The Village Reviews: NOLEO Cleanser and Moisturizer

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

When choosing wipes and creams for your baby, ingredients matter. A single personal care product for babies may contain more than 30 ingredients! Nico Chery, the founder of NOLEO and a chemical engineer, knows babies deserve a safe and effective alternative. The NOLEO Cleanser and Moisturizer contains only five natural ingredients and replaces wipes and moisturizing cream. If you’re looking for a minimalist approach to diapering, you need to check out NOLEO. Our Gugu Village testers tried NOLEO and found the NOLEO Cleanser and Moisturizer works amazingly well, even for little ones with extremely sensitive skin.

This all-in-one product is our new favorite. We are relieved to find a product that is effective and natural, especially for our child’s sensitive skin. With only five ingredients (that we can also pronounce!), the consistency is just right and glides right on. It leaves her skin smooth and soft. One less product to keep on the changing table.
-Erica F., Mom to a 15-month-old

NOLEO wipe cream is amazing!! I LOVE how soft, smooth and gentle it is! I was skeptical about using something that is a cream and squirts out of a bottle, instead of a traditional wipe, but it works great. It even got rid of my baby’s red bum after the first diaper change using NOLEO. It is easy to use as you simply squirt the cream onto the organic cotton pad, wipe your baby and toss the pad into the garbage. There is no odor to the cream and it seems to even moisturize my baby’s skin. The pads are fairly absorbent but messy, poopy diaper changes require a few pads. This was the only difficult part as my baby is very squirmy so trying to keep her from rolling over while putting cream on another pad was a little tricky. For future uses after the first try, if I knew there was a poopy diaper, I would prepare a couple pads before starting the diaper change.
Pros:
  • Very gentle
  • Goes on smooth
  • Got rid of redness right away
  • Easy to use
Cons:
  • The pads were not neatly packaged so I took them out and laid them flat to make it easier to grab and apply cream during a diaper change. It would be nice if they could be packaged flat like make-up remover pads.
  • The pads are a little small for big, messy poop jobs. It would take me 3-4 of these wipe pads if there was a big poop so you have to plan ahead for big poop messes and get a few pads ready before opening the diaper .
-Jacqui W., Mom to an 11-month-old

When I used NOLEO the first thing I noticed was the smell of the product. It smelled natural. I was expecting something with a little more scent so that you can tell it’s for a baby. When using the product I did not notice any change with my little one, but you have to remember every child is different. He did not give me any problems when using it, which was nice, so it didn’t seem to phase him that I was using something different. Usually, with wipes (after you are done changing the stinky diaper and are waiting for the next messy one) there’s always a little odor left but I did not notice it as much with NOLEO.
-Nicole L., Mom to 15-month-old

Having twin boys with extremely sensitive skin, I was a bit nervous to start using a new wipe/diaper cream now that we’ve figured out a good routine. However, I have been blown away at how the NOLEO cream is able to both clean and moisturize no matter how big the mess. It was a little bit tricky to figure out the best way to transport in my diaper bag, but I absolutely love using NOLEO at home!
-Abby S., Mom to 2-year-old twin boys

I am always excited to discover new natural products for myself and my family so I was very interested in trying NOLEO’s Diaper Cleanser and Moisturizer.

Things I Loved:

  • Ingredient Transparency – I really loved the transparency of the ingredients of this product, they are proudly listed on the front of the bottle. I was able to feel fully confident in knowing what I was putting on my baby’s skin.
  • Gentle Application – The cotton pads and cleanser provided a very gentle application. I was happy to be able to clean and moisturize at the same. Sometimes regular baby wipes can feel a bit harsh and contribute to diaper rash, but this product was great for sensitive skin.
  • Scent – The biggest surprise about this cleanser is that it smells so good!

Things that would make it more awesome:

  • Portability – The only thing that would make it more awesome would be a travel set for ease of use on the go. I would love to be able to take this when going out for the day so an accompanied or optional 1 or 2-ounce bottle would be great.
  • Larger Cotton Pads for bowel movements – when changing my baby’s BM’s it would be nice to have larger sized cotton pads to help clean up the mess.

Overall, in the words of Marie Kondo, this diaper cleanser brings me joy.
-April A., Mom to an 8-month-old

As I prepare for baby #2 there are a few things I plan to do differently now that I’m a ‘seasoned’ mom. One of those things is cloth diapering. I didn’t know anything about cloth diapers when my first daughter was born almost 2-1/2 years ago, so we stocked up on disposable diapers and never looked back. The impact on the environment concerned me, but I didn’t think we had any other realistic options. Fast forward to today and I realize that cloth diapering really isn’t as complicated as I thought it would be. So since my 2-year-old isn’t potty trained yet, we’re experimenting now.
One thing I noticed about cloth diapers is that most of them recommend that you don’t use diaper cream. Wait, what? What do you do if your child gets diaper rash? Luckily this fantastic product from NOLEO not only replaces your wipes, lotion and diaper rash cream…it’s safe for cloth diapers! I wish I had found it sooner.
I love that it contains only a few natural ingredients. Did you know that many brands of wipes (even the ‘pure and gentle’ varieties) contain an abundance of chemicals? I was really disappointed when I looked at the package of wipes from the brand I had been using for almost two years. Having to apply the moisturizer to the cotton pad may seem like an extra step (what parent has time for extra steps?), but when you consider the fact that it’s not only safer for your baby AND you don’t have to apply additional lotion or diaper cream, you’re actually SAVING steps.
A little bit definitely goes a long way. One bottle will likely last 3-4 weeks and in that time can replace up to 150 traditional baby wipes! The wipes are made of organic cotton and just the right size to clean those little bums during a diaper change. If you have a baby with sensitive skin, these will help prevent any irritation as they’re free of bleach and other chemicals. I’ve even used them for my own skincare regimen – they make a great makeup remover!
After using this product for a week, I’ve noticed that my daughter’s skin is soft and smooth, which is hard to achieve during these dry winter months. When we first made the switch to cloth diapers, she actually did start to get a little red because the cloth doesn’t wick away the moisture the same way that a disposable diaper does. But after using NOLEO for just one day with each diaper change, her skin improved significantly, and she is now rash and redness-free. I would definitely recommend this to any parent with a child in diapers!
-Misty H,  Mom to a two-year-old with one on the way!

We live in a townhouse, so I have a diaper changing station on each level of the house. I already had a diaper rash cream for the upstairs station, so I used NOLEO for downstairs diaper changes. I am not an eco-mama, nor does my baby have sensitive skin, but we still love this product!

Sometimes it seems like wipes just get your baby’s bum wet, leaving you dreading eternal “drying” phase and I was SO TIRED of it! With NOLEO, you can actually leave it on!! REVOLUTIONARY.
I’ll admit, I was too chicken to fully replace wipes with NOLEO. We still use traditional wipes for dirty diapers, but the cleaning power alone is justification enough for buying this!
-Emilie C., Mom to a 1-year-old

I really like the fact that Noleo only has six ingredients. It goes on very smooth.  If my child’s bum was a bit irritated or red, I felt that I needed to put on an extra layer as it’s not thick like diaper cream. I do feel that the product helped with diaper rash. I could see results within the day.

I felt that the cotton wipes to apply the product are too small. Many times I ended up applying the product to my regular wipes and using it that way versus the small cotton wipes. My son was recently sick and was having big messes in his diaper and the small cotton wipes just weren’t cutting it.

If I could change anything about the product I’d recommend bigger cotton wipes with the product already applied to them to save the extra steps of shaking the product, opening it and pumping it on the wipe.  My children don’t like to keep still while getting their diapers changed and this step took more time. I also had to use both hands to get the wipes prepared versus grabbing a wipe from the dispenser with one hand.

Overall I liked the product and would recommend it.
-Brooke G, Mom to a 1- and 3-year-old

Best Diaper Pail Pick: Diaper Dékor

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

One of the top recommended baby items for any baby registry is a diaper pail, and we have the best diaper pail pick for all parents, styles, home decor, and homes with the Diaper Dékor. From being one of the most cost-effective diaper pails on the market to the fact that it can be converted to a regular trash can when baby is out of diapers, there are so many reasons that the Diaper Dékor is our best diaper pail pick. Read on to see why it’s so important to have the best diaper pail pick in your baby’s nursery.

best diaper pail

Diaper Dékor is unique in that it is a totally hands free diaper pail, which easily makes it a best diaper pail pick for parents, as it makes life easy without having to shove a dirty diaper into an overstuffed pail! The Diaper Dékor is the best diaper pail for efficiency, as you simply have to step on the pail, drop the diaper in, and you’re done!

What’s even nicer is that the Diaper Dékor comes in three sizes, so it can fit any household or need. The Dékor Plus Size holds up to 60 newborn diapers and comes in white, gray, mint, blue or pink; this size is the best diaper pail pick for families of multiples or who only want one diaper pail in the house. The Dékor Classic, “regular” size can hold up to 45 newborn diapers and comes in white or gray; it is a best diaper pail pick for smaller nurseries, grandparents houses, or for having one diaper pail upstairs and one downstairs. The Dékor Mini is the compact size, only comes in white, and holds up to 25 newborn diapers; it’s the best diaper pail pick for a secondary diaper pail, grandparents house, or the bathroom.

best diaper pail

Parents also love Diaper Dékor diaper pails because Dékor refills are continuous liners. No preset length means you can throw away one diaper or a butt load (pun intended) without wasting a whole bag. When ready to empty, open door and pull out the liner. Cut liner above the dirty diapers with the Child Proof Cutter. Tie a new knot in the liner and you are done! Dékor has a Safety Lock for the trap door to keep kids out where the diapers go in. The Front Button keeps top frame closed to prevent access to the refill. The child proof cutter positioned inside the access door stops little fingers from cutting themselves. The access door automatically locks when pushed closed.

best diaper pail

Most importantly though, Diaper Dékor keeps the smells away! Tough ABS Plastic doesn’t absorb odors, won’t scratch, dent or rust, and can be safely cleaned with household cleaners. Dual rubber seals under Odorkeeper™ Trap Door and under the lid seals in odors, keeping them out of your nursery. Plus, the Diaper Dékor is the best diaper pail for cloth diapers, too! You can use the Dékor when using cloth diapers with the Dékor Cloth Diaper Pail Liner. Special coating prevents leaking and wicking through of wet diapers, and it can be used over and over again just like your cloth diapers. Brilliant! There are so many reasons the Diaper Dékor is the best diaper pail for your family, cloth or disposable diapers, small or large dwelling, there is always a Dékor for you!

Real Mom Review SnoofyBee

by Gugu Guru 1 Comment

We had to review SnoofyBee! We first saw this awesome diapering invention popping up in our Facebook newsfeeds and then this past November, we saw the founders on Shark Tank and we just had to get our hands on one to try. Why was our interest piqued?  Ever try to change a wiggly baby? It’s no fun. Add a wiggly baby who likes to explore the nether regions during diapering and it can be a really crappy experience for a parent (yep, pun 100% intended.) That’s why we were so excited to try out the Clean Hands Changing Pad from SnoofyBee.

First off, let’s talk about what this product is. As the site explains, the SnoofyBee Clean Hands Changing Pad provides all the benefits of a standard portable changing station and diaper clutch. Aside from the 3-in-1 multi-purpose design, what is so genius about this product is its patent pending barrier to hang toys from and gently redirect your child’s curiosity away from the mess.  Review SnoofyBee
Here’s what Gugu Guru registrant and new mama, Sonny, says about her awesome experience with the SnoofyBee:

Review SnoofyBee

Pros

  • It does exactly what it’s supposed to; I could easily change her diaper without her little hands flailing in the way.
  • It’s extremely easy to get on, and she really can’t even interfere with the barrier going up. It just folds up and velcros. It also comes off easily. Once you unvelcro it it falls down flat – doesn’t curl over her.
  • I love the color/pattern.
  • It has 2 little rings to attach her own toys to for further distraction.
  • I could see this being very useful for travel as it would even contain a baby’s arms when you’re using a KoalaCare changing station, so he or she wouldn’t be rolling over rubbing little hands all over it!
  • It’s very easy to clean; all the sides are just a little stiff making it super easy to wipe them down.

Con

  • It’s still a little bulky once folded up for me to want to carry around in a diaper bag for daily use.

Mama Wellness: Nursery Wellness

by Gugu Guru 1 Comment

-Sponsored Post-

In honor of Mother’s Day coming up, Gugu Guru has partnered with Twiniversity to celebrate Mama Wellness – in all aspects. This week we are focusing on sleep, health, nutrition, getting out of the house, and new mama style. Today we’re highlighting products which make your baby’s nursery a healthy and peaceful space. Read on to learn more and enter at the bottom of the post to win an Ubbi Diaper Pail and Hawk + Sloane Stinky Spray, a Caden Lane crib sheet, board books for baby from Little Bee Books, a B.Box Caddy, an Angelcare Movement Monitor, and Pure Grace Soaps’ dryer balls for healthy cleaning.

Ubbi Diaper Pail: If you’re looking for serenity in the nursery (ha), the last thing you’re going to want is the smell of dirty diapers wafting through the room. Luckily, Ubbi has designed a diaper pail which not only hides the smell, but is a gorgeous piece of nursery decor. The Ubbi Diaper Pail is made of powder-coated steel to achieve maximum odor control. It is equipped with rubber seals that are strategically designed to lock in odors as well as a sliding lid that minimizes air disruption, keeping the smell inside the pail. To meet the needs of today’s eco-conscious parents, this award-winning nursery essential offers the convenience and value of utilizing any standard trash bag or reusable cloth liner. This feature makes it the easiest disposal system to load, use, empty and clean. Offering a modern and sophisticated twist to a once very industrial product, the sleek Ubbi diaper pail includes a child-proof lock and is available in an array of 13 colors and 5 patterns. All the style and none of the smell — a promising solution for every nursery.

You can follow Ubbi on their website, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Hawk + Sloane Stinky Spray: A must have for every house with a baby – a spray which reduces the smell of dirty diapers! This would make a wonderful baby shower gift. Stinky Spray works to eliminate that foul odor coming from the diaper or the diaper pail itself with its pleasing citrus fragrance. After each diaper change, spray the soiled diaper before disposing of it.

You can find Hawk + Sloane on their website, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Caden Lane Crib Bedding: What can we say about Caden Lane? We’re such fans of the delightful designs – they are truly a piece of art in your nursery! Little Bee Books, board books: One of the best ways to wind down with baby, even from day one, is to read with baby. Babies thrive from hearing words read out-loud to them, and it’s important to have books around the nursery for baby to touch, play with, and eventually read with you. Little Bee Books specializes in finding up-and-coming authors, exquisite illustrators, and book topics which will impress even the most squirmy of babes. Little Bee Books is a children’s book publisher founded in 2014, dedicated to making creative and fun books for busy little bees ages 0-12. Based in New York City with a small team of publishing veterans, they love creating a children’s list for today’s young readers.

You can find Little Bee Books on their website, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Pure Grace Soap’s Dryer Balls: Pure GRACE Soap makes handmade, all natural, small batch products for your bath, body, laundry and more. Their bath and body products include Bath Bombs, Bubble Bars, Bath Truffles, Sugar Scrubs, Lotion Sticks and Lip Chaps. Each product is made using a custom blend of skin loving oils and the highest quality ingredients. Wool Dryer Balls are used to replace the need for dryer sheets and fabric softener. In addition to no longer needing dryer sheets and fabric softener, the wooldryer balls eliminate static and help to reduce the amount of time the laundry is in the dryer therefore saving you time and money on your electricity bill. Cloth diaper mamas, we’re looking at you! This is a safe and effective way to get your baby’s clothing clean, without harsh chemicals or additives. These balls work in both HE and regular dryers and they last for years. This is a wonderful way to clean baby’s diapers, blankies, and clothing without worrying about allergens or chemicals.

You can find Pure Grace Soap on their website, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Great space saver for apartment living and ideal for two-story homes. Also makes a great art caddy or home organizer once your little one is toilet trained. Just pop a tissue box where the wipes box goes. BPA, Phthalates and PVC free. This is a great gift idea for a new mama, as often she is recovering from childbirth and can’t always make it to the nursery for changes – keep the Caddy around communal areas in the house for quick changes!

Product Discovery: Kurobaa Cloth Diapers (Cloth Diaper + Yooki Wool Giveaway!)

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

Cloth diapering has become increasingly popular in the last few years. Many pregnant moms and new moms prefer cloth diapers for many reasons – cloth diapers are super eco-friendly since you reuse the same diapers and aren’t disposing of many daily diapers in the garbage; cloth diapers are great for babies with sensitive skin; cloth diapers are extremely cost efficient and can even be used from one child to the next! Today we’re highlighting a brand new cloth diaper company founded by two moms, Kurobaa Diapers.

wintermint5website_1024x1024

Kurobaa Diapers began when two cloth-diapering mamas had tried almost every single diaper on the market and decided to create their own perfect diaper from everything they learned in their trials and errors. All of their diapers are OS – one size! What does that mean for you? It means you’ll save a ton of money because these diapers grow with your babe. Their One-Size Bamboo Fitted Cloth Diaper comes with a shell, soaker and booster included with every diaper.

wintermint3website_1024x1024

Kurobaa Bamboo Fitted Diapers have a diaper shell that consists of three layers: two layers of HEAVY bamboo velour and one layer of bamboo terry. The small, envelope-style waist flaps provide a snug fit without adding excess bulk, while two rows of waist snaps are designed to eliminate “crotch droop” and leg gaps. The diaper shell also has one set of rise snaps to extend the functionality of the diaper. On the smaller rise setting, the diapers will work well for younger babies too!

slide_2_1024x1024

Like the diaper shell, its long tapered soaker is also made of three layers: two HEAVY bamboo velour and  one bamboo terry. The length of the soaker can be custom folded to suit the absorbency needs of the child. And the best part? This diaper comes with a bonus three-layer OBF booster. Use the booster to extend wear time during the day, or to use overnight. All of the fabric used is Oeko-tex certified to ensure no harmful substances come in contact with your baby. The diapers come in 6 different colors, so you can choose what works for you (we suggest gender neutral colors if you’re planning on reusing again!). Since these diapers are a fitted diaper style, they are designed to use under your favorite woolies; Kurobaa suggests using Yooki Wool’s leggings and shorts with their diapers.

Like what you see here? Enter below to win a Kurobaa fitted diaper, a 4-pack of wipes and a pair of Yooki Wool Leggings of your choice (excluding Cadet, Titanium, Delta and Orchid).

As Zoolander might say, Gender Neutral is “so hot right now” and today we have some tips to create your most stylish and functional gender neutral nursery, along with some product suggestions and inspiration along the way.

Step 1a. Start with a focal point, like a crib or an eye-catching mirror.  We love this Dream On Me 5-in-1 Convertible Crib.

Step 1b. Select your crib mattress. Bet you didn’t know that crib mattresses could come in different colors? Well the Lullaby Earth Breeze breathable 2-stage crib mattress does and for our gender neutral nursery pleasure, we love the gray.

Step 2. Build around your focal point with complementary but functional items.  Don’t just add to add – trust us, you will regret filling your nursery with too much “stuff” later on. Your nursery should be as serene and uncluttered as possible. For storage and hampers, we love the whimsical bins from 3Sprouts.

Step 3. Choose non-toxic, high quality products that are built to last like a non-toxic, machine-washable rug from Lorena Canals. We are digging this gray ombre for gender neutral nurseries.

Step 4. Make sure you have a comfortable place to sit for those late night feedings. We are huge fans of the Nurseryworks Sleepytime Rocker – another high quality piece that will last.

Step 5. Invest in some good tech to ease your mind when both you’re present and not in the nursery. We’re big fans of the new Project Nursery baby monitor, which boasts the world’s smallest 1.5” audio and video Mini Monitor; perfect for taking with you around the house to keep a constant watch on the little one.  Talk about multi-functional – the aden+anais Serenity Star includes a feeding diary, sound machine, room temperature indicator, night light and clock. If you’re a music lover, adding some modern lullabies and rhythms to the nursery helps to create ambience. We dig the VAVA Voom Bluetooth speakers that provide 360 degree surround sound. Lastly, air quality is key and Crane’s smartDROP Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier is a high tech humidifier that increases air moisture for easier breathing and a good night’s sleep.

Step 6. Keep in mind that diapering can now be stylish too. With brands like Ubbi, a diapering station in the nursery no longer has to be a disorganized, plastic eye sore! We love their sleek diaper pails (including the awesome black triangles featured above that’s coming soon) and caddy.  Plus cover up a diaper changing pad – like this one from Munchkin – with a gorgeous cover from aden+anais and that corner may just be the chicest in the room!

Cleaner Diapering

Spring is here and summer is around the corner: time to dress your babe in that pristine white eyelet gown or perhaps a crisp new christening outfit. You keep these items hanging in the closet in anticipation of when you can break them out. It’s the big day and baby naps, baby feeds, baby is ready to get dressed. You carefully put the outfit on and pick up baby only to see that facial expression and hear that dreaded sound.

Oh, and by the way – there’s something on your shirt.

You know what we’re talking about: the diaper blow-out. Has this happened to you? Well, we have the cure to your poopy wardrobe malfunction ails: the award-winning BabyBackups.

Utilizing a hypoallergenic, wedge-shaped pad, BabyBackups fits securely to any diaper brand to effectively absorb and contain excess liquids, eliminating messy clean ups and ruined clothing. If you want to keep your baby (and you) clean, fill that diaper gap with BabyBackups. BabyBackups is a disposable pad that adheres to a regular diaper and keeps the poop where it belongs.

Here are some tips that the folks at BabyBackups put together to help make changing a diaper a bit easier and cleaner.

  • Set the mood. Don’t startle your little bundle of joy in the middle of the night by turning on a bright light to change a diaper. Use a low wattage blue light bulb instead of a white light bulb to keep the room darker. It provides enough light to let you do what you need to do but doesn’t trigger party time for your baby.
  • Keep them occupied. Keep a special toy nearby to let your child play with while changing their diaper. Keeping them focused, even for just 30 seconds, will allow you to at least get them cleaned off and ready for a new diaper.
  • Wrap the wrap. Lay a new diaper under the old diaper before changing it. In the event that you missed a spot on her little tush while wiping it, the mess will end up on the new diaper instead of the changing area.
  • Avoid a tinkle fountain from your little guy. Keep a cloth diaper around the changing table so that you can quickly toss it over your little guy’s privates if he starts to let loose. Or simply use a wipe.
  • Keep the mess where it belongs. Protect your baby, their clothes, and the changing table from messy diaper blowouts by using BabyBackups. Put one on at night and wake up to a clean baby and crib in the morning, even if your little one was trying to work one out while in dreamland! Plan ahead and apply a few BabyBackups to new diapers in advance so you’re always prepared.
