Loulou Lollipop: With their spring line on the horizon (launches later this month), one of our go-to companies for teethers and pacifier clips can help with bed and bathtime too! Known for its high quality products, Loulou Lollipop’s bath towels will extend long past baby’s first year and their crib sheet patterns are to die for!

This stroller is also compatible with a number of infant car seats making it an easy-to-use travel system.

Miniware: Eco-friendly and stylish tableware for baby is a reality! We love the look of Miniware’s dish sets, which will help baby learn how to feed him/herself. Plus, most of the dishes are convertible in some way, meaning they will continue to grow with your kids as they age. As an added bonus, Miniware’s products are all dishwasher safe, which is great for any on-the-go parent!

TLC Squared Through The Years Collection: As a new parent, you always have the greatest ambitions to write everything down- first tooth, first steps, first words, but in reality there just aren’t enough hours in the day to get this task accomplished! Breaking down exciting childhood memories one event at a time, these gorgeous and easy to fill out books are a great way to capture these special days for your kiddo.

The world of baby/toddler gear is always introducing cool new baby items! Our job at Gugu Guru is to help you sort through all the ‘fluff’ and figure out what items could be a great pick for your lifestyle and taste. Each week we will be sharing some items that we’ve recently added to Gugu Guru. Some of these items are brand new to the market and others are oldies but goodies that you may not know about. For loads of our other favorites, please check out our Explore page, which is constantly being updated.

Nomi Highchair: After seeing this highchair for the first time at the Chicago Baby Show last August, we were blown away by how innovative and modern it is. The seat is completely customizable and will truly grow with your child (holds up to 330 lbs.) We also love that the Nomi has taken a family-centered approach to meal time for baby and beyond!

Gabri Isle Outerwear: The weather has been downright brutal in parts of the US this winter. We are constantly trying to find cold-weather solutions to both keep baby warm and get some needed fresh air. We love the Mini Loke Thermo Suit (available in ‘Deep Navy’ and ‘Dusty Purple’) as a multi-season solution to the elements. We think this suit is especially great for urban families who need to keep their little ones warm as they walk throughout the city.

Skip Hop Playview Expandable Enclosure: Featuring six adorable cloud mesh panels, the Skip Hop enclosure is a perfect safe space to put baby down when you need to give your arms (or back) a break. Easily customizable, you can choose to use as a freestanding play space or against the wall (mounts included) as a room divider. Plus, there is a clip on activity surface to grow with your little one.

Press Pause Project: Press Pause Project products are formulated with Cannabidiol (commonly known as CBD), which is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in the cannabis or marijuana plant. Press Pause Project uses CBD in the line to help alleviate problems many new parents face; stress, anxiety, depression, pain, etc. Specifically geared towards women, they have formulated 100% organic creams, oils, and capsules that will help new moms and old moms alike! Plus, as they continue to grow, they are invested in giving back to women-based organizations.

Comfort Quest with Shenae Grimes-Beech Part 1: Nursing Bra

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

One of the most commonly asked questions in our Gugu Village is, “What is the most comfortable nursing bra?” We decided to team up with our girl, celeb new mama Shenae Grimes-Beech, to test out some of the leading bras and try to get to an answer. Here Shenae shares with us her pros and cons for each of the bras she tried.

Cosabella Womens’ “Never Say Never” Mommie Soft Bra

Pro: So far these are my favorite nursing bras for feeling like yourself because they are sexy and lacy but still serve their purpose.

Con: This is hardly a con but you will likely have to remove the tags because I found them to be scratchy.

H&M MAMA Nursing Bras

Pro: The H&M lace trimmed bras were my Cosabella bras before I had my Cosabella bras. They come in multi packs so they’re very affordable and they’re cute. The v neck sleep nursing bras were the first ones I bought and I still love them. Again, you can buy multipacks that are affordable and the stretchy fit feels almost like workout wear so everything is held in place really nicely. They’re comfy enough to sleep in because they don’t have a back clasp and the v neck cut makes feeding super easy with no nursing clasps to deal with!

Con: They’re quite size-specific so as your boobs fluctuate throughout the day with milk production, they may feel too small to contain yourself and because they’re quite limited in material, they don’t fit breast pads as well as the Cosabella bras.

Kindred Bravely French Terry Racerback Nursing Sleep Bra for Maternity/Breastfeeding

Pro: The bra with slight padding and a clasp is VERY comfy. I also love their racerback, v neck sleeping bra because it is so comfortable. It is probably the most comfortable nursing bra I have so it’s perfect for sleeping and the v neck is my preferred way to nurse anyway. (I very rarely use the nursing clasps on any of my bras because it’s just easier and quicker to slide it to the side and get feeding than fumbling with the clasps.)

Con: I found the Kindred Bravely bra to be a bit oversized for me in terms of fit. It also has slight padding, which I find can create an awkward shape of my boobs. (My nursing boobs are better than ever so I don’t feel like any padding is necessary anyway – lol!)

BRAVADO! DESIGNS Women’s Body Silk Seamless Nursing Bra and Maternity Bra

Pro: The BRAVADO! DESIGNS line is extremely comfortable and very cute.

Con: Similar to the Kindred Bravely bra, I find the cut and slight padding to create an awkward shape.

Belabumbum Lotus Nursing Bra

Pro: This one is cute AND, more importantly, comfortable.

Con: It’s not my favorite to sleep in because of the clasp at the back.

Real Mom Review: Evenflo EveryStage DLX

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

One of the most trusted brands in baby, Evenflo, recently introduced its newest car seat – the EveryStage DLX. The EveryStage DLX acts as an infant car seat, convertible seat and booster seat.   This car seat is ideal for a minimalist parent who wants to be one and done by choosing a high-quality car seat that can be used safely for 10 years. Evenflo generously offered Gugu Guru an EveryStage DLX car seat for review. We had a real mom, Alexandria Mooney, test one out with her adorable two year old daughter – here’s her take on why the Evenflo EveryStage DLX gets 5 stars as a car seat!

This has to be hands-down the simplest, easy-to-install car seat ever made. My husband, who’s always complaining what a nightmare it is to move the car seats around told me point blank, “Go order 2 more of these I literally installed it incredibly tight in less than 30 seconds.” He’s sold, and so am I!

Not only is it ridiculously easy to install with the EasyClick latch system, I love how the headrest and straps are easily adjustable with an easy up-and-down lever behind the headrest — no need to take the car seat apart to fish straps in and out of holes when you need to adjust the strap height.

My two year old told me it’s comfy and gets excited to ride in her new car seat, so if she’s sold too, it’s a win all around in our book!

More details on the EveryStage DLX car seat:

  • For Children 4-120 lbs
  • EasyClick Installation
  • Custom Cradled Fit
  • Proudly Built in America

Meet the Mompreneur: Sahra Cahoon of the Mama App

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

Motherhood can be a long and winding journey, and often our own self-care as mothers can get pushed aside or lost; we’re excited to introduce you to new app for mothers that’s changing the way we take care of ourselves (spoiler alert: and thus, change the way we help our families, too!). Maven Mamas is dedicated to helping mothers on their self-care journey; their app, Mama, sends daily affirmations and encouragement directly to your phone! With the simplicity of a push notification the Mama app offers a simple encouragement each day. Behind each notification is a beautifully designed wisdom with additional self-care empowering resources for mamas. We love that! We’re excited to introduce you to the founder of the Mama app, Sahra Cahoon, as she shares about starting the app and why she’s so passionate about helping moms.

1. How did you decide to launch your business? Tell us a little more about Mama, the app.

Honestly, we needed Mama the app in our own lives (and we both use it)! We were both running businesses and parenting plus trying to figure out how to have any form of self-care and all the while being one another’s confidants and cheer leaders. “Can’t someone just make an app that reminds me that I’m doing a amazing job, that I’m a rock star, and that motherhood is hard and amazing at the same time, and it’s ok to admit that???” This was the conception of Maven Mamas. Two exhausted, passionate, entrepreneurial mamas got together just to have coffee to catch up on life – and two weeks later the plans were coming together for an app to support mamas and remind them how beautiful, powerful and amazing they are. We floated the idea by a few friends and they said, yes, do it! And so we did.

2. You get to see a lot of affirmations and self-care tips every day, what’s one piece of wisdom that really resonated with you personally?

My favorite piece of wisdom is one that I wrote before our third daughter was born, we had no idea how much more true it would become in our home.  “embrace the chaos” Sometimes as a mom, wife, entrepreneur, woman, I get stuck in wanting things a certain way or thinking that my house will never again be clean and orderly.  We a one month old baby and a 3 year old who has all the sass our lives are never anything but organized (or not so organized) chaos.  It is messy and beautiful.  Instead of constantly fighting against it I am truly working on allowing it to just be.

3. If a new mama could say just one mantra to herself each morning to help her brave the journey of motherhood, what do you suggest that mantra be?

Breathe, you can do this, just breathe. Our breath is essential for thriving in motherhood. It not only allows that pause that can be exactly what I need in the middle of the chaos. It helps with creating space when things feel overwhelming or out of control. I realize after the last month of not sleeping just how sleep deprivation messes with the mind and when i can remember to stop and take a deep breath, I am less reactive, more present and don’t have to apologize so much because i am just more connected and kind. I also use Brene Brown’s: don’t shrink, don’t puff up, just stand your sacred ground as a mantra when i am going into a group or PTO meeting.  It really helps me stay true to myself and not get so wrapped up in the drama of preschool parents.

4. How do you balance work and family?

I don’t, I gave up trying to balance it around the birth of our second daughter. If home life is in balance work life is likely out of wack and visa versa.  The thing is at our house we want our girls to know that they are loved and we have time for them.  We eat dinner together almost every night around the table with no technology. Sometimes our toddler watches PBS so that I can do a conference call – or write a Q&A for an awesome blog partnership- sometimes i have to wake at 5am to get started before the mom day begins and sometimes I have to skip family dinner to go to hot yoga so that I can stay sane.  There are weeks when I travel or my husband is working on a project 10+ hours a day and there are weeks where we visit the museum take a family hike and then make homemade ice cream.  Maybe the balance can be seen when looking at the years instead of the days.

5. What’s the best part of being a mompreneur?

The opportunity to create.  I love that there are no limits, we dream up new ideas and then figure out how to make them a reality.  Working with other mamas, the love and support that mompreneurs show for one another and the incredible things being brought to life from apps to hands-free breast pumps, women are amazing and powerful – including my badass business partner Christy who has such a huge heart and serious business savvy, she is stunning.

Cold Weather Gift Guide

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

It seems as though the colder weather is here to stay for most of the country for a while, so we rounded up some of our most favorite cold weather baby and kid items which would make great gifts for birthdays, showers, or as a treat for yourself! Read on to learn more about our cold weather gift guide. What are your cold weather baby must haves?

CubCoats: In true toddler fashion, many toddlers seem to be winter-coat resistant when the temps drop. It can be a real struggle to get them into anything warm, but we just may have found the solution! We’re obsessed with CubCoats, which are a fantastic gift for any toddler or kid in your life. CubCoats are a 2-in-1 stuffed animal which transforms into a super soft hoodie! CubCoats are made from durable and super soft material for cuddly comfort, and they are ethically sourced, double lined, made with premium materials. Plus, as parents, we love that they are machine washable and dryer safe. They’re ideal for all seasons of the year, as they aren’t too heavy, but just the perfect weight for warmth in the winter months and cool enough for spring and summer nights at the beach. They come in a huge variety of styles, so you’re sure to find one which fits your little one’s current animal obsession! Your toddler will love snuggling their soft stuffed animal, and when needed, their faithful friend will help keep them warm too. Win win!

Crane USA’s Drop Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier: In the winter months, with the heat running, a house can dry out very quickly, which can in turn, lead to dry skin on babies and kids (and adults!). The solution? A Crane Cool Mist Humidifier for your little one’s nursery or bedroom. The Crane Drop Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier is so easy to use, as it does not require a filter and is super easy to clean – meaning you don’t have to remember to buy anything else, just simply clean and you’re good to go. As parents, we appreciate the whisper quiet voltage, so it won’t wake anyone up when it turns on at night; speaking of, the Crane Drop humidifier can run for up to 24 hours and has an auto shut off, so if you’re in a sleep deprived state, it’s just one less thing to worry about. Plus, the Drop humidifiers have an anti-microbial base to reduce mold and mildew, so there is no need to worry about mold or mildew in your baby humidifier – and most importantly, they come in a huge variety of colors, so you are sure to find one to match your baby’s nursery (or get one for every room of the house!). Check out why we think Crane USA is a nursery must-have.

Kickee Pants: If you’re looking for something deliciously warm and adorable for babies this cold weather season, look no further than Kickee Pants. We love Kickee Pants for their adorable clothing in modern prints, soft fabrics, and lots of gender neutral options, but we’re especially loving their quilted hoodie coverall for the cold winter months. Their super sweet and super soft quilted coveralls feature a sherpa-lined hood with animal ears, for extra cuteness factor. The coveralls are insulated, but breathable enough to keep your little one from overheating, while still protecting them from the cold! The quilted bamboo helps to regulate temperature in all climates, so you can easily travel with the Kickee Pants coveralls, too. If you’re heading out with baby in tow and worried about the low temps, rest easy knowing the Kickee Pants coveralls will keep your little one warm and cozy, without getting overheated, and still keep their cuteness factor in tact, too! Check out two of our faves, the Quilted Hoodie Coverall with Sherpa-Lined Hood in Lucky Cat/Seagrass and the Quilted Hoodie Coverall with Sherpa-Lined Hood in Stone with London Dogs.

Fridababy’s NoseFrida the Snotsucker: Winter and cold weather tend to come with a lot of congestion for babies’ little noses! It can be tricky for little congested babies to breathe properly, which can cause them to sleep less, and become fussy! Luckily, the NoseFrida by Fridababy is here to the rescue. The NoseFrida is a pediatrician endorsed nasal aspirator which uses use parents’ own suction to safely and effectively clear stuffy noses. The NosaFrida comes with a Natural Sea Salt and purified water specially formulated for small noses which will assist in removing all of the congestion along with the suction. This cold weather must-have items for families may seem like a wild idea, sucking your own baby’s snot, however, it is super hygienic and the disposable filters are clinically proven to prevent the transfer of mucus or bacterial germs to the snot sucker when clearing stuffy noses. Plus, it’s dishwasher safe for easy clean up! Check out the New Baby Care Kit from FridaBaby, which includes the SnotSucker.

Thank you to CubCoats and Kickee Pants for making this post possible – we are so appreciative!

Real Moms Review: Eco-Friendly Mochi Teethers

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

Japanese company, The People Toy Co., is known for creating innovative and fun products for babies and children. The Mochi line of teethers and toys are comprised of 51% food-grade rice and are free of harmful adhesives and paints. You can’t get more eco-friendly than that. As our Real Moms discovered, Mochi Toys provided hours of fun and teething relief!

From the minute we took the toys out of the package, my 9mo daughter favored them over the other toys in her basket. She was immediately drawn to the horn and loved surprising herself when she figured out how it makes noise. And the teething ring is also a big hit – the textures are a nice added touch. Both toys are easy to grip and chew, and they look nice too – I love the muted colors as opposed to loud/bright/primary like so many products out there. I’ll definitely be buying these as baby shower gifts and recommending them to friends! They are perfect for teething babies and I really love that they are made of rice and completely safe.
– Christine C., Mom to 7 Month-Old Daughter

When I received the Mochi teethers and started to read about the company I was very excited about the safe, eco-friendly teethers.  My son is 11 months old and is a late teether so he is constantly putting everything in his mouth. It was a relief to know that I could trust these toys in his mouth.  I was expecting to receive just a basic teething ring and wasn’t sure how interested he would be in it but I was excited when we got a trumpet that makes noise when you blow into it and a teething necklace.  At first, I was more excited about the trumpet than Mikey. When I first showed him how it worked he was actually afraid of the noise of the trumpet. However, after about three days of slowly reintroducing it, he warmed up to it and started playing with it himself. He is now having fun with it as a toy. -Denalee M., Mom to 13 Month-Old Son

We were generously gifted the People Toy Company, Mochi trumpet and building blocks to review and our little girl adores them.  In general, we try to get more green and less plastic toys so we really appreciate that the People Toy Company uses rice plastic! The innovative design uses 51% food grade rice and it has no toxic paints or adhesives, which is great because the trumpet and blocks immediately went into our baby’s mouth. Once I showed Mallary that the trumpet makes noise she wanted to start her own band! Fortunately for parents, it doesn’t make too loud of a toot and it’s not shrill either. Depending on if the baby is blowing in or out, it kind of sounds like a duck or quiet squeak! She picked it up very quickly and is so happy to play “music”!

Not only does Mallary enjoy blowing the trumpet but she has a great time smashing the block towers that I build for her. She also likes to bring the blocks from one place to another, place them in their original box or on her chair. There are several different shapes and sizes that are perfect for little hands. Mallary’s (8-month-old) nanny share buddy, drools and puts all the blocks in her mouth, and they both have fun shaking the rattles in the block set. It’s wonderful that the blocks are appropriate for a variety of ages. I’m looking forward to watching her build little houses in the next year. However, for now, she’s having way too much fun pretending to be Godzilla!

Thank you so much, Gugu Guru and People Toy Company for allowing me to review these colorful, environmentally friendly, and fun baby toys.
-Emily F., Mom to 14 Month-Old Daughter

Thank you so much for sending the Mochi Teether set for us to test. We have had a blast with the blocks. They were a hit from the get-go. My kiddo went straight for the rattles and ran around for a bit shaking them. The best part about trying them out was that for the first time my kiddo began building with me. I started stacking up some blocks and he joined in before knocking it all down. I’ve been keeping a couple of the columns near the changing pad since they have been super helpful keeping him calm and distracted during changes.

I also spent the last week visiting with several other similar age kiddos (5 months to 18 months) and they all loved them too. The parents all were curious about them (without me prompting them at all).

The trumpet has been well received too but due to the noise factor, it gets put away much of the time. My kiddo was pretty excited when he figured out how to work it.

Overall Mochi Toys have been a hit in our household and have been played with regularly since arriving.
-Laura S., Mom to 13 Month-Old Son

My one-year-old daughter thinks these blocks are wonderful! She loves to knock them over & they entertain her for a solid 7-10 minutes every time! The toy horn was a surprise for her to hear, & at first, she was scared of it, but after a few days she began to love it. She has even learned to blow the horn herself & thinks it’s so funny! I would definitely recommend these toys. It’s nice having the peace of mind knowing these are quality toys made from rice instead of harmful chemicals.
-Heather L., Mom to 11 Month-Old Daughter

Their simple timeline makes it easy to know which level your baby is at and you can easily follow the timeline of boxes from birth to 3 years old. Each level is so well thought-out, for example, Level 1 is for newborns, and as Monti Kids explains, “The toys in Level 1 are designed to build and grow your child’s attention span, right from birth. These toys help to optimize cognitive and motor development by providing just enough challenge without being over stimulating. The Level 1 curriculum will teach you how to promote your baby’s language, motor, cognitive and social-emotional skills. You will learn to set up a Montessori play area for your child that will best support development.”
