Product Discovery: Milk Street Cribs

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

-Sponsored Post-

Milk Street understands very well that a crib is one of the most important purchases a parent can ever make. As they say, “It’s the only place where you will leave your baby unattended for up to 8 hours at a time. You want that place to be a haven; safe, comfortable, and beautiful.” This is why Milk Street’s mission is to create beautiful nursery furniture that doesn’t sacrifice safety for design.

It’s not surprising that Milk Street was created by a mother; when founder Julie Knisley became a mother she realized that the crib would be the only place her baby would be left unattended. Julie set out to create a crib line with the utmost of safety standards and the high-end designer look. Julie first began sketching cribs in a park in downtown Boston off of Milk Street and this is how Milk Street Baby earned its name. Milk Street allows Julie to bring her two passions together, crib safety and high-quality designs.

All of their furniture is hand-built just for you! As they say, “Just like pregnancy, all good things take time!” Once you place your order for Milk Street cribs and furniture, it will take about 12-16 weeks to build. However, they will be in constant communication throughout the process and inspections. Milk Street takes pride in the materials they utilize and safety tests their products endure. Raw materials are scrutinized and rigorously tested, more than 20 sets of hands will touch your crib during its hand finishing process.

Milk Street has a variety of crib and furniture styles, for nurseries of all design concepts, whether traditional, modern, casual, or contemporary. And, as most parents know, any baby related purchase seems like throwing money away because you use it for such a small amount of time in the larger scheme of your child’s life, however, Milk Street cribs are an amazing investment. Why? Milk Street creates furniture that is truly transitional and can follow your child from birth to teenage years. All of their cribs can convert from crib, to toddler bed to daybed and then double bed! As Milk Street says, “We blur the lines, giving you the ultimate freedom to design the nursery of your dreams.”

You can find Milk Street on their Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest.

Thank you to Milk Street for making this sponsored post possible.

DIY Toddler Game

by Gugu Guru 2 Comments

See Kate Sew partners with Gugu Guru once again to share a fantastic DIY tutorial.  This time? An easy and fun game you can play with your toddler.

Today’s DIY is a painting activity! This is a matching game made with paint on wooden discs. This is a pretty simple tutorial so you could involve your toddler in making it, if you want! The game itself helps teach colors, shapes and designs, which is an added bonus.

I’m always looking for activities I can do with my 4 year old while entertaining a baby as well and the Little Nomad mat has been a fun place for us to play together. We can pull out a little game or a story and set some toys out for the baby. Everyone is happy and we love gathering here.

This mat is so cute and flows nicely with my home decor. We have the mat in our living room and I love not having a primary color mat where we entertain! It’s nice and adult feeling but still functions perfectly for our little kids! The baby knows its her place space and loves to explore the mat! You can read more about it over at See Kate Sew!

Materials:

-2″ wooden discs
-colorful acrylic paints
-vinyl
-xacto knife

Instructions:

Cut out squares from the vinyl first and create shapes using an X-acto knife. Before cutting, layer 2 pieces of vinyl so you get two designs that are exactly the same.

You can use a hole punch, craft punches and other tools to make different designs. I made polka dots with a hole punch, a scallop circle with a scrapbooking punch and then made another by covering half the wooden circle with vinyl. There are lots of possibilities and you can take input from your toddler or older child, too!

If you are low on shapes, make multiple circles, for example, and paint a pair a different color.

Use paints to paint over the the vinyl.

Let the paint dry, then peel off the vinyl. Your shape will be nice and dry and you’ll be ready to play.

Hygge Baby Registry Ideas

by Gugu Guru

The Gugu Guru team is obsessed with a new concept this winter, “hygge” – have you heard of it? Hygge, pronounced HOO-gah, is the Danish word for cozy, and as the New York Times said in their recent piece on Hygge, “It is also a national manifesto, nay, an obsession expressed in the constant pursuit of homespun pleasures involving candlelight, fires, fuzzy knitted socks, porridge, coffee, cake and other people.” This cozy phenomenon is becoming more popular for families in America, and what’s a more hygge concept than a warm and cozy baby? We rounded up our favorite hygge baby products to help you get hygge with it! As the New York Times stated, “How to get hygge? Go home and stay there, preferably in your hyggekrog — a.k.a. “cozy nook” — wrapped in a blanket, drinking a cup of coffee…” We think all parents can roll with that idea!

Hygge Mama Ideas:

Bigelow Boots, Wool is Cool, $140; Slipper Socks, The Grommet, $20; Mama Bear Mug, $15; Calm Air Spray, The Good Home Co., $30; Calm Candle, The Good Home Co., $30; Rustic Pines Blanket, Glam Camp Shop, $79

Hygge Baby Ideas:

Baby Nordic Knitting Pilot Cap, Hanna Anderson, $10; Navy Cozie Baby Booties, Zutano, $21; Baby Nordic Ski Sweater Set, Hanna Anderson, $29; Baby Sherpa Lined Gnome Sweater, Hanna Anderson, $29; Medium Bashful Polar Bear By Jellycat, Hanna Anderson, $23

Cora’s Nursery

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

We absolutely fell in love with Lindsay Wilkins of Hello Hue Blog, when we came across her Instagram.  Then pregnant with her now 4 month old beautiful daughter, Cora, we love Lindsay’s sense of style.  The decor that she selected for Cora’s nursery is so special and eclectic; we find it the intersection of sophistication and simplicity.  The room is not overly designed and has lots of eye-catching gorgeous touches. We’re excited to share it with you today. Follow along as Lindsay lets us know about her choices to decorate this unique nursery.

First up – the crib mattress. Safety is of utmost importance when it comes to selecting a crib mattress. You may ask, “Can a crib mattress be a nursery accent?” Our answer is an emphatic YES!

breeze_1024x1024

Gugu Guru recommended Lullaby Earth Breeze crib mattress as a perfect fit for Cora’s nursery because, not only is it safe and breathable, it comes in a gorgeous array of colors as seen above – like this pink hue that Lindsay selected for Cora’s sleeping space.

We’re all about personalization on Gugu Guru and it’s also a huge trend in nursery. On Etsy shop, Lucy’s Letters, you’ll find wooden name signs available in a rainbow of gorgeous colors. The signs are all lightweight and perfect for personalizing a space.

sign

Next up – a key nursery accent: bedding. We love us an heirloom quilt over here at Gugu Guru. Lindsay selected Etsy shop The Feather and Arrow‘s beautiful quilt work for the nursery. Lindsay says that she loves the brand for its maker but also because the product is high quality, “Megan has a heart of gold and her quilts are not only lovely but so durable too ( believe me- we’ve washed ours several times already thanks to our little Poopy McGee).”

nursery4

One of our favorite touches to Cora’s gorgeous nursery is these absolutely stunning paper flowers from Amaranthus Paper Flora on the wall. Not only are these flowers beautiful, but they’re perfectly lightweight for hanging above baby’s head. This company is run by mother-daughter duo Meredith and Cherie, which makes it even more heartwarming.

Thank you to our brand partners at Lullaby Earth for sponsoring this post.

Product Discovery: Lalu Lenders

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

It’s no secret that babywearing has become popular for a variety of reasons; it’s great to have your hands free, easy to travel with baby, and a wonderful way to bond with baby and help them feel safe and secure. Baby wraps are the ultimate way to wear a baby because they are incredibly versatile, breathable, and can grow with your child. However, investing in a baby wrap can often be expensive, and if it’s your first time trying a wrap, new moms are often hesitant to invest. This is why we’re so excited to introduce you to Lalu Lenders, an easy and efficient way to try wraps out until you find one which works for you and your baby.

esther-edith-photographer-and-doula_-spokane-babywearing-photography-_16-edited_cd945df9-115a-4319-8762-6465090e9040

Lalu Wovens are known for their gorgeous wraps featuring modern patterns, available in all different densities. Their patterns and designs are created with specific meanings in mind, for example, their Demoiselle pattern features cranes in flight, which is symbolic of happiness and eternal youth. All of their wraps have textures that provides the perfect amount of stretch, bounce, and support for your baby. Their aim is to introduce wraps to all new moms and make it easy for them to find a wrap which they love.

So, how do they accomplish this? With their Lalu Lenders program! Lalu Lenders is a risk-free way to try a Lalu woven before you buy it. Lalu understands just how important it is to see, touch, and feel a wrap before you buy it. Lalu Lenders allows you to try a Lalu woven for just $10 per week. This includes free shipping and a pre-paid return envelope. You’re simply billed $20 every two weeks for as long as you have the wrap. The lender program allows you to test out a wrap for as long as you’d like. If you decide to buy it, you’ll get full credit for any fees paid towards the purchase of the wrap. It’s a win-win!

Back to Sleep Day 11: 4moms Breeze

by Gugu Guru 9 Comments

This is hands-down, one of the coolest play yards out there. Any seasoned parent will tell you that play yards can be so dang confusing.  Some have this whole step-by-step process of popping up the sides and then pushing some button in the middle while the sides that you thought were popped in wind up collapsing on you… (Wait, yeah, that’s not the way it’s supposed to go but that’s been our experience and the experience of many others.) And that is why the team at Gugu Guru just loves the sleep-certified 4moms Breeze. Learn more about whether this product is a fit for your lifestyle and/or baby registry then enter to win one below.

GG_BacktoSleep_2016-36

Traveler

Aside from its general ease of use and the fact that it comes with a convenient travel bag, the 4moms Breeze is so sturdy and well made that it is sure to withstand the beating that traveling baby gear typically takes. From being stacked on to thrown on a conveyor belt, rest assured that the Breeze can take it and will still provide a comfy, familiar place for baby once you arrive at your destination.  The fact that both the play yard and bassinet attachment wipe clean with a damp cloth is also a bonus when you’re on the road frequently.

gadget

4moms is really THE gear brand for tech loving parents. The company actually doesn’t call itself a “baby gear company” but rather a “consumer technology company that leverages robotics, technology and innovative design to disrupt and redefine.”  With its one touch open and close feature, the Breeze doesn’t disappoint in terms of disrupting the category.

nofuss

4moms calls its Breeze “seriously easy” and we agree, hence our No Fuss badge here.  To open the Breeze, you just give one push.  To close the Breeze, you just pull a single time.  Anyone who has ever battled with a clunky play yard of the past will more than appreciate the ease of use that the Breeze has to offer.  Furthermore, there’s something to be said about “so easy to use that a grandparent can figure it out” and that definitely applies here.

Gender Neutral Nursery Inspiration

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

As Zoolander might say, Gender Neutral is “so hot right now” and today we have some tips to create your most stylish and functional gender neutral nursery, along with some product suggestions and inspiration along the way.

Step 1a. Start with a focal point, like a crib or an eye-catching mirror.  We love this Dream On Me 5-in-1 Convertible Crib.

Step 1b. Select your crib mattress. Bet you didn’t know that crib mattresses could come in different colors? Well the Lullaby Earth Breeze breathable 2-stage crib mattress does and for our gender neutral nursery pleasure, we love the gray.

Step 2. Build around your focal point with complementary but functional items.  Don’t just add to add – trust us, you will regret filling your nursery with too much “stuff” later on. Your nursery should be as serene and uncluttered as possible. For storage and hampers, we love the whimsical bins from 3Sprouts.

Step 3. Choose non-toxic, high quality products that are built to last like a non-toxic, machine-washable rug from Lorena Canals. We are digging this gray ombre for gender neutral nurseries.

Step 4. Make sure you have a comfortable place to sit for those late night feedings. We are huge fans of the Nurseryworks Sleepytime Rocker – another high quality piece that will last.

Step 5. Invest in some good tech to ease your mind when both you’re present and not in the nursery. We’re big fans of the new Project Nursery baby monitor, which boasts the world’s smallest 1.5” audio and video Mini Monitor; perfect for taking with you around the house to keep a constant watch on the little one.  Talk about multi-functional – the aden+anais Serenity Star includes a feeding diary, sound machine, room temperature indicator, night light and clock. If you’re a music lover, adding some modern lullabies and rhythms to the nursery helps to create ambience. We dig the VAVA Voom Bluetooth speakers that provide 360 degree surround sound. Lastly, air quality is key and Crane’s smartDROP Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier is a high tech humidifier that increases air moisture for easier breathing and a good night’s sleep.

Step 6. Keep in mind that diapering can now be stylish too. With brands like Ubbi, a diapering station in the nursery no longer has to be a disorganized, plastic eye sore! We love their sleek diaper pails (including the awesome black triangles featured above that’s coming soon) and caddy.  Plus cover up a diaper changing pad – like this one from Munchkin – with a gorgeous cover from aden+anais and that corner may just be the chicest in the room!
