What’s New on Gugu: April 10, 2019

by Abby Ludwig Leave a Comment

I absolutely love finding new products to share with our users. It is too easy to feel “overwhelmed” with all of the new products that hit the market each day. Having just celebrated Gugu Guru’s 4th birthday, our initial little ones aren’t even babies anymore! As your babies grow into toddlers and beyond, don’t hesitate to reach out to us for product help! We LOVE hearing from our users!

For loads of our other ever-changing favorites, please check out our Explore page!

Noggin Wipes: A truly no-mess solution to cradle cap, which affects over 70% of babies before their first birthday. These gently exfoliating wipes are created with an avocado-oil based solution, which continues to moisturize and break up cradle cap well after use. The disposable wipes will begin to work immediately, helping clear away the flaky (and unwanted) irritation.

Target’s Pillowfort Inclusive Line: Pillowfort, Target’s adorable line for kids’ décor, has revolutionized the market for children with sensory sensitivities. They have launched 20 new items, including weighted blankets, floor cushions, and a cocoon seat. Each high-quality product adds something special to this inclusive line. We cannot stop praising this line and Target’s approach to making everyone feel welcome!

Motif Medical’s Luna Breast Pump: Coming this month, The Luna Breast Pump is a great choice for working moms. It is sleek and small on the outside, but strong enough on the inside to help busy moms pump in less time. Plus it’s a ‘closed system,’ which means that your breastmilk will flow directly into the bottle and helps prevent contamination. Check their website for insurance coverage!

Mimish Storage Pouf: I am a sucker for multi-purpose items. Mimish has taken adorable décor and added even more functionality. Ever walk into your little one’s room only to find stuffed animals and toys everywhere? Look no further than this fun line of storage poufs! They will cleverly hide any mess while providing adorable aesthetic to every bedroom.

Edushape Baby Sensory Balls: Edushape’s sensory balls have been around since the late 90’s. There’s a reason why these continue to be a family favorite! We love this new set, which allow baby to explore various textures and colors with easy to grab materials.

What’s New on Gugu: April 3, 2019

by Abby Ludwig Leave a Comment

This week I will be highlighting 5 new items to Gugu Guru. You may have seen these already pop up in your product recommendations, because we love them all so much! Please note that these opinions are 100% my own and I have not received any products in exchange for placement in What’s New on Gugu! These are strictly some of our favorite items that I want to share with you! For loads of our other favorites, please check out our Explore page!

Gabri Isle’s Spring Collection: One of our favorite children’s clothing lines makes high-quality European clothing accessible in the US. We love that they focus on highlighting female-driven brands and love the high-quality items they sell. Plus, they offer a wide variety of styles from all different price points. Great addition to any registry!

MiliMili Wearable Blanket: Made in the USA, MiliMili’s wearable blanket is a lightweight sleepsack, which will keep your little one safely bundled up in his/her crib. Utilizing a bamboo jersey fabric, this sleepsack soft, naturally anti-microbial, and great for sensitive skin!

Lalo ‘The Daily’ Stroller: The latest innovation to hit the stroller market, Lalo is a Scandinavian inspired stroller that promises to streamline the stroller game. Minimalist in design and style, this stroller is an excellent choice for urban families. Look out soon for the convertible version, which will be able to accommodate two kiddos!

Baby Says Chalkboard Shoes: This brand new adorable line of infant footwear was created by a mom who wanted to help older children interact with their new baby siblings. Baby Says shoes have a chalkboard bottom and are available in both moccasin and sneaker style. Each shoe purchase comes with one white chalkboard marker, which will easily erase from your little one’s shoes. Purchase today and let the bonding through artwork commence!

Trend Lab Galaxy Caddy: This ginormous diaper caddy is a perfect addition to any changing station. We love this minimalist caddy, which is lightweight and easy to carry around the house. Plus the Galaxy pattern is gender neutral and will blend in with any nursery décor.

What’s New on Gugu: March 27, 2019

I have some great new products to share this week! At Gugu Guru, we are always looking for the latest new baby/parent items to help make your lives easier. This week I am focusing on some new items that will be highlighted at the upcoming JPMA show. JPMA, or Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association, is the industry’s authority on baby product quality and safety. Plus, our very own Monica Banks, Gugu Guru’s Founder/CEO will be presenting at this year’s JPMA Trade Show!

For loads of our other favorites, please check out our Explore page! (Also, these opinions are 100% my own and I have not received any products in exchange for placement in What’s New on Gugu!)

Slumberpod: Imagine this – you are traveling with your infant or toddler and sharing a room for sleep (i.e. hotel room, grandparent’s house, etc.). When your baby first wakes up, they look across the room and can see you instantly. Instead of the full night of sleep you are all used to, your little one is up and ready to start the day. Slumberpod was created for this exact situation. A perfect solution to create a privacy pod over travel cribs or playards. This is a must-have for traveling families!

Dr. Brown’s Options+ Anti-Colic Bottle: One of our favorite bottle brands has done it again! The new Options+ Bottle utilizes a special venting system that you can use to help with symptoms of Colic and Reflux. As your baby grows, and no longer needs the extra vent, you have the ‘option’ to remove it. They have made a few other great upgrades to the new bottles, too! We love the one-handed cap removal and new nipple design. These are truly a go-to bottle for any babies with tummy issues!

NOONI’s: NOONI’s is the first all-in-one leak resistant nursing sleep bra. With a patent-pending 4 layer solution, you will no longer wake up to find yourself in a cold and damp top (or worse, bedsheet). Plus, their inside layer is made of a thin fleece material, staying warm and soft on the skin. An extremely comfortable solution to such a frustrating problem!

Cybex Stroller Upgrades: We love Cybex strollers at Gugu Guru! The Priam (class all-terrain) and Mios (travel), have recently received excellent upgrades. They have upgraded colors, stroller suspension, and the Lux Carrycot. These strollers are excellent options for moms looking for a sleek, modern stroller that functions well for everyday use.

Chicco Nextfit Zip Max Air: Chicco’s Nextfit convertible car seat has received quite the upgrade. Now with multiple recline positions, this seat fits infants starting at 4 pounds (rear facing) and converts to a forward facing seat for children up to 65 lbs. It is easy to install and has added safety features. We also love the ability to unzip the fabric, making cleaning a breeze!

What’s New on Gugu: March 6, 2019

by Abby Ludwig Leave a Comment

We’re back with another What’s New on Gugu! This week we’re sharing some items that are brand new to the market and others are oldies but goodies that you may not know about. For loads of our other favorites, please check out our Explore page!

Preggo Pickles: After trying this product at a baby show this past weekend, I was blown away! Not only are they delicious but they will truly satisfy that pickle craving that haunts many moms during pregnancy. Their unique flavors have also been created to support pregnant/new mom challenges (i.e. nausea and nursing). As an added bonus, they are extremely low in sodium when compared to other pickles on the market. So pregnant mamas crunch away!

bblüv Foöd and Döse: While National Snack Month may have ended (bye February!) we are still loving these new food storage containers from bblüv. Perfect for meals on the go, Foöd (coming soon!) is leak and odor proof and will keep your food warm (or cold) with it’s insulated walls. Plus the top can be used as a shallow bowl (with built in spoon!). Paired with the Döse stackable snack container, you will be set for on-the-go eating!

Magnetic Me Clothing: While these are not new to the market, the Magnetic Me Footies are always on my list of must-haves for new parents. The magnetic closure on these newborn essentials will be a game changer for those early days. The fabrics are so soft (I love the eco-friendly modal) and the patterns are adorable!

Toofeze: You’ve all been there (or will be soon!). Your little one is in pain from teething and nothing seems to be helping. Until Toofeze! A teether made of food-grade silicone and stainless steel, your baby will instantly be drawn to the cool relief.  When the stainless disc finally does warm up, simply stick it into a glass of cool (or ice) water and it will instantly chill. This will quickly become one of baby’s favorite toys.

Solly Baby Spring Collection: Another oldie but goodie, we often recommend the Solly Wrap to our users as a must-have for the fourth trimester. Not only do they have exceptional wrap carriers, but we also love the swaddle blankets and layette sets. Their new Spring collection is few of beautiful colors, and even a few patterns all great for Mom or Dad!

The world of baby/toddler gear is always being inundated with new, cool items! Our job at Gugu Guru is to help you sort through all the ‘fluff’ and figure out what items will be a great pick for your lifestyle and taste. Each week I will be sharing some items that we at Gugu Guru think should be at the top of your list to check out. Some of these items are brand new to the market and others are oldies but goodies that you may not know about. For loads of our other favorites, please check out our Explore page!

Evenflo Balance + Wide Glass Baby Bottles : Created with Pediatric feeding specialists, the new glass bottle by Evenflo is a great option for eco-friendly parents! They have truly thought of everything, using shock-resistant tempered glass and a uniquely shaped nipple leading to a perfect latch. We also love the venting system, which will ensure that your little one doesn’t suck up any extra air. A great new glass feeding option!

Fusion Gates: Finally a stylish and artistic solution to the need for safety gates! The contemporary look of Fusion Gates can be further personalized to your taste with their interchangeable art screens. They truly become an art piece in your home! We also love that they can be installed with pressure mount or hardware options.Edushape Tub Sub: As a former Early Childhood and Kindergarten teacher, I love to find toys that help my kids learn while having a blast. Edushape hits the nail on the head with all of their products, which have been created to get kids to think. Their new Tub Sub will help your little one learn all about buoyancy during bath time. Plus, it’s easy to clean, which as any seasoned parent will tell you is a MUST for bath toys!

Freshly Picked Mom Clothing: A beloved moccasin company finally launched a line for Mom this Fall! Full of fun and adorable sneakers, clothing, and purses, they offer classic items in high quality fabrics. We also love the option to ‘match your little’ with coordinating t-shirts and bags!

Wash. It. Later. Bags: Perfect for on-the-go parents, Wash. It. Later. bags are the solution to life’s messiest moments with baby. Leak-proof, liquid safe bags will both hold the messy items and begin to soak them in a cleaning solution (free of harsh chemicals and all-natural) until you get to the washing machine. Great for travel and an excellent option for your gym bag messes as well!

Work at Home Mom Must Haves: Part 1

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

In our first installment of essentials for the work at home mom, Alex – mom of three with one on the way – is chatting about teethers, diaper bags, maternity clothes, and why a Crane USA humidifier is an essential for any house. Check out Alex on her blog and Instagram – and see all of our mom types here, too.

Lou Lou Lollipop Teether: This teether is amazing — I love that it’s got a sturdy clip that even a strong-willed toddler can’t yank off!  The quality of the actual teether is soooo sturdy and is the perfect firmness for those achy teething baby gums that need some gnawing relief on an adorable donut!

Skip Hop Diaper Bag Backpack, Forma: I absolutely love this backpack — it is spacious to fit alllll of my baby/toddler/mom gear yet compact enough that it doesn’t feel like it’s a steamer trunk and takes up a bunch of room.  I just LOVE the stroller clips so I can clip this bad boy on the back of my stroller when we’re out and about and I have quick access to all of my essentials!  I just love it!

GoodbodyGoodmommy Maternity Leggings and Multitasking Cardigan: Holy cats.  These are hands-down my favorite FAVORITE maternity (and probably postpartum too!) gear!  They are made out of super soft material that feels sooooo good on my stretched out sore pregnant body.  I absolutely love the cardigan, which is perfect for both pregnancy and postpartum nursing sessions!  The support band in the maternity leggings is my most favorite thing ever, because my belly tends to carry 9+ pound babies and this will be the best support ever for that and my back.  I just love these both SO MUCH! (See more on the multitasking cardigan here, too)

Crane USA Elephant Humidifier: This humidifier is not only practical (helllllo winter dryness!) but also freaking adorable.  I love the elephant design and love even more that I can adjust the intensity of the humidifier (aka make it last all night long!) as well as the direction it is spraying towards.  It’s also super easy to refill and clean!

Stay tuned for more Work at Home Mom Picks from Alex!

Keeping Your Diaper Bag “Spring Clean”

by Gugu Guru 1 Comment

It’s a fact, when you’re a mom, you lug around a lot of “stuff”. And every seasoned mom knows that sometimes the “stuff” that you need to carry in your bag can be a bit unsavory (sealed ziplock bag with poopy diaper or a pair of soaking wet, dirty toddler socks, anyone?)  That is why the team at Gugu Guru loves the SmartGear Diaper Bag and the new Weekender Bag from Baby K’tan. 71xhM85VTpL._SX522_ What makes this bag so different and just so genius is that it includes a built-in wetbag with antibacterial lining and water-tight zipper as well as antibacterial pockets that kill germs and odor causing bacteria. 71KZyzexEXL._SX522_-2And – if you didn’t know already – a bevy of pockets is absolutely mandatory to keeping your life organized with a baby.  In our post 7 Tips For A Clutter-Free Life with Kids, Shira Gill suggests creating a diaper bag list “so you can make sure you are stocked up on the essentials before running out the door. Make sure to include healthy snacks, hand sanitizer, lip balm, etc. for your own self care.” The Baby K’tan has you covered here, with a total of 12 functional pockets to store all your essentials and more.

BKSG_DIAPERBAG_BLACK_PT02

But we all know that none of this really matters unless the bag is fashionable as well as functional. Baby K’tan gets a big check mark here too with the cute designs (including unisex styles for dad) with over the shoulder and stroller-bar straps included.

Also check out The Weekender Bag from Baby K’tan. It has a total of nine compartments for all your essentials, including a built-in antibacterial wet bag, an extra large insulated pocket to keep food cold and a padded laptop pocket for devices up to 14″. For baby it is outfitted with a matching changing pad with antibacterial lining, a wipes case for easy access wipes pocket and an antimicrobial pacifier pouch.

5 Big Baby Registry Mistakes to Avoid

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

Bet you didn’t know that it’s really normal to make some big baby registry mistakes or stumble into some common shopping pitfalls if you’re a first time parent.  No worries, Gugu Guru’s here to help you steer clear of some common missteps that you can make when building your registry. Since launching Gugu Guru in 2015, we have been fortunate enough to help thousands of families with registering. By learning about big baby registry mistakes to avoid, you can reduce the likelihood of cluttering your home, dissatisfaction with products, and returns or exchanges. So here they are…

Mistake #1: Registering for Way Too Much

One of the most common big baby registry mistakes is putting everything under the sun on your registry. It’s easy to get overwhelmed – especially when you’re selecting products for baby as a first time parent. You’d be surprised by how little baby actually needs and aside from savings and an uncluttered home, another benefit to registering for just the essentials is that you’re reducing your footprint as a consumer.  One easy thing to avoid is buying way too much in one size – especially newborn size.  Babies grow and they grow quickly. If you purchase tons of newborn size clothes and launder them, you’ll inevitably be stuck with a bunch of unworn clothes in a short amount of time. Same goes with newborn size diapers – definitely register for one jumbo box but register for a box of size 1 as well. If your baby is still in size NB diapers when you’ve gone through that initial box, then you can always buy more. Check out our minimalist registry picks for more tips on building a baby registry of just the bare essentials.

Mistake #2: Thinking It will Cost a Fortune

Luckily for brands like Infantino or Target’s Cat and Jack (check out the new baby subscription box), you definitely do not have to either sacrifice quality nor break the bank when it comes to registering for baby. We are also living the age of local BTS (Buy Trade Sell) groups on sites like Facebook or awesome consignment sites like ThredUp. But buyer beware: while clothing is generally safe to get as hand-me-downs (though make sure to check for loose buttons or other infant hazards), there are certainly some items that you may want to avoid getting second hand such as car seats (they expire!), strollers or cribs. Check out our budget registry picks for more tips on how to build an economical baby registry.

Mistake #3: Underestimating the Value of a Few Investment Pieces

On the flip side, if you are too penny-wise when building your baby registry, it can come back to haunt you. There is nothing more frustrating or more money-wasting than crappy baby gear.  If you register for an umbrella stroller that’s priced at just a few dollars – expect to be replacing it probably more than once and also expect to be frustrated when you can’t open it, or when the wheels won’t turn or when a wheel pops off. Trust us when we say that sometimes a cheap price tag isn’t worth the agony nor is it worth a potential safety hazard for baby.  Another thing to keep in mind is if you’re planning to have more children close together in age. It may be worth to register for a stroller that will convert to a double now versus having to pay for a double stroller later on. There are other investment items we recommend like a mattress, bouncer and other items that will get lots of use.

Mistake #4: Registering for Too Many Bottles, Pacifiers or Diapers

Newsflash! You will find out that your baby has preferences and that you also have preferences when it comes to products. One big baby registry mistake that you’ll want to avoid is just assuming that your baby will like a product just because it’s popular with mommy Instagrammers or because your best friend’s baby likes it. Sometimes baby will not accept a pacifier – no matter how cute it is or how many brands you try. Other times, you may have to try a few different bottles because baby has a nipple preference or maybe the one you read so many great reviews about doesn’t fit in that formula maker you purchased, has too many parts or it leaks (the worst!) Preferences come into play with diapers too – particular brands can be popular but the fit is just not right for your baby. It may take a few trials of brands and sizes before you find the right diaper for your baby. Play it safe and register for some retailer gift cards just in case you have to do some shopping around with these particular items. If you get it right on the first time with the pacifier / bottle / diaper brand you choose, then the gift cards can go to other necessities as baby grows – of which there will be plenty!

Mistake #5: Asking a Friend or Family Member What to Register For

This is the queen mother of all big baby registry mistakes – asking your friend or family member what to register for. We say this all the time at Gugu Guru: the products that work for  – even those products considered as “can’t live without” by – your bff or your sister may not be the right products for YOU.  As much as you have in common with your besties, your respective home décor and wardrobes probably look a lot different and that will be the same for the products you choose for parenting.  Even more so, a year in the baby gear market is like dog years. New products and up-and-coming brands are a constant, and if you’re not staying on top of things and only going for what your friend used for her baby she delivered 6 months ago, you may just miss the perfect products for you.  This is why we came up with Gugu Guru, which delivers free, personalized recommendations and then ultimately Gugu Concierge – our “white glove” service that gives you the MOST personalized help preparing for baby. Gugu Concierge helps you with baby registry and beyond so you can avoid all these mistakes, cut through the noise and get things right on your very first try. P.S. Must Have Essentials: Baby Basics

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

When it comes to Baby Basics, what are the essentials you need to add to your registry? We asked our seasoned baby planners what their top picks are for Baby Basic Must Have Essentials!

Jessica Zablan, The Birth & Baby Company –

Must Have Essential, Baby Basics: At The Birth & Baby Company, we make sure every baby registry has the FridaBaby 1st Aid Kit. You can never go wrong with their amazing nose sucker! It might be weird but it WORKS!

Amber Michels of Your Milk Shoppe –

Must Have Essential, Baby Basics: NoseFrida– this is a must and will contribute to parents and baby’s good night sleeps! It is not only safe, but super effective. Halo Sleepsack Newborn Multi-Way Cotton Swaddle– with so many swaddles, this is one that you can count on to keep your baby comfortable and secure. The Baby Shusher– white noise that works, ensuring your baby is soothed and sleeping!

Abby Ludwig, Gugu Guru Registry Consultant –

Must Have Essential, Baby Basics: When it comes to basics, there’s one item at the top of my list: swaddle blankets. These can be used to swaddle (duh!), as a soft place for tummy time (ooh!), as burp cloths (nice!)… and the list goes on and on! My favorites are the Aden + Anais Classic Swaddle Blankets, which are larger than most, soft, and breathable. Plus they come in lots of fun patterns and designs in every color. These are definitely a must have basic for new moms.

Ashley Akselband of Wellsprings Birth and Baby –

Must Have Essential, Baby Basics: I have two (smaller registry items, but still super helpful!) – the Boon grass drying rack which is great to dry bottles and/or breast pump accessories after washing, and the other would definitely be the NoseFrida – it’s the most amazing snot sucker on the market!

Olivia Howell, Gugu Guru’s Editor in Chief –

Must Have Essential, Baby Basics: I always had to have a super soft baby blanket around; we used them as burp cloths, blankies, even a makeshift diaper once or twice!

Alexa Rubin, Gugu Guru Business Development –

Must Have Essential, Baby Basics: Baby mittens are a must! Babies tend to scratch themselves and these are a lifesaver.
