Nursery Trends for 2022

by Jenna Hatfield Leave a Comment

A quick search for baby bedding in 2022 brings up no less than 2 billion options. How do you choose? When it comes to design, how do you pick one of the nursery trends for your baby’s first room? We broke down 5 of the top nursery trends for 2022 to help you come up with some design ideas.

Neutral Nursery Trend

The neutral nursery remains a trend for 2022. One reason we continue to love this nursery look is that it’s truly gender-neutral. Whether you’re expecting a boy, girl, or surprise, you can put together a neutral toned nursery with ease. Additionally, you can reuse the neutral tones with future babies, making it both a financially smart and green option to boot. If you’re looking for some neutral tone inspiration, check out the Kendi Collection from Crane Baby. They combine earth tones with some subtle jungle friend accents to make a truly adorable nursery.

Celestial Themed Nursery Trends

Teach your baby to reach for the stars from day one. There are so many ways you can take this particular 2022 nursery trend. Maybe you want to go light and bright with whites and silvers like this option from Pottery Barn. Perhaps you want something a touch more scientific in nature like the Outer Space set from Crate and Barrel. Create a dream wall by adding some temporary star wallpaper. The main point here is that there are so many ways you can take the space, sun, moon, and stars theme. You can truly make it your own beautiful space for baby.

Green Nursery Trend

The green here refers to natural and not the color, though a green-colored nursery also sounds lovely. More parents are looking for natural fabrics and products to put in their newborn’s room. From organic sheets to organic cotton swaddle blankets to toys made with organic cotton and wood — and beyond — parents are really focusing on the products to which they expose their babies.

If this speaks to you, pay attention to what the products are made from more than the over all look. This may also lead you in the direction of a more minimalist nursery as the two often walk hand in hand.

Nursery Trend

Geometric Nursery Trends

The geometric print nursery trend is one that all trend lovers can embrace. Why? You can pair geometric prints with any of the other trends you’re also loving. Going with a neutral theme? Add some detail to the bedding with a geometric print. Thinking about going black and white for some high contrast stimulation? Add some dots to an accent wall to really liven up the space . Embracing the celestial trend? Opt for a half moon print on the crib sheets. Mixing the geometric print in with your theme print adds some spice. When you add some geometric detail in parts of your nursery — or the whole thing — you can add some texture and detail in unique little ways.

Nature Nursery Trend

Bring the outdoors in! Whatever makes you most passionate about the outdoors can also make a lovely theme in your baby’s room. You love hiking? Make one wall a mountain adventure. Go even deeper into the forest for your little cub with some cute bedding featuring bears or whatever animal strikes your fancy. Think foxes, owls, deer, and more. If flowers are your thing, you’re in luck because florals are also in, both bold and subtle alike.

One reminder: When it comes to designing your baby’s nursery, remember that you can embrace the 2022 nursery trends with open arms or you can do your own thing. If you want something more traditional, go for it. If you’re feeling more inclined to do something totally modern and unique, do it! You and your baby will be spending time in their room, not anyone out there picking the trends. So create something you find beautiful, inspiring, and calming.

The CuddleSnooze™ Crib Mattress

by Jenna Hatfield Leave a Comment

When it comes to picking a safe, comfortable place for your baby to sleep, a crib mattress is the most important decision you’ll make. Why? Because a crib mattress is more than simply a sleep surface. It’s a growth and development center. Your baby will be spending 70% of his or her time sleeping during that first year.

Who better to trust your family to than Colgate Mattress, a third generation, family-owned and operated company. For over 65 years, they have provided babies with the most restful and safest night’s sleep.

Handcrafted with the finest materials to give parents peace of mind, Colgate’s crib mattresses are designed to enhance your baby’s growth and development. The safest crib mattresses, made here in the USA, you can trust your baby will sleep both safely and soundly on the eco-friendlier surface.

Mattresses for cribs

Beyond being safe and eco-friendly, the main reason you’ll love the CuddleSnooze™ mattresses from Colgate Mattress is because they grow with your baby. One side features a firmer surface, perfect for your newborn baby. They do a lot of growing while sleeping, and the firm surface helps to maximize their development. Additionally, they need a firm spot as they learn to push up, roll over, and eventually stand. Once they’re a moving and grooving toddler, you can flip the mattress over to give them a little more cushion. This will ensure they feel comfortable at night, thus giving you both a better chance at getting a full night’s sleep.

Colgate Mattress offers a wide array of crib mattresses. We’re looking at the CuddleSnooze™ Grand line which offers your baby the best in dual-firmness and comfort.

CuddleSnooze™ crib mattress

CuddleSnooze™ Foam Grand

The Foam Grand crib mattress offers appropriate firmness, breathability, and comfort for the infant stage through the toddler years. The infant side of the mattress features high-density EcoFoam™ that provides the proper firmness needed for their growth and development. Flip the mattress over and your toddler will delight in the less-firm EcoFoam™  side, offering up a little extra comfort. This lightweight foam mattress is a smart selection for your little one’s development.

CuddleSnooze™ Innerspring Grand

Colgate Mattress

The Innerspring Grand still offers the dual-firmness to benefit both your infant and toddler. The infant side of the crib mattress features 104 coils of extra thick 13.5-gauge steel coils and 9.0-gauge steel border rods for recommended firmness and edge support. Additionally, it also boasts an insulator pad of coir fiber which is derived from natural coconut shell husks as well as a breathable honeycomb mesh spacer to promote airflow. The other side of the mattress features a less-firm foam to offer more pressure relief and comfort for your growing toddler.

CuddleSnooze™ Hybrid Grand

CuddleSnooze™ crib mattress

The Hybrid Grand crib mattress features the highest quality components available for baby. The infant side features the firmer, high-density EcoFoam™ while the other side offers toddlers a foam panel and durable microcoils for added pressure relief and breathability. It’s the best of both worlds for your youngest sleeper.

Benefits of All the CuddleSnooze™ Grand Crib Mattress Options

Colgate mattress

No matter which versatile CuddleSnooze™ crib mattress you choose, each of the options offer some important benefits that you and your baby will love. First and foremost, each of these mattresses fit all standard cribs. That takes the guesswork out of sizing. Additionally, each mattress is waterproof for easy cleaning- a benefit that every parent can appreciate. When you factor in that these mattresses are breathable and eco-friendly, you can’t go wrong picking CuddleSnooze™ for your baby.

Giving Back with Cause-Driven Giveaways

by Jenna Hatfield Leave a Comment

Just like we revamped our website for the new year, we’re also approaching how we handle giveaways. Here’s more from Gugu Guru founder, Monica Banks.

You definitely heard Monica correctly: We’re giving back this year by making all of our giveaways cause-driven giveaways! We feel incredibly excited about what cause-driven giveaways will mean for you, for our brands, and for those charities and philanthropies that will benefit from this effort.

As we continue to partner with the best brands for babies, parents, and families, we do so not just to bring you great products but to also give back in various ways. We look to create meaningful partnerships with brands that have a give-back angle already in place or founders who have a passion about giving back to different causes. By approaching our giveaways in this manner, we will help raise awareness for a variety of important causes and give back to the community in the process.

Additionally, you will see a round-up on our shop (in the cart) which features rotating charities receiving donations throughout the year. This feature will allow you to check out causes and charities on your own time as well. We know our Gugu Guru parents feel passionate about philanthropic endeavors. We wanted to make it easy to learn more and give back to ones that pique your interest.

This new approach allows us to continue to feature products while making it less about the “stuff” and more about what we can do, together with you, to benefit those in need. Our approach to giveaways this year is based on parents like you. Be sure to stay tuned for our cause-driven giveaways and how each one will give back to our community. We can’t wait to roll this out and start giving back throughout the year.

Everything You Need for a Minimalist Nursery

by Jenna Hatfield Leave a Comment

You already live the minimalist lifestyle, but how does one design a minimalist nursery? It is possible to keep things looking put-together and modern without going overboard on the baby stuff. Knowing the basics that you need will help you buy and register for items that fit perfectly into your minimalist nursery.

A Place to Sleep

Your baby will need a safe space to sleep in their own nursery. What that space looks like is up to you. Remember that a crib doesn’t have to mean a big, oversized, traditional-looking item. Pick something with clean lines in tones that complement the color scheme you’ve picked for the nursery. If you’re thinking about the future, you should know that even smaller, more contemporary-looking minimalist cribs have convertible options that will grow with your baby through their toddler years.

Minimalist Crib Photo by Jenna Duxbury on Unsplash

If a smaller but still full-sized crib doesn’t seem like the right option for your minimalist nursery, consider a bassinet, a mini crib, or even a playard. All three of these options fit in smaller areas, making them perfect picks for space-based minimalism. If you’re sharing your room with your baby, these are perfect for corner-of-your-room nursery options.

A Place to Store Things

Storage is a huge part of the minimalist lifestyle. Do you want a modern-looking dresser? Do you want open shelves with storage bins? Do you want a closet with appropriate organizational options? The trick to making storage work in your minimalist nursery is taking stock of your available space and making the most of that space. Pro minimalist design tip: Consider a dresser that fits *in* the closet to keep things out of sight.

A Place to Sit

Whether you are breast or bottle feeding, you’ll need a comfortable place to sit in your minimalist nursery. Instead of a traditional rocking chair, go with clean lines and a modern aesthetic when picking a chair. You can go with something simple or step it up a notch with a chair that has — hidden — bells and whistles like USB ports and automatic reclining features. Whatever you choose, make sure it’s comfortable. You’ll be spending lots of hours there with your baby.

A Place to Change

Instead of a single-use, bulky changing table which serves no purpose once your baby no longer wears diapers, consider alternatives. Utilize the top of your dresser and place a changing pad on top. If your baby will be sleeping in a crib, they also make handy crib-top changing pads. If you’re opting for a space-saving pack-and-play, look for one that has a built-in changing area to best use your space.

Other Necessities in Any Nursery

You’ll need some fitted sheets for whatever sleep space you’ve chosen for your minimalist nursery. It’s smart to have three or four extra sheets for nights that don’t go exactly to plan with diapers or spit-up. Pro-tip: These sheets can act as your decor, too! A humidifier, potentially with a white noise machine, is another smart choice to keep the room both comfortable and quiet, especially if you’re living in a smaller space with other children. Lastly, a monitor is a smart addition to your nursery even if you share a space. You won’t be sitting and staring at your sleeping baby, so having either a video or audio monitor in the room will help you know when your little one is awake.

Minimalist Nursery Decor Photo by John Mark Arnold on Unsplash

Lastly, when it comes to non-useful decor, remember to keep it simple. You don’t need lots of odds and ends that scream “baby!” A piece of art on the wall that speaks to you may be all you need. Follow a theme both in color and concept to keep things looking put together and simple.

Top 5 Must-Have Nursery Essentials for 2022

by Jenna Hatfield Leave a Comment

When you’re creating a baby registry, you may wonder what items you need for your baby’s nursery. Depending on the size and space of your baby’s nursery, you may have a lot of room to fill or a small space in which to fit a lot of newborn accouterments. Either way, we’ve rounded up five things you can register for or buy on your own prior to your baby’s arrival.

5 Nursery Must-Haves

If you will be using a crib for your baby’s safe sleeping space, you’ll want to grab the Colgate Mattress CuddleSnooze™ Hybrid Grand. This mattress fits all standard cribs, making it a perfect choice for the one you’ve chosen. This unique mattress will grow with your infant into the toddler years. It features two sides of differing firmness. The side for your infant is more firm, offering more support and stability for their growth and development. Flip it over for the toddler side, which features a foam panel for a little more cushioning. You’ll love how the mattress can be used for years to come, saving you time and money in the long run.

Every nursery needs a diaper pail. We recommend the Dékor Plus Hands-Free Diaper Pail for a convenient and sanitary diaper disposal system. When you’re wrangling a wiggly baby, you’ll appreciate the hands-free foot control to lift the lid. You simply step on the foot pedal and drop the diaper through the spring-loaded trap door. There’s nothing else to worry about, including smells. As a note: This diaper pail is a perfect option for cloth diapering families as it has the largest opening on the market. We also love how easy it is to remove the liner as needed without wasting a whole bag.

If your baby’s nursery faces the rising sun or features large windows, you’ll want to invest in some room darkening curtains or these reusable ergoPouch Window Blockout clings. The blackout clings not only block the light from waking your baby but also reflect the heat back from the window to help regulate the temperature in the room. You will love how these clings use static and not adhesive, meaning you won’t have to deal with any residue on your window when you remove them in the future. You can simply roll them up when not in use. The clings arrive in a roll, so you can cut and customize the fit to your baby’s nursery windows.

Every nursery needs a cool mist humidifier, and you can’t beat this one from Crane. Not only does the Crane 4-in-1 Cool Mist Humidifier offer all the features you want in one — from easy fill to an aroma tray to a one gallon tank and a 24-hour run time for all night use — but it also features a white noise machine. You can help your little one breathe easier while also helping them drift off to sleep without distractions from the rest of the family outside their nursery room door.

When it comes to video monitoring your baby’s nursery, you will want to invest in the Nanit Pro Complete Monitoring System with wall mount. This particular bundle gives you everything you need to make sure your baby is okay when they’re in their own room. It comes with the Nanit pro camera, wall mount, a small breathing band, a smart sheet that helps record your baby’s height over time, and a multi-stand so you can take the camera with you when you travel. You’ll breathe a little easier when you can use the app on your smartphone to check in on your baby as they snooze comfortably in their crib.

Boon: Beyond the Grass

by Jenna Hatfield Leave a Comment

Maybe you know the Boon brand because of their grass. Their bottle-drying grass, that is. It’s a handy, must-have product for all parents. But did you also know that Boon’s wide selection of baby products can take you from wake up to bedtime, helping you parent your best all day long? Take a look below to see how parents use Boon products sun up to sun down!

Good Morning, Sunshine!

Your little one wakes up and their tummy is rumbling, ready for breakfast. Buckle your hungry kiddo into the Boon GRUB High Chair. Whether your six-month-old is starting out with first foods or your toddler is demanding eggs, yogurt, and oatmeal with a side of orange juice, this high chair is the perfect pick.

Join your little one for breakfast, without the worry of spills or mess. The GRUB is incredibly easy to clean. First off, it has none of those little cracks and crevices that hold everything from crumbs to dried oatmeal and yogurt. But it gets better: You can wash the entire seat and the tray in the dishwasher. So kick back and relax (or more realistically, grab a quick bite) while your little one enjoys breakfast.

We know how busy your little one is after breakfast. Playing, reading, and making quite a mess! GRUB has you covered for snack time too. As your little one grows, the chair will convert to comfortably seat your toddler as they down some animal crackers or strawberries.

Afternoon Zen

Depending on the age of your little one is, you may be bottle feeding all day or handing your little one some water in a sippy cup. Either way, Boon’s NURSH Silicone Bottles will keep these feeds stress-free and simple. These bottles will quickly become your baby’s favorite, and because of that, yours as well. Plus, they’re a gorgeous pop of color that adds a little pizazz to your daily routine!

This bottle is unique in its design, with the milk only touching silicone. Additionally, with no straws, vents, or valves, the pouch collapses as your baby drinks. That results in less digestion of air which helps cut down on gas, reflux, colic, and burps. In short, you’ll have a happier, well-fed baby. And a happier, well-fed baby will be easier to settle down into their afternoon nap, allowing you to rest or get things done while they’re out like a light with a full, happy tummy.

Speaking to your eco-conscious side, the pouches are also reusable. To make these bottles even more lovable, they’re easy to clean as well as easy for your baby to hold. Basically, these bottles are easy to love. And, like most of our Boon favorites, these bottles have added longevity as they transition with a quick cap switch to a silicone straw sippy!

Goodnight, Sleep Tight!

Your little one is up, ready to play (after a quick snack with GRUB + NURSH). This busy day is reaching dusk and dinnertime. You start to see those little yawns and know that there’s no better way to transition to bedtime than with a bath. The Boon PUFF holds water under your baby to help keep them warm while you scrub germs away.

This inflatable baby bather is covered in super-soft microfleece for a comfortable bath time experience. It fits into most sinks and can also be used in an adult-sized tub. Planning on using it again tomorrow? Remove the microfleece cover and either hang it up or toss it in the dryer. It will dry quickly, making sure everything is ready for tomorrow when you get to live your best life with your baby all over again. Once your little one outgrows the PUFF, be sure to check out their line of great mold-free bath toys + tub products, that will last you for years!

You have finally tucked your little one in. The sun has set and it’s time for you to relax and catch some zzz’s before jumping in again tomorrow.

Thank you to Boon for making this sponsored post possible.

  1. Do be specific.

You are allowed to want what you want for your baby, their nursery, and your home. If you want the Nanit Pro Camera, register for it. A fancy blue Baby K’tan baby carrier strikes your fancy? Register for it. It’s your baby. It’s your registry. Be as specific as you please, right down to the types of nursing pads you prefer.

What to add to your baby registry

2. Do think past the newborn stage.

Newborns are so small and cuddly and tiny for… approximately three blinks. Suddenly they’re in 3-6 month clothes and you’re scrambling to find weather-appropriate pieces for them to wear outside of the house! Keep ages and stages in mind as you look at clothing (which yes, you can register for!), toys, feeding, and other gear. Additionally, if you register for a specific type of diaper, be sure to include a variety of sizes to help you through those transitions as your baby grows.

3. Do consider other seasons.

If your baby is born in the summer, you might be thinking about all of those early outings you’ll get to experience with them in their stroller. Don’t forget about the other seasons of the year and add a rain cover for your stroller to keep the wind and rain off of them in the fall. Or even a footmuff for those blustery winter days when you still need to go for a walk. Adding these items now means you won’t have to make a quick purchase as the weather changes with each season.

4. Do add some skincare and wellness products of your choosing.

When it comes to skin, babies can be the most particular among us. Until they’re born, you won’t quite know what works for them beyond the types of products you’d like to use. Add brands that you feel most comfortable starting out with trying, like Earth Mama for all kinds of balms, washes, and more. Additionally, you’ll want to have a nasal aspirator on hand, and you can’t go wrong with Dr. NozeBest NozeBot. Other items in this category include a rectal thermometer, humidifier, and maybe even an air purifier. Remember point 1 in this section: It’s your registry and you can be as specific as you want with brands, even for things as small as baby wash.

5. Do your research, but do have fun.

It can feel very overwhelming to pick everything you want and need for your baby. When comparing car seats alone, it can feel daunting to trust any seat with your precious newborn. If you start to feel a bit overwhelmed, reach out to us! We are here to help remove those feelings of angst and ensure you are making the right selections for your life! This process should be fun and exciting, not daunting and insurmountable. We are always a quick email away – hello@guguguru.com

Don’ts

  1. Don’t forget yourself.

You will need some extra special care in the days, weeks, and months after your baby arrives. Add some healthy snacks, nipple butter, and an herbal sitz bath to help get you through those early days and nights. Additionally, don’t forget to add some comfortable nursing clothing, like a tank and bra set.

2. Don’t forget about services!

Not everything can be wrapped up in cute wrapping paper and topped with a bow. Do you need some help after the baby arrives? Would you benefit from a breast and bottle feeding class? Or a new baby care workshop? Maybe even a weekly house cleaner visit for the first month? Think outside the box. Some gift-givers really love gifting experiences over things.

3. Don’t forget the little things.

Yes, you registered for your car seat and a stroller, and a high chair. How about baby-sized hangers for the closet? And some cute baskets for the shelves that match the decor you’ve chosen? Bottle brushes? Maybe some diaper balm? All those little things that parents use on a regular basis that get overlooked when thinking about the big things: add those too.

4. Don’t worry about what others are or aren’t registering for right now.

If you want it, don’t worry about what your best friend added to her registry or your sister-in-law told you not to register for last week. Just as we told you to be specific with your registry, we remind you that it is your registry. Not your mom’s, your mother-in-law’s, or your neighbor’s. It’s yours. If you don’t agree with the opinions of others, ignore them!

5. Pro Tip: Don’t reveal the baby’s gender.

This last don’t is a pro-tip we recently shared on our Instagram. In short: If your heart is set on receiving the items on your registry, don’t reveal the baby’s gender. Why? The moment you share that information with people, they will buy clothing, blankets, and other gifts that they think will be appropriate for your little bundle of joy. Even if you register for neutral clothing and bedding, letting those who are buying you gifts know the baby’s gender can skew their gift-giving. Obviously, this isn’t a hard and fast rule, but it was a light bulb, pro-tip moment for sure! Try it out and report back to us.
