Travel Essential: BABYZEN YOYO+ Stroller

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

When Gugu Guru’s editor in chief, Olivia, was heading on a road trip to North Carolina for Thanksgiving, she quickly realized that with two carseats, a husband, and luggage, there was no room for a stroller in the car too. She decided it was the perfect time to whip out her BABYZEN YOYO+ stroller and give it a whirl. She’s here to share why she thinks every single parent should add this stroller to their registry!

fullsizerender-8

When my husband and I decided to drive down south for Thanksgiving, I was super excited because I thought, “awesome, we’ll have a car and can bring as much baby stuff as we need!” Boy, was I wrong. Between the carseats, guitar case, luggage, toys, extra clothes, and food, there was not one inch of the Subaru to spare. However, BABYZEN heard my woes and was kind enough to let me try the BABYZEN YOYO+ stroller out for our trip to North Carolina. Off the bat, I loved the idea that the stroller would work for both my kids; my infant is tall for his age, so even at 5 months old, he fit in the stroller just fine.

yoyo

So, what’s all the fuss about the BABYZEN YOYO+ stroller? This stroller is like a superhero: it folds up in a flash! With most strollers I’ve tried, you have to dissemble the stroller and place the large parts in the back of your car or garage; there’s really no easy way to travel with most strollers. However, the YOYO+ folds up to hand luggage size (!); seriously, there were a few times we had the stroller out with us and my toddler wanted to walk, so we folded the stroller up and used the shoulder strap to carry it like a large bag. We didn’t have to go back to the hotel or car, we simply just kept walking since the stroller is so lightweight and easy to carry folded up. There is also a good sized storage basket on the bottom, so as we shopped, we could add items to the stroller instead of carry them. The few times my toddler was tired, he would ride in the stroller, while I wore the baby in the carrier, and my diaper bag would go under the stroller.

fullsizerender-7

The BABYZEN YOYO+ can be used from infancy to toddlerhood, with just a few easy swaps. From birth, baby lies parent-facing and never leaves your sight. BABYZEN YOYO+ comes with a totally flat carry cot for infants and a 5-point harness, a 3-position pop up canopy, a foot cover and a headrest. From 6 months and using the same frame, simply swap 0+ newborn fabrics to 6+ fabrics, and sit baby up to face the road. The YOYO+ backrest can be inclined to 145° in several positions, and features comfortable padding with a 5-point harness. Another reason this stroller is a must have for travel is the throw-up factor! Kids and babies get carsick, or sick eating new foods, and this stroller washes like a dream. All the fabrics come off and can be thrown in the washing machine, at home or the hotel (trust me, it happens).

fullsizerender-6

I’ve learned a few things in my last years of parenting, and one of them is that when you’re traveling, often times you don’t need to overpack because there are pharmacies, supermarkets, and Buy Buy Baby stores all over America – however, trust me when I say this – you cannot take another trip without this stroller. Not only is it lightweight, compact, and folds up in a flash, but the stroller is sturdy, safe, and also really nice looking! Both the toddler and baby took their turns in it, and they were comfy, even rolling over the hills of Carolina. If you’re pregnant, I highly recommend adding this to your registry today – and if you already have a stroller, I highly recommend asking Santa for this one too!

DIY Baby Headbands With See Kate Sew

by Gugu Guru 1 Comment

See Kate Sew partners with Gugu Guru once again to share a fantastic DIY tutorial.  This time? Adorable and easy to make headbands for the little ones in your life.

uppababy

I’m excited to be back at Gugu Guru this week sharing a knit headband tutorial! If there is one thing about bringing another baby into the house, it’s older child backlash! Whew, we’ve been dealing with some serious jealousy and behavioral issues with my older daughter but have found a few strategies to keep the attention equally divided!

The UppaBaby Vista Stroller is one of them! We love this stroller and it is pretty special that my 3-year-old gets the front seat. She loves peeking on her little sister and I think it makes her feel good that this stroller is really for both of them! I take this stroller everywhere, including the grocery store and walks. It’s super easy to set up, everything clicks into place! And the basket underneath is big enough for a whole load of groceries (I never get carts anymore!) It’s such a great single stroller and an amazing double! I recommend it to everyone!
uppababy5
The attachment options for this stroller are amazing! We love the cup holder, sometimes I use it and sometimes it’s a little snack shelf. And the Piggy Back Stroller board transforms this into a stroller for THREE. An older child can hop on and ride when she gets tired. The brake is super easy to engage and all of the features are just so functional. Each seat has a window flap that closes with magnets (no velcro!) and a bar in front. It’s so well thought-out!
uppababy2
I have lots more to say about using the Vista as a double, read my full review over at See Kate Sew!
uppababy3
Let’s make some knit headbands! Matching accessories is another way we are fighting the new baby jealousy. This project is super easy and only requires a scrap of knit fabric. I made this pattern in two sizes for little babies and larger toddlers/children. Since you tie the knot, it’s adjustable for lots of head sizes!
Materials:
-1/4 yard stretchy knit fabric
-Matching thread
–pattern pieces download
Instructions:
1. Print the pattern pieces and cut them out. Tape together where indicated on pattern pieces.

tutorial-1tutorial-2

2. Cut out the pattern and pin it to a piece of fabric. The arrows on the pattern will butt up against a fold. Cut 2 pieces.
tutorial-3
3. Sew together with right sides together 1/4″ from the edges. Leave a 1.5″ opening on one of the straight sides.
tutorial-4
4. Press the headband and stitch the opening closed.
tutorial-4 tutorial-5
And you’re done!

How To: Trick or Treat With an Infant and a Toddler (+ Baby K’Tan and Finn+Emma giveaway!)

by Gugu Guru 2 Comments

This month’s Cool Mom Picks Baby Registry Essentials guide features some awesome baby gift ideas for second babies. When you create your personalized registry on Gugu Guru, you’ll know the Cool Mom Pick must-haves in our product recommendations when you see this button:GG_CoolMomPicks-03

While Halloween is fun for kids, it can be a juggling act when it’s time to Trick or Treat and you’re balancing an infant in one arm and a wild Halloween toddler in another hand. Today we’re sharing our tips for Trick or Treating with an infant and a toddler and the Cool Mom Picks products to make All Hallow’s Eve night just a little easier on you.

CoolMomPicks2

1. Baby K’Tan  – This is a must have item for Halloween night! Use this if your baby is a newborn so that you can hold your toddler’s hand while he or she trick-or-treats – major plus – newborn will most likely fall asleep while you’re walking around, so no overtired newborn when you get back home.
PRODUCT WIDGET – ID: 5548a31863363658462a0e00

2. Double Stroller  – You’ll need a double stroller to push the two kids around in if you’re walking in the neighborhood; we love the UPPAbaby Vista for multiple kiddos.
PRODUCT WIDGET – ID: 5548a5376336362244360800
3. Carseat  – You’ll need a topnotch carseat, like the Britax Marathon Clicktight – consistently one of the highest (if not THE highest) rated carseats in the market.
PRODUCT WIDGET – ID: 57f4d619428ba01c11c3f970

4. Baby Brezza Formula Pro + new feeding essentials – You worry about getting the candy and toddler’s costume ready and let the Brezza get bottles ready for while you walk the neighborhood. Dr. Brown’s bottles are easy to grip if baby is self-feeding (plus glass is truly safe!)
PRODUCT WIDGET – ID: 55c335956336361868580200
PRODUCT WIDGET – ID: 57f4ef0659841f7b42cbeab3

5. Diaper Bag – It’s going to be a long night out on the town with the toddler (okay, maybe twenty minutes, but it will feel like hours) so don’t forget to bring a diaper bag with stroller hooks, like the Skip Hop Signature Diaper Bag. Believe us, you don’t want to be lugging around a bag full of all the necessities PLUS Halloween goodies on your shoulder or back!
PRODUCT WIDGET – ID: 5649c88c633636440b910300

6. Finn + Emma Stroller Toy – Little one waiting in the stroller for the toddler to slowly walk up to someone’s house for candy? The Finn + Emma Stroller Toy is the perfect way to keep baby distracted. They’re organic – so safe to chew on – and come in fun characters for Halloween like Jack the Pirate.

14524385_10206960471110820_2333211565481865593_o

7. Primary onesies  – Preparing for Halloween costumes can be totally overwhelming as a parent of two, so make it easy on yourself and head to Primary where you can pick any solid color onesie and make it a quick costume for the infant – like, a blush pink onesie makes a perfect little piggy!
PRODUCT WIDGET – ID: 569d65f6633636329ba80300

8. Baby socks – Speaking of quick costume ideas, Trumpette socks also are easy costume pieces for baby and reusable like the onesies – since it’s a waste to spend money on an infant costume that they’ll quickly outgrow or – worse – be uncomfortable in, and cry through the night when you’re trying to trick or treat with your tot.
PRODUCT WIDGET – ID: 55cb2e516336361f602d0c00
9. Baby book – Don’t forget to record all the exciting events of the night in a baby book – like this one from Lucy Darling.

PRODUCT WIDGET – ID: 57f4da022505ed1c625cdbae

10. Miracle blanket – Your toddler might be on a sugar high so get baby to get a good night sleep with the miracle blanket swaddle, which is proven to extend baby’s sleep time. Later you can attack that candy.

DIY Pacifier Clips

by Gugu Guru 9 Comments

See Kate Sew partners with Gugu Guru once again to share a fantastic DIY tutorial.  This time? A handy and chic pacifier clip!

Pacifier clips are a must-have for germaphobes. They clip to your baby’s shirt and keep her pacifier from hitting the floor. They are also nice when baby is in her carseat because you can find the pacifier easily and quickly just by following the cord.
uppababy-vista-bassinet

We modeled these photos on the Uppababy Vista System. We’ve been using this stroller since Mae came home. We brought her home in the Mesa carseat and use the Vista every single day when we’re out and about. I can’t say enough good things about this stroller, it’s been a total game changer for getting out of the house with a newborn! Read my full review at See Kate Sew!

Traveling Picks

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

By Gugu Guru Travel Editor: Mackenzie Dawson
I love to travel. Sometimes I think I feel most like myself when I’m getting my passport stamped or looking up train times on a Departures board. When was pregnant with my son, I worried about all sorts of things — but one of my concerns was that having a baby would “ground” me, clip my wings. A friend with three kids set me straight (this friend once went camping with 3 kids in Iceland, so she isn’t messing around.) “It isn’t going to be the same kind of travel, it’s not as light or spontaneous,” she said. “But you can absolutely keep doing it. It’s all about being strategic and having a plan.” Part of that plan? Lightweight, smart-use baby items that will keep your little one comfortable on the go.

Here are a few of my picks:

DockATot-Deluxe-Baby-Lounger-Modpod_1_8d5b1772-19c0-4333-8d52-9ef115aed525DockATot
How cute is this little nest? Use it at home when you want to give your baby a comfortable place to lounge; pack it up for a lightweight lounger when you’re on the go. Comes in 2 different sizes; Deluxe Dock for babies 0-8 months old, and Grand Dock, for 9-36 months. (I’m digging these print covers, but sadly, there is no adult-sized dock.)

BabyZen YoYoBabyZen YoYo Stroller
Any parent/traveler knows you don’t want to be stuck lugging a gigantic, bulky stroller around the airport; it’s not a good look. Super-compact, the YoYo stroller is the first stroller that’s compliant with IATA overhead baggage guidelines for airlines — just fold it up, stick it in the cabin and you’re good to go.

pockit-1

GB Pockit Stroller
For parents with older kids (6 months and older) there’s the GB Pockit Stroller which is the world’s smallest folding stroller available on the market. This stroller is seriously compact — easy to fold up, it folds into a handbag-shaped package (with handle) and only weighs 9.5 lbs. The stroller handles well on streets and sidewalks. Forget having to check your stroller at the gate; this is the kind of thing you can toss into the overhead compartment and be good to go.

71z5bJM2a2L._SL1500_

TwelveLittle Unisex Courage Backpack
When you’re traveling with a little one, luggage selection is everything — bringing too many bags will not only weigh you down, you’ll spend the whole trip frantically rifling through bags, wondering where you put the wipes. That’s why I’m a fan of this unisex backpack, which includes an interior padded tech sleeve for protecting your laptop, insulated side bottle pockets, nylon changing pad, and a hidden zipper pocket for, um, those clothing items you need to stow away quickly out of sight until you get to a washing machine, stat.

Spotlight on Christina Vargas + Bumbleride Indie

by Gugu Guru 3 Comments

Gugu Guru was so excited to be able to help the ultimate fit mama-to-be and professional athlete, Christina Vargas, with her baby registry. If you’re one of those people who regularly uses the #fitfam hashtag on Instagram, you’re probably very familiar with this I.F.B.B. and two time Olympian figure and bikini pro. If not, you can get to know her on Instagram here and follow her pregnancy and soon her postpartum fitness journey.

Here we talk about why the Bumbleride Indie is the perfect match stroller for Christina’s active lifestyle and her baby registry.

Christina was looking for a gorgeous, high quality, all-terrain jogging stroller to fit within her fitness-focused lifestyle that is also suitable for everyday use.  Chock-full of must have features like air filled tires, a large canopy and more, Gugu Guru recommended the Bumbleride Indie for Christina’s registry.

Christina Vargas Bumbleride Indie

Air-Filled Tires

Indie is equipped with  12″ air-inflated tires, including a lockable swiveling front wheel. The air filled tires make it perfect for on or off road strolls and the lockable swiveling wheel makes it appropriate for jogging or a trip to the supermarket. Christina lives in Las Vegas, which has various terrains from the city’s famous strip to Nevada’s beautiful national parks. She needed a stroller that can handle them all and Indie fits the bill.

Christina Vargas Bumbleride Indie

Oversized SPF 45 Canopy
Indie’s large, SPF 45 sun canopy extends to protect baby from harmful UV sun rays. Seeing that Vegas is known for its sunny, desert climate, a large sun canopy is certainly a must for Christina’s baby’s ride.

Christina Vargas

Ample Storage
Indie’s over-sized cargo basket can store all of Christina’s essentials. Since Christina is on the move a lot, especially back and forth from her home to her second home (AKA the gym), ample storage – to carry her clothes, personal items and soon baby’s items – is a necessity.

Christina Vargas Bumbleride IndieSafety Harness
Top safety features are a must have for any stroller and are crucial for joggers, where baby is traveling at a faster speed than normal. Indie’s 5-point breakaway harness keeps baby safe and secure without tangling up their little arms.

Indie Folded

Easy, Compact Fold
Indie folds easily and compactly, weighing only 20 lbs (not that Christina has to worry about heavy lifting.)

Eco Fabrics
Ever committed to reducing the environmental impact of their manufacturing processes, each Bumbleride stroller is made with post consumer plastic bottles blended into the exterior of the seat fabric (rPET) along with bamboo charcoal blended into the interior, offering temperature regulation, moisture wicking and an ultra soft touch for baby. Bumbleride makes gear for families to get out and do what they love, while doing their best to preserve the planet.
