bottles, and I love that even the big 9-ounce bottle doesn’t feel too big. The big bottles also came with the slow flow nipple, which was nice so I didn’t have to worry about finding the right flow nipple for my newborns. The only downside is that I do have small hands and the wide base makes them a little awkward to hold. After the first few feedings, it wasn’t such a big deal anymore, and I actually found that my baby was able to hold the bottle by himself much earlier than other bottles.”

Lexie

No description available.

“I love these bottles! I’ve used many other brands and these are by far my favorite. They are so easy to clean and assemble. I love that there aren’t a ton of pieces like other bottles. The silicone makes them very easy to grip and the shape is great for him learning to hold it by himself!”

As you can see, our real moms just can’t get enough of the Nanobébé Flexy Bottles. The bottles are modern, convenient, and make feeding so much simpler.

Crane’s Select Cordless Breast Pump: Our Village Weighs In

by Abby Ludwig Leave a Comment

The company behind our go-to humidifiers and air purifiers has allowed members from our Gugu Village to test their Select Cordless Electric Breast Pump. We had a number of new moms try out this pump. Some first-time moms, others are on baby #2 or #3, but we got lots of great feedback on this small, yet powerful pump.

Looking for the Deluxe Cordless Pump Review? Check it out here!

Jessica D.

I received this pump to try out and I honestly have nothing but good things to say. I love how I can take it anywhere with me because of how small and light it is. I had zero problems cleaning the pieces and it’s really easy to connect all the parts. I like the fact the flange has silicone to help create a suction but I do have a hard time trying to see if my nipple is inside the flange. Also, the pump is louder than other pumps I’ve tried but not loud enough to wake your little one if you pump in the room. Overall, I’ve really enjoyed using it!!

Haylee S.

The crane pump is more compact and easier to clean than the pump I was using before. The flanges are silicone which is a great feature and a lot more comfortable. The actual machine itself is very compact and easy for traveling and for on-the-go moms. I plan on bringing it with me on an upcoming trip. Overall great pump- wish I had this one when I first started.

Katie C.

I was given the opportunity to try the Crane Select Cordless Electric Breast Pump. This is a nice little pump with some great features. The pump is lightweight and rechargeable which I really like! The silicone inserts make pumping really comfortable once everything is all set up. That said, I did find it a bit awkward to get the flanges on when double pumping and using a hands-free bra. Because the silicone is opaque and there is only one piece for the flange/diaphragm/valve of the pump, it is hard to see if your nipples are in the right place. Having it all one piece also made it hard (and sometimes a bit messy) when finished pumping and trying to clean up. I found the suction/my output with this pump was good – I might have had high expectations from other reviews who felt like this pump was way better than other options. I think the suction is very good, especially for a portable pump, but it didn’t increase my output vs my pump in style. I like that there are two expression phases, but the pump doesn’t switch itself from one to the other and doesn’t remember previous settings. Increasing/decreasing the pump speed causes the pump to pause so the transitions aren’t as seamless as I would prefer.

Overall, I love how portable this pump is and it would be really great for traveling and the price point is great for someone looking to pump sometimes. That said I’m not sure I would love it for my full-time working – 3 pumps a day/5 days a week – pump, but I could be biased since I’ve used two different Medela pumps for 15+ months of pumping.

Brittany V.

I’ve been using this breast pump for two weeks and I’m really impressed. I’ve tried a few different ones now and I love that this one is smaller and that it’s cordless. It makes it really easy to take with me and use anywhere. This one is comfortable and works well. The bottles that come with it are of really great quality too. They’re a good size and shape and feel heavier like a nicer quality than a cheap bottle. It’s really easy to pump and then switch the top to have a nipple and use the bottle too. I’d definitely recommend it to someone looking for a portable/cordless pump.

Thank you to Crane-USA for allowing our moms to test out this awesome pump!

As an added bonus, the bottles are stackable for easy storage.

Nanobebe Flexy Silicone Baby Bottle – $12.99

Coming in at the largest size, the Flexy Silicone Bottle still offers that anti-colic nipple. It features three vents to keep the nipple from collapsing while your baby is eating. That way you can chase your toddler, carry your baby, and not worry about your diaper bag. This one is roomy, with lots of outer and inner pockets for easy organization on the go.

Nanobebe Travel Cooler – $10.99

Travel Cooler

While not a full diaper bag, the Nanobebe Travel Cooler is definitely a bag you want to have on hand. August is National Breastfeeding Month, a time when many parenting and baby organizations celebrate the importance of breastfeeding. Our spin on it, as per usual, is to bring you some of the latest and greatest gear and products for a nursing mama and baby. Let’s jump right in!

For Mama

Nunona Cashew Confetti – $35.00

National Breastfeeding Month suggestion: Nunona Cashew Confetti

We wanted to kick off our National Breastfeeding Month suggestions with something for moms. A new mom who is also breastfeeding needs extra energy to create milk and care for baby and herself. These plant-based treats are delicious and help make quality breast milk. One sleeve contains four of these yummy balls, which is the recommended amount for a day. The package contains enough sleeves for a week’s worth of super powered milk creation.

Earth Mama Organic Nipple Butter – $13.00

Breastfeeding Month suggestion: Earth Mama Organic Nipple Butter

Sometimes breastfeeding can be hard on a new mama’s nipples. Earth Mama Organic Nipple Butter will rescue you, returning your nipples to their happy place. Our favorite part about this handy stuff? It’s non-GMO verified, so you don’t have to wash it off before your next nursing session.

For Nursing Sessions

For Pumping and Storage

Nanobebe Breastmilk Storage Bags – $9.99

Breastfeeding Month suggestion: nanobebe Breastmilk Storage Bags

The next two suggestions for National Breastfeeding Month are from nanobebe for those mamas who are pumping and storing milk Breastmilk. Bags that lay flat?! Not only does this feel like a genius idea, but it’s actually better for the milk. It will thaw up to two times faster which reduces the amount of bacteria growth while also preserving nutrients. On top of being BPA and Phthalate free, these bags boast a double zipper to ensure you won’t have a heartbreaking spill.

Nanobebe Milk Organizer – $9.99

National Breastfeeding Month suggestion: nanobebe Milk Organizer

What’s better than breastmilk bags that lay flat? An organizer to place those flat bags in your freezer, of course! This innovative design will save space and time. You can organize your bags from oldest on the top to newest on the bottom so you don’t have to root around in your freezer to find which one to use next! Coaching You Through the Fourth Trimester

Personalized Support for the 5 Biggest Baby Feeding Questions

Thank you to Emily Sylvester, MS, RD, LDN, IBCLC, and Founder of NurtureTalk for this guest post!

More and more moms are turning to social media as a hub of information or a source of social support in pregnancy or through infant feeding. I mean how cool is it to have millions of other moms, who have real life mamahood running through their blood, available right at your fingertips! But let’s be honest mama, sometimes it can seem like every other response you get expresses a different opinion with comments swinging all over the place. How many times have you read through a mommy social media post and left feeling more confused than when you started? As great as it is to get so many answers to what seems like your endless list of baby feeding questions, and have a posse of moms to lean on, you should never be left wondering what is right for YOU.

So what if mastering baby feeding was so much easier? This is where a baby feeding coach comes in.

I’m sure you know you can find a coach for anything these days -weight loss, money making, spiritual mastery, even bringing your sex life to the next level (yup I said it). Soooo it is time you gained this type of coaching power for the most stressful and unpredictable time in your life-birth and feeding baby.

NurtureTalk is a one-of-a-kind feeding support service giving moms unlimited access to a dietitian (baby feeding/mama nutrition expert) who is a board-certified lactation consultant (breastfeeding expert). Your NurtureTalk coach is there to coach you through any AND every feeding problem in your mama journey.

What is a baby feeding coach?

Every mom who subscribes gets a coach that is an expert in all baby feeding. Your NurtureTalk coach is there to help you navigate through any and every feeding problem in your mama journey.

Every mom deserves unbiased support from an expert who gets what you’re going through. And, call us crazy, but we believe you should get that support exactly when you need it so you can spend less time worrying and more time cuddling your bundle of joy.

Every single pregnancy is different and unique to a mama and her baby. That variation in experience is one of the things that makes motherhood so beautiful, and is also what makes it so challenging. What worked for your sister, mom, best friend, or even you two years ago may not be what works for you now. So, whether you are a first-time or veteran parent, coaching can take away the worry.

What if you want to formula feed or are not quite sure about breastfeeding?

Not quite sure? Well, we agree it is oftentimes forgotten in the baby feeding space that there are many paths to get to your feeding goals. Yes, at NurtureTalk we do love breastfeeding! This is because breastfeeding protects the health of you and your baby and is a beautiful opportunity to bond. We have seen NurtureTalk work to help moms achieve their breastfeeding goals even if they are not sure. Studies suggest that moms using NurtureTalk for feeding support are more likely to be breastfeeding at 3 months and less likely to have introduced formula at 3 months than moms who aren’t.

But, while we’re here, let’s clear something up. The number one goal with NurtureTalk coaching is always to feed your baby, keep them growing, and meet your needs as a new mama. Because if you feel informed in your choices, you will have all the mama power in the world. As registered dietitians, we have all the experience and knowledge in the world to advise on mixed formula and breastfeeding and formula choices.

Baby Feeding Q&A with NurtureTalk Founder Emily Sylvester, MS, RD, LDN, IBCLC

Here are five of the most common (and real life) questions we get from real moms navigating their feeding journeys and quick tips to help tackle them.

Note: Questions and answers have been edited for length and clarity.

Q1: I feel like in the first two days of feeding, I let her latch more shallowly and am now struggling to correct some bad behavior. Any suggestions for getting a deeper latch?

Things to look for in your latch. If you don’t see these, go ahead and re-latch! Corner of the mouth is “o” shaped. Now “v” or “I” shaped Nose starts out across from the nipple when latching so baby gets a big cheeseburger biteLips are flanged out (if the rest of the latch feels okay, feel free to flip them with your finger!)There is no clicking sound or puckering of the cheek when sucking and swallowingBaby is more on top of you than you are over them.

Q3: Should I wake him from sleep if it’s time to feed? He takes longgggg naps/sleeps. And how often? Every 2 hours?

Some babies are just especially sleepy!  In the beginning it can be advisable to wake him every twoto four hours for feeding. If your baby is falling asleep too soon during feeds you can undress him forfeeds, change his diaper before feeds or in between feeding the left and the right breast, or tickle orplay with his feet.

Q3: Can you tell me more about cluster feeding?

Cluster feeding is a time when your baby wants lots of short feeds over a few hours. It’s exhausting but normal and will often happen in the early days of breastfeeding. There is no particular reason why babies cluster feed, but some experts believe it might be a way to boost mom’s milk supply.
5 Tips To make cluster feedings easier: Relax your baby’s leadEat well Try to rest in the early part of the day to prepareStay hydrated! This is thirsty work Get as much partner and family support as you can
It’s exhausting now, but you can look forward to a sleepy, settled baby after feedings are done being clustered.

Q4: Is there any way to know if my supply is “right” and that my baby is getting enough milk?

Keeping count of wet and soiled diapers is the gold standard for assessing your baby’s intake! Once your milk comes in, you can expect around five or more wet diapers per day and at least three stools. If your baby has fewer than expected wet or soiled diapers or urine darker than a pale yellow, it might be time to follow up with an IBCLC or medical provider.

Q5: Is it true that formula is harder for my baby to digest? What’s your advice on transitioning onto a new formula – would you mix the two formulas or switch cold-turkey?

Breast milk is in fact easier for your baby to digest because it’s made specifically for your baby’s body.
I would not suggest mixing the two formulas. Either fill half of the day’s bottles with the old formula and use the new formula for the other half, or just start the new formula! Whichever way you choose to do it, it will likely take up to a week to see a difference, so I would stick with it unless there are some serious side effects. We want to avoid changing formulas too much too soon to see if there are any changes in tolerance and digestion.

If you have questions about feeding your baby and feel like you don’t know who to ask or what to trust. NurtureTalk can help! And unlimited means unlimited, so send that 2AM text. It’s ever too early, we swear! Visit www.nurturetalk.com or add NurtureTalk on Instagram (@nurturetalk) for more!
