The Village Reviews: Beautycounter Winter Favorites

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

Winter weather is here! Let Beautycounter provide relief to dry skin the natural way with their Baby Daily Protective Balm and Baby Soothing Oil. Both products are great for babies and parents alike. Beautycounter excludes over 1,500 questionable ingredients to keep things simple and safe. Our Gugu Village Parents were able to test Beautycounter’s Baby Protective Baby Balm and Baby Soothing Oil and provided us with their thoughts.

I am always excited to try new natural skincare products and loved adding BeautyCounter’s Baby Soothing Oil to my son’s beauty regimen.

When I first received the bottle I wondered how many applications it would last for, but was pleasantly surprised how little product you actually needed to use. The oil is very light upon application and easily absorbed into the skin. I also really like that it had a very light fragrance that wouldn’t overwhelm my son.

This would be a great product for dry winter skin and is definitely a product I could use myself as well.

I have tried a lot of children’s moisturizers on the market and the BeautyCounter Baby Soothing Oil is my favorite!
-April A.

I tried the Beautycounter Baby Daily Protective Balm and I like how it is a completely natural alternative for diaper rash creams. We have used it on my son’s bum at night time diapers to help create a barrier to make it to the morning without any rashes. I also have used it around his chin where his skin is reddened from the paci and drooling due to teething. It would be nice for the winter in a dry, cold environment. I do love how it is made of completely safe ingredients and is unscented for sensitive baby skin.
-Kelsey M.

I had the opportunity to test Baby Soothing Oil by BeautyCounter. I wash my hands a lot and suffer from very dry hands and eczema. Usually, when I put lotion or anything on my hands, they burn where the eczema cuts are, but not with this product!! It actually felt soothing when I put it on. 1 pump was sufficient to cover my hands. I love that there are only 3 ingredients and it didn’t leave my hands feeling oily! I have only used it for a couple days but it has already improved my skin so much! I no longer feel like I am rubbing sandpaper on my baby’s skin when I touch him. This will be a huge help for my boys and myself through this upcoming winter too! So thankful to have tried this! I have found my new favorite moisturizer that is safe for my whole family!!
-Tiffany L.

This Baby Daily Protective Balm is awesome! I love the company and everything they stand for (they’re fighting for safer beauty which I can always get behind).  I already had some makeup items from the line but was really excited to try this balm for my son (almost 2). We live in Boston and the weather has been really dry lately so I’ve been applying the balm to some dry patches on his arms and after about 4 days they disappeared.  The Baby Balm also came at the perfect time because our whole family caught a cold. I used it on my son’s nose and on my dry lips and saw a noticeable improvement. The only downside to the product is that there are little chunks in it (probably from the all-natural ingredients) so it does not go on completely smooth but it did not bother me or my son so we can definitely live with that for the clean ingredient list.  I’m expecting a newborn in January and will definitely be adding this to our list of baby supplies to have on hand.
-Denalee M.

Thank you to Christine C. from Beautycounter for providing our Gugu Village Parents with products to test. Thank you to our Gugu Village Parents for providing us with their unbiased reviews. For more information on Beautycounter, click here!

Best Cool Mist Humidifier: Crane

by Mel Blume Leave a Comment

Why do you need the best cool mist humidifier? Three words: that first cold. Oy. Poor little babe is sniffling, coughing, being introduced to devices that go up their nose—it’s not really fun. For either of you. But, the amazing part of that first cold? You learn about a laundry list of items that become your go-to sniffle staples.

One of these essentials is a cool mist humidifier, and luckily, we found the best one. Say hello to the Crane Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier—the genius, filter-free option that is the key to peaceful Zzz’s.

Moist air is essential for stuffed baby nostrils (and adult nostrils for that matter). It makes it easier to breathe, especially when you’re congested and not enjoying that new-to-you annoying feeling. It helps babes sleep better and eat with a little less frustration. Humidity also makes it easier to clean mucus-filled noses—anything to make that job easier, we’ll take it.

Since the goal is to promote sweet snoozes, the Crane’s quiet-as-a-whisper sound doesn’t interrupt babe’s favorite lullaby. Plus, unlike many other humidifiers that require a great deal of cleaning to prevent bacteria build-up, the anti-microbial material reduces mold and bacteria growth by up to 99.96%. It also shuts off automatically when the water level gets low—one less thing to worry about at 4 a.m.

We love the incredible range of colors and styles that beautifully complement its aesthetically pleasing design (a next-level stylish option that outdoes the bulky tank). In addition to the rainbow of awesomeness available, you can also choose from Hello Kitty, an elephant, frog, monkey and more.

Crane just released their top fill humidifier, which is easy to fill, dishwasher safe and super easy to clean. It comes with an aroma diffuser and optional color changing nightlight.

best cool mist humidifier

If you don’t yet have a cool mist humidifier, you might want to purchase one ahead of the first cold—to avoid that midnight trip to the pharmacy. Good luck! Let us know what you think in the comments below.

What’s New on Gugu: November 6, 2019

by Abby Ludwig Leave a Comment

We have found some excellent new products this week, including a limited edition car seat stroller and a fun feeding accessory. These items will all make great gifts for any new parents-to-be. As we get closer to the end of the year, look out for many new products coming for 2020!

For a number of our other favorites, please check out our Explore page!

Doona Dusk

Doona Dusk Limited Edition: Exclusive to PishPoshBaby.com, Doona has released their sleekest stroller car seat. Go straight from car to strolling in elegance! Complete with leatherette detailing, a complimentary rain cover and essentials bag, we love the upgraded details!

Grabease Bib

Grabease All Over Bib: This bib is the solution to one of life’s biggest messes – feeding time with a toddler! This oversized bib has an elastic hem, which will easily fit over nearly any highchair. Plus the stain-resistant fabric is easy to pop in the washing machine (or even to rinse in the sink!).

Woven Nook

Woven Nook: One of our favorite ways to accent any nursery is a fun pillow sitting on your glider/rocking chair. Woven Nook has our favorite new collection of high-quality neutral pillow covers and blankets, that will find a great place in any nursery or playroom. Plus they are affordable so you can buy multiple and refresh your décor as needed!

Bokee

bökee: You’re holding a screaming baby and all she wants to do is eat. You rush to make the bottle, but as you reach for the lid you knock it over causing a big spill and instant frustration. Insert the bökee- the first feeding accessory to turn this whole process into a one-handed job! The bökee suctions to any countertop, grips the bottle (or sippy cup/pump products/etc) and allows you the freedom to hold and soothe your little one.

Bella Mama

Bella Mama: Invested in helping all moms-to-be have a healthy pregnancy, Bella Mama is created from evidence-based nutrition info in a month-by-month guide. There are also coaching options, where you can work one-on-one to ensure you’re filling your body with healthy choices.

Please note that these opinions are 100% my own and I have not received any products in exchange for placement in What’s New on Gugu!

The Village Reviews: Frida Baby DermaFrida Silicone Bath Mitt

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

Are you looking to toss your toddler’s smelly washcloth? The Frida baby DermaFrida Silicone Bath Mitt has splashed into the market and does not disappoint. The silicone design ensures a hygienic way to wash while providing toddlers the opportunity to engage in independent self-care. Keep reading to see what our real Gugu Village Parents had to say about this awesome bath mitt.

Fridababy DermaFrida the Bath Mitt

We love the Frida Baby DermaFrida Silicone Bath Mitt! My toddler took to it right away. After I showed her how it fits on her hand like a mitten, she puts it on herself and easily scrubs all over. She even washes her own face, something she’s always fought me on when I use a regular washcloth. Because of the design, I feel more comfortable letting her wash herself and don’t feel as much of a need to rewash to ensure she’s clean. Plus at the end of the bath, we just hang it to dry by the suction cup, no fussing with wet washcloths! This mitt has been great!
-Angeline W.

Fridababy DermaFrida the Bath Mitt

What an innovative and fun idea for a toddler who is learning early hygiene skills! Although the Frida Baby Bath Mitt is not designed to be a toy or teether, it certainly serves that dual purpose for our 21-month-old! She loved the soft silicone and thought she was hilarious as she put it on her feet to scoop up the bubbles. As Ms. Independent, she is adamant about washing her body all by herself and the size of the mitt fit her hand well (mom and dad’s hands, too!). As parents, we appreciate that it is BPA-free and bacteria resistant. The built-in suction cup allows for easy storage and quick drying. It is strong enough to stay on the wall but weak enough that our daughter could pull it off the wall by herself. It doesn’t get sudsy like we thought it would, but that wasn’t an issue for us. Another win from Frida Baby!
-Erica F.

Fridababy DermaFrida the Bath Mitt

I have been using the Frida Baby DermaFrida Silicone Bath Mitt with my twin boys who just turned two. They have been having a lot of fun using it to clean themselves during bath time! One of my sons loves putting it on his own hand and sticking his thumb through the slot- it fits perfectly!  Both of them have used it to scrub themselves all over. They like me to use it on their backs and heads. I like that it has drain holes for quick-drying, and I also appreciate the suction cup for easy storage. I think this will replace all those washcloths and reduce my laundry, too!
-Briana G.

Fridababy DermaFrida the Bath Mitt

Bath time just go a little cooler and more hygienic than you can imagine! Thank you, Gugu Guru, for the Frida Baby DermaFrida Silicone Bath Mitt. My daughter has been learning to wash herself and this helps to promote this with being a wash glove that her little hand can git in. She loves the silicone texture and the prickles make her giggle.
-Crystal B
Fridababy DermaFrida the Bath Mitt

My three-year-old son was very excited to try out the Frida Baby Silicone Bath Mitt as he is in a “do it myself” phase when it comes to bath time. He did not like putting his thumb through the kid-fit hole instead keeping his thumb out like I do when I take over for him. He didn’t seem bothered by the feel of the silicone but also didn’t prefer it over a standard washcloth. The Bath Mitt also doubled as a pretend “oven mitt” to hand me “food” while playing in the tub. 🙂

What I did love about the Bath Mitt was the suction cup allowing it to hang to dry. I hate how gross washcloths can get after using them if they’re not wrung out and dried. We also have the Frida Baby Bath Mitt and my son now hangs them together in the bathtub to dry.
-Ashley B.

Fridababy DermaFrida the Bath Mitt

The Frida Baby DermaFrida Bath Mitt is great! As soon as we showed it to our son, he wanted to use it during his tubby time. The Bath Mitt has a handy suction cup so it can hang in a vertical position allowing the bath water to drain out through the water openings at the end of the mitt. No mold and mildew here!  As we all know, toddlers want to do everything themselves and the Bath Mitt is the perfect size for the little one to stick their hands in with convenient thumb slots(for the left and right hand) and wash themselves up like the little grown-ups they think they are. As a parent, the Bath Mitt makes bathing so much easier without having to hold a little towel to scrub the body clean and instead we can give them a soft gentle massage while getting their bodies clean.
-David T.

Fridababy DermaFrida the Bath Matt

My husband and I have been huge fans of Frida Baby from the moment our son had his first cold and we discovered the amazingness of the NoseFrida. Well, the Frida Baby Silicone Bath Mitt is just as awesome and so well thought out like the rest of their products.

We are all about routines at our home and bath time is no exception. My five-year-old will be going into Kindergarten this year and we are trying to teach him the importance of a daily routine and being self-sufficient. Our boys get very excited about bath time and they can practically do everything themselves, except for the actual bathing part. My husband and I are always having to make sure they are getting clean and receiving a proper bath. We have been using the Bath Mitt for a few nights now, and holly molly it has been a game-changer! The Silicone Bath Mitt fits perfectly on my five-year-olds little hands and the thumb hole helps it stay without slipping off. I believe this is why it’s been so hard for him in the past because washcloths and loofahs can drop and slip with little hands trying to maneuver them. My son is now able to get everything clean himself and help his brother get clean too, it’s a win-win for kids and parents alike!
-Anne E.

We received the Boon Bottle Warmer and were pleasantly surprised. It fits perfectly on our countertops and does not take up much space. We use the Avent bottles which are wide and they fit perfectly. It’s very easy to use, you press the button after filling the tube in the back with the correct amount of water for warming and once the light goes off it starts heating. The Boon doesn’t beep when ready which is great for late feedings. My son is waiting patiently for his bottle with no tears because it heats items quickly. When we are ready for food it also warms jars.

The Boon Snug Snack Cups are awesome for our 17 month-old. It is easy for her little hands to get in and out of without losing the snack. It also does a good job of containing crumbs, etc. When my daughter shakes it, which she loves to do with all her snack cups, the silicone top keeps most of the broken snack pieces inside, rather than having them shake out all over the place. These are great in the car as well; I love that because there are no handles on the side, it fits in the cupholder on her car seat. They’re dishwasher safe, the included cups hold 7oz and the fact that they’re made without BPA, PVC and Phthalates is a huge plus. They’re easy to put on and take off, contain every type of snack we tried and I would highly recommend!

When we were building our baby registry, I did a lot of research on the different products I would need and the ones that we could do without. One of the items that was up for debate with many moms was a bottle warmer. Since my plan was to exclusively nurse I decided that we didn’t need one. Unfortunately, after dealing with a low milk supply, I am now an exclusive pumper. This means storing cold bottles of milk in the refrigerator. When the time came to eat, we were left with warming bottles under hot water. This took forever and was definitely not fun with a hungry, crying baby waiting. We were excited to try the Boon Bottle Warmer! The bottle warmer is very small and compact, taking up very little space on our counter. The warmer comes with a chart indicating how much water to put in for the amount and type of milk you are warming. This warmer is very simple-just one push of a button to get things steaming. This is a nice feature when we are in a hurry as we don’t want to mess with a lot of different settings. There is no sound indicating when the warmer has finished but does have a nice light indicator that shuts off automatically. All in all, it takes about 5 minutes for us to warm the pumped breast milk straight from the refrigerator. Our baby does not mind lukewarm milk, so for parents whose babies like very warm milk, it may take longer to get it to their preferences. Another great feature of this warmer is that it can fit many different types and sizes of bottles. Overall, the Boon bottle warmer is very simple and gets the job done in a lot less time!

Having a toddler is a little like living with a Tasmanian devil. You can clean a room, walk out, and come back to a disaster less than 10 seconds later. The same goes for mealtime. We’re lucky if more of her food makes it into her mouth than the floor, the chair or her lap.
The Boon CATCH BOWL is designed with toddlers like mine in mind. It has an extra-long lip that provides a landing zone for all of those macaroni noodles that make their way off the spoon before reaching their intended target. The suction cup base keeps it firmly on the table so you don’t have to worry about it accidentally (or on purpose) getting knocked onto the floor.

It’s intended for younger children who are just starting to learn to feed themselves but can definitely continue to be used for older kids, like my almost-3-year-old who uses it every day. The capacity is perfect for a toddler – it holds just over a cup of food.

You don’t want to put this one in the microwave, but you can toss it in the top rack of the dishwasher. Or if you’re like me and use it for every meal, it easily washes up by hand. We’ve put a variety of different foods in here and it doesn’t seem to stain or hold odors.

The coordinating MODWARE toddler utensils are the perfect companion to the CATCH BOWL. My daughter is really into matching these days, so she loves that her fork and spoon match her bowl. The handles are extra wide and ergonomically designed for toddler’s hands. There are no sharp edges and just like the CATCH BOWL they are dishwasher safe.
We are definitely on the Boon bandwagon with this set!

The Boon Catch Bowl is bright and cheery in color with the bright blue and green colors. My 14-month-old was immediately curious about it. We have tried it with various types of food and found that the functionality of the “catch” part works best with a liquidy type of foods such as stews and cereal. My son also attracted to chewing on the bottom suction! We have also tried it with my 5-year-old and while the bowl is a bit small for him, the catch part helps with the dripping while he’s eating and he thinks it’s so fun to use his baby brothers stuff!

We had the pleasure of testing the Boon Catch Bowl. We were able to test out this bowl in several locations and surfaces. Overall, we really like this product. When we used this on the high chair, it did not suction very well. We also have a seat for our kitchen island and the suction cup worked a lot better on our granite counters but still came off easily from our 9-month-old tugging on it. I think this is best for when we go to eat out. My daughter makes a huge mess, so to have a bowl we can attach to the table, helps keeps the table and surrounding area cleaner. The catch part of the bowl is also a great idea, especially when eating out. I think this will be handier when she is a little older because she just uses it as a teether when we put it facing her. Overall, we really like this bowl, it’s lightweight and easy to throw in the diaper bag and bring around town with you. It’s easy to clean and I love the colors and matching silverware you can get. I just wish the suction cup worked a little better on all surfaces.
