Gamechanger for Bathtime: Moms Love Bubbsi

by Abby Ludwig Leave a Comment

Looking for a bath routine to top all others? We had five moms test out Bubbsi’s Newborn Starter Set with their little ones. Bubbsi is revolutionizing the bath game. Utilizing coconut oil, they have created a line of bath products safe for newborns battling a variety of skin concerns. Eczema, Diaper Rash, and Cradle Cap be warned, you are receiving your eviction notice! Keep your little one’s skin nourished this winter with Bubbsi.

Abby, 4 year old twins, 17 month old twins, Chicago IL

Having 4 kids with sensitive skin, I am always on the hunt for new skincare lines. Generally, we look for things that are fragrance-free (and sesame-free, thanks to allergies!), tear-free, and easy-to-follow. Some of the skincare lines I’ve tried with my kids have had up to 8 steps, making them nearly impossible to complete daily. Our pediatric dermatologist has always spoken about the benefits of coconut oil, but when I tried putting this on my kids directly, we all ended up greasy and miserable. Enter Bubbsi! The answer to our daily struggles! First off, the bottles are adorable! Quite honestly, they became a nice distraction for my babies during bathtime. Next, they are refillable. No more spending $$$ on new bottles every time you need a replacement, and with 4 kids, it’s often! Lastly, they work! My kids’ skin was nourished, moisturized, and the steps were easy enough for my 4-year-olds to follow without any help. I will definitely be recommending this to my friends!

Anya, 1 year old + 3 year old, Rhode Island

I was so excited to try Bubbsi. I’m always looking for all natural products for my girls. They have super sensitive skin and sometimes get eczema from food allergies and colder weather. I love the fact that Bubbsi is almost fully naturally derived and I don’t worry about putting that on their skin. Both my girls have full heads of hair and I have been looking to try a shampoo and conditioner. The shampoo really cleans well but left their hair a bit dry so you definitely need to use the conditioner with it. The conditioner left their hair super silky with no knots and made it easy to brush out. As for the cream I was shocked. My younger daughter has little spots of keratosis on her arms and they almost went completely away after only one use and the diaper cream left her super smooth and protected. So excited to find Bubbsi and will continue to purchase in the future!

Katherine, 5 year old + 10 month old, North Carolina

I was given the Bubbsi head-to-toe set to try. First off, the packaging was super cute. I love that the packing peanuts dissolve in water! What a great way to help the environment. The products all smell wonderful. It’s a light scent, so it isn’t overpowering at all. My son and I both love the squishy feel of the bottles. The shampoo/body wash, lotion, and balm are soothing to both mine and my baby’s sensitive skin. We also appreciate that it is peanut and tree nut allergy friendly!

Overall, I give it a 5 out of 5! We will definitely be Bubbsi customers for a long time!

Erica, 2 1/2 year old + 9 month old, San Diego CA

I received the Bubbsi product via Gugu Guru and was so excited to try it out. Upon opening the box the smell was wonderful. I tried the body wash and lotion with both of my boys, age 9 months and 2 ½ .

Packaging: Absolutely love the packaging, design, and colors. Both of my boys immediately took to playing with the packaging. With that, I also had to make sure they didn’t have anything without supervision ☺

Feedback: The biggest thing I noticed was due to the consistency of the product and because it is cream-based, the water in the bath got murky. It’s inevitable that my kids put bathwater in their mouths, but this time I was careful to make sure they didn’t. I ended the bath a bit early so I could drain the tub.

Although I LOVED the packaging, smell, and overall look I wasn’t a fan of the creaminess and the residue it left in the tub. The lotion was great, but I found the small was just a bit too much for my kids and I used it on myself.

Thank you to Bubbsi for letting our moms test their products!

The Scoop: Baby Boldly Birth Bag – Fully Prepared

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

Preparedness and Motherhood rarely go hand in hand, but Baby Boldly has created an all-in-one hospital bag that will do just that. As a third-time mom-to-be, I should know everything that I am going to need to bring to the hospital for labor and delivery.  However, as a third-time mom-to-be, I have two other little loves to worry about packing for as well.  On top of everyday life – school, kids’ activities, work, meal planning, laundry, cleaning, etc. – preparing for baby #3 has been a little more stressful and a lot more time-crunched than I expected. Having the Baby Boldly Birth Bag: Fully Prepared pre-packed and shipped directly to me has checked at least one thing off of my list.

Truly Comprehensive –

With over 30+ unique pieces, my birth bag was packed ensuring I had every essential, not just some of them. With items to help with labor, nursing, showering, and any down-time in between I am confident that I will be covered.  Additionally, 1 thing I love is that there is still room left in the main bag for me to add in any personal items I might choose to bring as well.

Non-toxic + Practical –

I guess you could consider me a “Scrunchy Mom” since I strive to find a balance between choosing products that are as natural as possible but also are convenient.  The toiletries and personal care items included were sourced to ensure that they are non-toxic and contain quality ingredients especially as momma’s senses are heightened during this unique time in her life.  My bag included items from brands I was already familiar with and confident in like Pharmacopia, Burt’s Bees, Schmitt’s, Tom’s, Earth Mama, Bamboobies, and Rael.

The weekender bag itself is made from easy-to-clean nylon with vegan leather accents and features magnetic closures, a zippered top, and 10 pockets + a toiletry bag. As someone who typically packs in cubes and travel pouches galore, I am thrilled for the organizational options and the future possibilities to use it as a diaper bag, pumping bag, or duffle.

Designed by Mamas, For Mamas –

Maybe my favorite aspect of the Birth Bag: Fully Prepared is the support and thoughtfulness that comes along with it.  Right when you open the box, there is a note from the Baby Boldly team encouraging you and letting you know that you are not alone and that sentiment follows you throughout with details like a tag stating “You Got This” on the 2 in 1 Nursing/Infant Carrier Cover and “Strong as a Mother” written on the reusable water bottle and grippy socks.  Plus, in a more subtle way the inclusion of a sentimental book (for when you want to disconnect), honey sticks (hospital approved for energy), and a massage ball (cramps can be no joke!) show that this bag is the ultimate gift to yourself or a momma-to-be you love. It completely prepares you for birth in a hospital or birth center.

Thank you to Baby Boldly for making this sponsored post possible.

5 Real Moms Tell us Why This Teether is a Gamechanger

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

Is your little one drooling, looking to chew on everything in sight and extra cranky lately? He or she is probably teething! Finding the perfect teether for your little one isn’t easy, but when you do, it’s like finding the holy grail.

The Moonjax Teether is just that! Moonjax is made from medical-grade silicone and, due to the lack of small crevices and holes, does not harbor bacteria. It is easy to clean and a favorite among babies. Our Gugu Village parents were able to test the Moonjax Teether. Here our Gugu Village product testers give us their real thoughts on the Moonjax teether.

Moonjax teether

David T. – Baby: 9 months

The Moonjax teether is a great product! Our daughter immediately grabbed for it and probably played with it, twisted and felt all the little bumps for about four minutes before chomping down on it. The teether is soft and squishy in the middle and a little bit firmer on the ends, which is a nice change for our little girl especially on days when those gums are angry! The unique design of the product allows our daughter to grab it in whichever hand and whichever way she wants and hang onto it when she’s biting down hard. The fact that we can chill the teether helps a lot and our daughter loves having the soft cold squish of the silicone to numb her gums. Overall we’re very happy with the product and I imagine it will get a lot of use while those teeth continue to push up.

Moonjax teether

Leanne P. – Baby: 3 months

My little guy has been chewing everything in sight and now has a new favorite toy, the Moonjax Teether. He was unsure at first but within a few minutes, it quickly became an appendage. It’s so easy for him to hold, he grabs it and likes to bring it with him when I carry him around. As a mama, I love the fact that it is completely solid so water and bacteria can’t get trapped. It’s so easy to wash and dry, and I love the fact that I can throw it in the dishwasher. I get some peace of mind knowing that it isn’t made with any dyes that could negatively impact my baby.

Daron O. – Baby: 4.5 months

The Moonjax Teether is fantastic! My 4.5-month-old doesn’t seem too fond of any other teething toys, rings, etc. besides our fingers and knuckles so I was immediately interested in this teether. Whenever we offer this teether he takes it right away. My fingers say THANK YOU! He likes to chew and suck on it. It seems like a great toy for motor skills and hand-eye coordination as well. He likes grabbing and holding it with both hands. I also like that it’s super easy to clean. I LOVE that I actually saw my baby’s tongue sticking out of his mouth while gumming this! He had his tongue tie revised twice but is still reluctant to use his tongue…until the Moonjax Teether!  Since his teeth aren’t quite as far along, we don’t know if it provides relief of pain, but we are very optimistic.

Katherine H. – Baby: 8 months

I’ve been looking for a good and entertaining teether for my 8 month old son.  This one certainly fits the bill!

His first encounter with the Moonjax teether lasted longer than anything else I’ve introduced for him to chew on.  He can easily grab the teether and likes munching on the different nubs. I saw he repeats using one to get to his back gums where I think the new teeth are coming in. I loved that it’s BPA free, dishwasher safe, and made in the USA. But more importantly, my son loves it! We’ve also tried it cold from the freezer and he liked that too. It maybe doesn’t hold the cold for as long as the gel ones but he doesn’t seem to mind. I would recommend this teether to friends and family!

Alyssa N. – Baby: 9 months

It seems my 9-month-old son is a long, drawn-out teether, so I was really excited when Gugu Guru and Moonjax sent us the Moonjax Baby Teether to try! His top two teeth are trying to break through for weeks and all of the teething products I used with my older daughter do not hold my son’s interest. The Moonjax teether has a really sleek design compared to a lot of the other products on the market, and I love that it’s 100% silicone, which gives me peace of mind that it’s safe for my baby and easier to clean and sterilize. My son seemed to enjoy the teether at first, but alas, it still didn’t hold his interest as much as the plastic play food from the play kitchen. Since I have a crawler, I also noticed that when he crawled with the Moonjax in hand it would pick up any little piece of lint or dust on the floor, so that was kind of a bummer. It definitely wouldn’t be great for a home with pets. We’ll probably keep it in the diaper bag to use on the go when he’s a little more contained in the stroller. I still hold out hope that the Moonjax will become a favorite teether later on when molars come through. The ‘jacks’ design seems like it would be great for reaching those back teeth and providing relief!

Charitable Holiday Gifts

by Christine Swearingen Leave a Comment

Sometimes, you just don’t need any more “stuff”! We rounded up some of our favorite charitable causes for gifting this year from honor gifts, to gift cards, to monetary donations to worthy causes.

Gifts for Moms

The Hunger Project: The mission of The Hunger Project is to end hunger and poverty by pioneering sustainable, grassroots, women-centered strategies and advocating for them in countries throughout the world. They believe that to achieve a sustainable solution to hunger, those living in hunger need access to education and tools to end hunger for good.

Postpartum Support International: Did you know? 1 in 7 Moms and 1 in 10 Dads suffer from postpartum depression. Postpartum Support International is a non-profit organization serving the needs of pregnant, post-loss, and postpartum women and families all over the world, at no cost to women and their families. They provide direct, informed support and resources to families, train professionals, and connect them together.

Every Mother Counts: Every Mother Counts works to make pregnancy and childbirth safe for everyone, everywhere. They work to achieve quality, respectful, and equitable maternity care for all by giving grants and working with partners and thought leaders to increase awareness and mobilize communities to take action.

Heifer International: Heifer International works to end hunger and poverty in partnership with the communities they serve. The programs support entrepreneurs around the world, beginning with a seed investment of livestock or agriculture, followed by mentorship to help project participants build a business, and ultimately to gain access to supply chains and markets. These families are able to earn a living income and continuously lift up their communities as they train the next generation of leaders.

Gifts for Babes

Ferst Readers: Ferst Readers wants every child to have the best start in life, and the key is having books in the home and being read to from birth. Children in the Ferst Readers literacy program receive a bookstore-quality, age-specific book, and resources mailed to them at home every month until their fifth birthday. It’s this access to print that helps create a language-rich environment in the home.

March of Dimes: March of Dimes leads the fight for the health of all moms and babies, with the belief that every baby deserves the best possible start. Today, they educate medical professionals and the public about best practices; support lifesaving research; provide comfort and support to families in NICUs; and advocate for moms and babies. They guide moms through every stage of the pregnancy journey and are fighting for babies and advocating for their health with the tools, technology, and knowledge needed to build a brighter future for all.

National Diaper Bank Network: Did you know that 1 in 3 U.S. families experience diaper need? The NDBN provides the necessities required to build the strong foundations all children, families, and individuals need to thrive. Babies without clean diapers are exposed to more potential health risks. In partnership with diaper banks, allied programs, donors, sponsors, and elected officials, they work to end diaper need and period poverty in the United States.

World Vision: World Vision is a Christian organization working to help communities lift themselves out of poverty. They do this by partnering with children, families, and their communities to tackle the root causes of poverty and injustice through health, education, economic empowerment, and more.

Smile Train: Smile Train is an international children’s charity with a sustainable approach to a single, solvable problem: cleft lip and palate. Children with untreated clefts around the world have difficulty eating, breathing, hearing, and speaking. Cleft treatment is safe, and the impact on the child is immediate. Smile Train has supported more cleft surgeries than all other global charities combined. They partner directly with local hospitals to strengthen health systems and empower local medical professionals to offer surgical services and comprehensive cleft care to children in their own communities.
