Real Mom Reviews: Belabumbum

by Abby Ludwig Leave a Comment

Belabumbum is all about comfort. Throughout pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond, their items have been created with mamas in mind. As moms, we are always on the hunt for high-quality, multifunctional clothing items. Those comfy basics that you need each day, but also want to wear. The problem is, there are so many items out there and many of them are uncomfortable! We sent some of our real moms a set of Belabumbum’s eco-friendly (and ethically sourced) leakproof intimates to review. Here’s what they had to say:

Kelsey, 2nd Time Mom

The Belabumbum products were better than I could have imagined! I loved the material and femininity of the Enora nursing bra. The bra was super easy to clip and I liked how the leakproof nursing pads could slip in and give it some extra padding. The nursing pad material was thick, moisture-wicking, and truly way better than the itchy disposal nursing pads I have used in the past.

The smoothing brief was my favorite! It felt very secure and the absorbent lining was an extra bonus. The low rise brief was a good option to wear with jeans or a lower waisted pant. Both briefs are a buttery soft material and all products tried were true to size!

Alex, 1st time Mom

The leakproof bra and pads have been great during my breastfeeding and pumping journey! My little one is almost 5 months old and I’ve worn it a couple of times each week when I want something a little sexier than my usual pumping sports bra. The bra is very comfortable and the lace doesn’t show under my top. I typically leak in the morning and didn’t have any issues with the pad inserts when I wore them – kept me leak-free!

The panties weren’t for me as the sizing seemed to be inconsistent with regular sizing. I received my true size, but they were almost two sizes too big and I was unable to wear them. In my opinion, the panties are better suited for maternity vs postpartum.

Christine, 2nd Time Mom

These are my favorite reusable nursing pads that I’ve tried. The non-slip design on the outside keeps them in place, even in nursing tanks where they’d normally slide around. They’re thick and absorbent to prevent any leaking. The nursing bra is comfortable and the touch of lace is tasteful and flattering. Something fun for a nursing bra.

While I can’t speak to the leakproof functionality, I thought the undies were very comfortable. They were definitely something I can see myself wearing. I do think the high rise would probably be more comfortable immediately postpartum or even while pregnant.

Thank you to Belabumbum for allowing our moms to test your wonderful products.

Fearless Leakproof Panties from Kindred Bravely Protect in Style

by Jenna Hatfield Leave a Comment

Whether you’re a pregnant or postpartum mama, the truth is that you might be afraid to sneeze. Or laugh. Or jump on a trampoline with your littles. Or chase them across your yard. Why? Leakage, of course. It happens, and it’s time we talk about it. That’s where Kindred Bravely and their new Fearless Leakproof Panties come into play.

While not intended for heavy period days or postpartum bleeding, the Fearless Panties can help with small leaks and light spotting. They feature a wide, absorbent gusset that traps both leaks and odors, making you feel more confident when you’re out and about with your family. In fact, these comfortable panties would make a great alternative to panty liners.

Fearless Leakproof Bikini

If you’re currently pregnant, start with the Fearless Leakproof Bikini. This cut will fit comfortably under your growing belly and give you an extra layer of protection while laughing at your toddler’s antics. You’ll also love that these panties are environmentally friendly, removing the need for single-use pantyliners, as well as OEKO-TEX certified, meaning that they’re free from harmful chemicals. You can feel safe *and* protected while wearing these panties.

Fearless Leakproof Brief

For postpartum moms, we can’t rave enough about the Fearless Leakproof Brief. The high-rise cut is snug and comfortable, designed from super-soft fabric. Like the bikini style, the gusset has three thin layers to protect you from everything from sweat to leaks, with thin being the key word. We know you don’t want bulky underwear!

In fact, take it from one of our mamas that the gusset doesn’t feel bulky at all:

“The fabric of the Leakproof Bikini and Brief is luxurious and extremely comfortable. The low-rise bikini cut is great for the pregnant momma, while the higher-rise brief cut is great for the postpartum momma. You would think that the padded crotch would feel bulky, but once you put them on, you forget that it’s there. The Bikini and Brief hugs your body nicely. They are also flattering and sexy!”

– Ariana Berlin

You’ll definitely want to grab a pair of two of the Fearless Leakproof Panties for both pregnancy and beyond. Both styles run $39.99 and they offer a bundle savings on three pair for $85.

Thanks to Kindred Bravely for making this sponsored post possible.

Coaching You Through the Fourth Trimester

Personalized Support for the 5 Biggest Baby Feeding Questions

Thank you to Emily Sylvester, MS, RD, LDN, IBCLC, and Founder of NurtureTalk for this guest post!

More and more moms are turning to social media as a hub of information or a source of social support in pregnancy or through infant feeding. I mean how cool is it to have millions of other moms, who have real life mamahood running through their blood, available right at your fingertips! But let’s be honest mama, sometimes it can seem like every other response you get expresses a different opinion with comments swinging all over the place. How many times have you read through a mommy social media post and left feeling more confused than when you started? As great as it is to get so many answers to what seems like your endless list of baby feeding questions, and have a posse of moms to lean on, you should never be left wondering what is right for YOU.

So what if mastering baby feeding was so much easier? This is where a baby feeding coach comes in.

I’m sure you know you can find a coach for anything these days -weight loss, money making, spiritual mastery, even bringing your sex life to the next level (yup I said it). Soooo it is time you gained this type of coaching power for the most stressful and unpredictable time in your life-birth and feeding baby.

NurtureTalk is a one-of-a-kind feeding support service giving moms unlimited access to a dietitian (baby feeding/mama nutrition expert) who is a board-certified lactation consultant (breastfeeding expert). Your NurtureTalk coach is there to coach you through any AND every feeding problem in your mama journey.

Continue reading to learn the 5 biggest baby feeding questions at NurtureTalk!

What is a baby feeding coach?

Every mom who subscribes gets a coach that is an expert in all baby feeding. Your NurtureTalk coach is there to help you navigate through any and every feeding problem in your mama journey.

Every mom deserves unbiased support from an expert who gets what you’re going through. And, call us crazy, but we believe you should get that support exactly when you need it so you can spend less time worrying and more time cuddling your bundle of joy.

Every single pregnancy is different and unique to a mama and her baby. That variation in experience is one of the things that makes motherhood so beautiful, and is also what makes it so challenging. What worked for your sister, mom, best friend, or even you two years ago may not be what works for you now. So, whether you are a first-time or veteran parent, coaching can take away the worry.

What if you want to formula feed or are not quite sure about breastfeeding?

Not quite sure? Well, we agree it is oftentimes forgotten in the baby feeding space that there are many paths to get to your feeding goals. Yes, at NurtureTalk we do love breastfeeding! This is because breastfeeding protects the health of you and your baby and is a beautiful opportunity to bond. We have seen NurtureTalk work to help moms achieve their breastfeeding goals even if they are not sure. Studies suggest that moms using NurtureTalk for feeding support are more likely to be breastfeeding at 3 months and less likely to have introduced formula at 3 months than moms who aren’t.

But, while we’re here, let’s clear something up. The number one goal with NurtureTalk coaching is always to feed your baby, keep them growing, and meet your needs as a new mama. Because if you feel informed in your choices, you will have all the mama power in the world. As registered dietitians, we have all the experience and knowledge in the world to advise on mixed formula and breastfeeding and formula choices.

Baby Feeding Q&A with NurtureTalk Founder Emily Sylvester, MS, RD, LDN, IBCLC

Here are five of the most common (and real life) questions we get from real moms navigating their feeding journeys and quick tips to help tackle them.

Note: Questions and answers have been edited for length and clarity.

Q1: I feel like in the first two days of feeding, I let her latch more shallowly and am now struggling to correct some bad behavior. Any suggestions for getting a deeper latch?

Things to look for in your latch. If you don’t see these, go ahead and re-latch! Corner of the mouth is “o” shaped. Now “v” or “I” shaped Nose starts out across from the nipple when latching so baby gets a big cheeseburger biteLips are flanged out (if the rest of the latch feels okay, feel free to flip them with your finger!)There is no clicking sound or puckering of the cheek when sucking and swallowingBaby is more on top of you than you are over them.

Q3: Should I wake him from sleep if it’s time to feed? He takes longgggg naps/sleeps. And how often? Every 2 hours?

Some babies are just especially sleepy!  In the beginning it can be advisable to wake him every twoto four hours for feeding. If your baby is falling asleep too soon during feeds you can undress him forfeeds, change his diaper before feeds or in between feeding the left and the right breast, or tickle orplay with his feet.

Q3: Can you tell me more about cluster feeding?

Cluster feeding is a time when your baby wants lots of short feeds over a few hours. It’s exhausting but normal and will often happen in the early days of breastfeeding. There is no particular reason why babies cluster feed, but some experts believe it might be a way to boost mom’s milk supply.
5 Tips To make cluster feedings easier: Relax your baby’s leadEat well Try to rest in the early part of the day to prepareStay hydrated! This is thirsty work Get as much partner and family support as you can
It’s exhausting now, but you can look forward to a sleepy, settled baby after feedings are done being clustered.

Q4: Is there any way to know if my supply is “right” and that my baby is getting enough milk?

Keeping count of wet and soiled diapers is the gold standard for assessing your baby’s intake! Once your milk comes in, you can expect around five or more wet diapers per day and at least three stools. If your baby has fewer than expected wet or soiled diapers or urine darker than a pale yellow, it might be time to follow up with an IBCLC or medical provider.

Q5: Is it true that formula is harder for my baby to digest? What’s your advice on transitioning onto a new formula – would you mix the two formulas or switch cold-turkey?

Breast milk is in fact easier for your baby to digest because it’s made specifically for your baby’s body.
I would not suggest mixing the two formulas. Either fill half of the day’s bottles with the old formula and use the new formula for the other half, or just start the new formula! Whichever way you choose to do it, it will likely take up to a week to see a difference, so I would stick with it unless there are some serious side effects. We want to avoid changing formulas too much too soon to see if there are any changes in tolerance and digestion.

If you have questions about feeding your baby and feel like you don’t know who to ask or what to trust. NurtureTalk can help! And unlimited means unlimited, so send that 2AM text. It’s ever too early, we swear! Visit www.nurturetalk.com or add NurtureTalk on Instagram (@nurturetalk) for more!

Pregnancy and Postpartum Wear from Kindred Bravely

by Christine Swearingen Leave a Comment

As an expecting mom, you don’t have to sacrifice comfort for functionality anymore. Get ready to say goodbye to bulky bras, unflattering gowns, and frustrating fastenings, thanks to Kindred Bravely. They have designed three ideal comfort fit maternity wear items that are ideal for your growing body: the Ultra Comfort Smooth Classic Nursing Bra, Clea Bamboo Short Sleeve Classic Pajama Set, and the Eleanora Bamboo Maternity and Nursing Lounge Dress.

The Kindred Bravely Ultra Comfort Smooth Classic Nursing Bra is the answer to your breastfeeding wishes! The bra fits like a glove with a seamless design that eliminates chafing and is undetectable under your clothing. Not only is it comfortable to wear, it has a flattering, feminine cut to give you that extra boost of self-confidence. The straps are adjustable and convert into a racerback so your new favorite bra pairs well with T-shirts and tank tops. It has a one-handed nursing clip that allows you to easily unclip your bra to feed your little one. The padding is removable which makes it a great option for night-time wear.

What goes well with a great nighttime nursing bra? Equally comfortable sleepwear, of course! The Clea Bamboo Short Sleeve Classic Pajama Set is ideal for warm climates and those hot summer months. The breathable bamboo fabric helps to keep you cool and dry even when dealing with hot flashes. The short-sleeved button-down pajama top eliminates the struggle of having to remove your top every time you feed. Forget fussing with clasps and zippers while pregnant or recovering from delivery. These pull-up pajama shorts have an elastic waistband that makes changing a breeze. The set also stretches to accommodate your body’s changes. It evens has pockets!

For daytime, Kindred Bravely created the perfect, fun dress, the Eleanora Bamboo Maternity and Nursing Lounge Dress. The airy dress is lightweight and breathable, made from premium bamboo fabric. It stretches with you as your body grows throughout pregnancy and makes for comfortable day or night-time wear postpartum. With the stylish design, you can easily wear it to school drop-offs or to grab some groceries, and yes, it has pockets too! The Eleanora Dress makes breastfeeding easy with a discreet panel across the top. Once the panel is lifted, there’s a second, lower neckline that gives better access to the breast. It goes perfectly with the Ultra Comfort Smooth Classic Nursing Bra.

You shouldn’t have to sacrifice comfort or style in order to have functional clothing. Kindred Bravely is making sure you can have it all. The Ultra Comfort Smooth Classic Nursing Bra, Clea Bamboo Short Sleeve Classic Pajama Set, and the Eleanora Bamboo Maternity and Nursing Lounge Dress are all designed with moms like you in mind. They’re made to grow with you throughout your pregnancy and provide comfort and functionality during postpartum, and beyond.

Making Life Easier for Moms: Kindred Bravely

by Christine Swearingen Leave a Comment

Things can get busy with a newborn and there is no doubt moms already have their hands full. From their own postpartum care to baby’s care and maintaining some semblance of balance within their home, the last thing any mom needs is something else that’s going to require them to be hands-on. Now imagine if they could pump breastmilk completely hands-free or nurse with ease?

Kindred Bravely created their Hands-Free Pumping Bras with the busy mom in mind. Their all-in-one bra offers multiple layers of comfort with its soft nylon, polyester, and spandex blend that is gentle on both mom’s and the baby’s skin. The innovative EasyClip system has one clip for the pumping layer of the bra and another for the nursing layer, allowing moms to unclip each layer separately so they can breastfeed and pump at the same time without issue.

The Kindred Bravely Hands-Free Bras are designed to fit all standard breast pump flanges, such as Medela, Evenflo, Philips Avent, Lansinoh, Motif, Hygeia, Freemie, Willow, and Spectra, so there’s no need to remove the bra while pumping. Best of all? The bra fits snuggly over the flanges to prevent spilling milk. Moms can pump while going about their tasks with peace of mind. The bra is fitted with a thin layer of padding to ensure there is no restriction to the flow of breastmilk when pumping and this padding can be removed if needed.

Comfort is a top priority for the Kindred brand and they delivered in this design. In addition to the extremely soft fabric, the stretchy material of the Kindred Bra fits your postpartum body and is ideal for all-day wear. The straps are fully adjustable making it easy for you to find the right fit for your comfort. The Hook-and-Eye closure makes it easy to put on or take off, giving busy moms one less thing to struggle with throughout the day. They offer a wide range of sizes from S – XXL, with busty options, fitting sizes 30B-44I, and all sizes come with a bra extender so moms can adjust to their body’s changes during pregnancy and postpartum.

Kindred Bravely bras can be hand-washed with a gentle detergent or washed in a lingerie bag on a delicate cycle in the washing machine then line dried. Lucky for moms, there’s no underwire to be concerned about when machine-washing. They do advise wearing breast pads in order to avoid stains, especially when using ointments or lanolin products. For moms who are concerned about leaking, Kindred Bravely also offers Ultra Absorbent Reusable Nursing Pads that can be worn with their bras.

There’s so much to adjust to with a newborn – from coping with this great change to navigating breastfeeding and keeping on top of your daily tasks. With Kindred Bravely Hands-Free Pumping Bra, multitasking like a mother can be done in comfort! As a bonus, moms get 20% off their first purchase with the coupon code – GUGUGURU20.

Thank you to Kindred Bravely for making this sponsored post possible.

What’s New on Gugu: December 11, 2019

by Abby Ludwig Leave a Comment

During the holiday season, it is so easy for moms and moms-to-be to forget to stock up on products to treat themselves! Below are some fun new finds from the pregnancy, postpartum, and motherhood market. We love these as gifts for expectant moms or as a personal gift to focus on the always-important (and never attainable) self-care! Let us know some of your favorite just for mom products!

For a number of our other favorites, please check out our Explore page!

NYSSA Postpartum Underwear: Called the ‘Fourthwear’ Collection, we love this update to the standard mesh undies you’ll receive in the hospital. They are stretchy and you can easily insert an ice pack or heating pad where it may be needed most. They can also be worn high-waisted or rolled down for maximum comfort no matter what type of delivery. Love these for all moms to be!

Soothing Scents Expecting Personal Inhaler for Morning Sickness: Those dreaded days full of morning sickness (or all-day sickness) can be behind you! Utilizing essential oils, this inhaler works immediately and is 100% natural. Check with your OB before purchase, but we love the idea of combating morning sickness without added medication.

GLOWE Maternity Leggings: These leggings will be supportive and comfortable from first trimester to the postpartum days! They will give you the support of a medical maternity belt without the bulk of wearing one. Plus they are made from a super soft Italian fabric so you will beat that back pain in style!

The Laundress New Mom Kit: It’s absolutely amazing how one (or two in my case) little babes can dramatically increase the amount of laundry you find yourself doing. The Laundress has created their New Mom Kit to help combat those messy spit ups and blow outs without harsh chemicals, petroleum, phosphate, phthalates, or artificial color. Plus I love that this kit comes with stain remover (a must for little ones) as well as all other detergent products you would need!

HATCH Mama Must-Haves Kit:  An excellent set for pregnant and new moms, HATCH has put together a set of three top selling products. Their Belly Oil is excellent for your moisturizing your growing belly. Down, Girl is  great for relieving swelling in your legs and feet. Nipple + Lip helps keep those special parts (your nipples and lips) hydrated during pregnancy and while nursing. Plus it all comes wrapped in the cutest gift box!

Please note that these opinions are 100% my own and I have not received any products in exchange for placement in What’s New on Gugu!

The Parent Collective was founded by a mom and has a range of prenatal and postpartum classes that are now available online. Great Causes: Satao’s Keeper

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

One of Gugu Guru’s most popular baby registries is our Cause-Driven Baby Registry, and today we’re introducing you to a this wonderful Mother’s Day gift idea or product to add to your own cause-driven baby registry. Satao’s Keeper is a retail company fighting to keep the worlds biggest creatures safe from poachers. With every purchase of a gorgeous cape, they donate 10% towards helping endangered elephants and rhinos. Satao’s Keeper is named for Satao, one of Kenya’s largest elephants. He was known as a tusker, due to his large tusks that almost touched the ground.  Sadly, Satao was poached for his ivory in May 2014. Satao, protected his heard until the day his life was taken.  Even though he is gone, Satao’s Keeper seeks to carry on and protect his legacy.

Satao’s Keeper is all about fashion with a cause, and we happen to think Capes are a must-have essential for pregnancy, postpartum and beyond. Capes are an essential closet staple for any mama, as they can cover a pregnant belly and keep her warm, transition you to postpartum life (hides all the bumps and lumps), and they make a fantastic breastfeeding cover!

All Capes are handmade in the USA by artisans from around the world. They would make a perfect gift for a new mom, or even your own mother or mother-in-law (as a nice thank you for letting you sleep!).

You can find Satao’s Keeper on their website and Instagram.
