5 Quick Ways to Refresh the Nursery for Spring

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

Doesn’t it seem like as soon as Springtime hits, there is a desire to update everything in your house? Call it Spring Cleaning (or maybe nesting?), but everything seems to need to be lightened up, cleaned up, and refreshed for Spring! We rounded up some of our favorite quick and easy ways to refresh your baby’s nursery for Springtime.

Change up the walls: One of our most favorite ways to quickly change up the look of a room is with wall decals, and when it comes to wall decals, we love Urbanwalls! Created and founded by a mom, Urbanwalls is our go-to place for both gorgeous wall decals and removable wallpaper. If you’re an urban dweller and can’t paint the walls of your apartment, removable wallpaper allows you to express yourself creatively and make your space your own without any trouble down the line of re-painting or taking sticky wallpaper down. Their wall decals could easily adorn any room in your house, but when it comes to the nursery there are just way too many adorable choices to choose from. Plus, you can even personalize some of them with your baby’s name – this is a fantastic way to get the nursery ready for baby without painting anything new! Check out all of the nursery decals here!

Add (faux) flowers: It surely isn’t a Spring refresh if you don’t add flowers – but, sometimes flowers can be sensitive for little noses, so we love weaving faux-flowers into a nursery. These Little Sparrow Co floral letters can be customized to match your nursery’s color scheme – and even use succulents or pompoms, too! These also make a sweet addition to your baby’s monthly photos; simply get the letters of their initials and you can snap a photo every month next to the letters to see how big they’ve gotten in comparison.

Get Some Spring Cleaning Done: When the Spring Cleaning bug hits you, you simply want to take the house apart and clean and refresh every little hting – which, of course, isn’t always possible with a baby in tow – which is why we love the Totokan Baby Monitor. Totokan is a portable and water-resistant baby monitor which allows you to worry less and spend more time enjoying family life. It is so easy to use, just download the free app and connect to your camera, and you’re good to go – feel free to Spring clean all over the house and keep an eye on your little one. You can even take it outdoors to do some gardening, as it is compact and drop- and water-resistant. It’s also ideal for on-the-go, as you sync directly to the monitor without relying on a strangers WiFi signal. Feel free to Spring clean your nursery, house, and do a little landscaping while keeping an eye on baby the whole time!

Organize the Clutter: The BBox Diaper Caddy not only adds a lovely light color to the nursery for Spring, but helps majorly with spring cleaning and organizing of all of baby’s changing items. This light and portable change station ensures you have everything you need for diaper changing wherever you are around the house (some moms also use it for nursing supplies!). For all of our urban dwelling parents, it is a great space saver for apartment living and ideal for two-story homes. Also makes a great art caddy or home organizer once your little one is toilet trained. Just pop a tissue box where the wipes box goes. Plus, it is BPA, Phthalates and PVC free.

Change up the blankets: A really quick way to refresh and lighten up a nursery for Spring is change up the baby blankets! Instead of overly warm plaid blankets from winter time, go for light colored thinner blankets for Spring and summer. We love the gorgeous assortment from Little Faces Apparel – you can actually choose between an organic cotton swaddle and a spandex cotton swaddle!

NoJo Bedding For Gender Neutral Nurseries

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

When it comes to crib bedding, it seems like an overwhelming decision for many parents – it has to be comfy and soft, but you also want a design to match the nursery and your home decor style. We’re so excited to introduce you to NoJo Bedding‘s new designs including bedding from the Disney Baby branded collection –  we love both of these designs because they are gender neutral and would both transition really well as baby grows older, too. We asked two real mamas to check out Disney Baby’s Winnie the Pooh set and NoJo’s Aztec Forest bedding set and snap some photos to show you how it looks in real homes! Which one of these two designs is your favorite?

The adorable NoJo Aztec Forest 4-Piece Crib Bedding Set includes a double-sided comforter, crib sheet, crib skirt, and nursery organizer; mom of three littles, Brittney Knudsen was thrilled her baby boy loved the set and all of the animal faces.

We’re digging the Adventure Awaits crib sheet; it’s gender neutral and would be perfect for any woodland, Aztec, or forest themed nursery. You can find Brittney and see more photos of the NoJo Aztec Forest Bedding on her Instagram.

We are so in love with this new take on Disney Baby’s Winnie the Pooh Set made by NoJo! Normally known for bright colors, this Disney Baby Winnie the Pooh design is more muted, which makes it ideal for any gender neutral nursery and could easily grow with your child, too. The Disney Baby’s Winnie the Pooh 3-Piece Crib Bedding Set includes a comforter, fitted crib sheet and crib skirt for a beautifully coordinated look.

Mama of three (and a friend of Gugu Guru’s!), Lindsay Satmary loved how the Disney Baby Winnie the Pooh bedding made by NoJo matched her nursery and could easily be used by her two boys or adorable little girl (look at that face!). You can see more snaps from the Disney Baby Winnie the Pooh collection on Lindsay’s Instagram.

Nursery Inspiration: Floral For Two

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

Our friends at Curated Nest are back to share some nursery inspiration for every budget; they know how costly it can be to design a nursery for twins, so they’re here to share different price points for a floral nursery fit for two! You can find mamas Erin and Lina of Curated Nest on Instagram at @curatednest, behind the scenes of their trendy online nursery boutique www.curatednest.com, or at erinandlina@curatednest.com!

As a mom of one smart-mouthed toddler, I can’t fathom hearing two heartbeats over the ultrasound monitor at that first OB visit. My friend described it as gulping down an excitement, joy, and anxiety smoothie that you wish had a couple shots of vodka. Preach it like you feel it girl!

As nursery and kid’s interior designers and nursery store owners, we at Curated Nest see customers stressing over budgeting for two. Here’s a cool way to see how you can get a beautiful and not too baby-ish nursery for your twinsies at a price point you are comfortable with. We’ll show you how a single source of inspiration can create 3 nurseries at high, medium, and lower budgets.  We’ll go with pink, oversized, florals as our inspo, since the trend we saw in 2017 is here to stay for 2018. More peonies, please!

These are examples of real style boards that our small shop, Curated Nest, did for real customers.

The high “designer” budget example has unique convertible cribs from Australia, a bone inlay cabinet, and a handmade designer chandelier with glass beads. And the star element is of course, the watercolor floral wallpaper. Considering items not shown on this style board, such as a rug, glider, etc., this nursery is an estimated $7K.

Georgia Crib / Pink Bone Inlay Cabinet / Jolie Wallpaper / Chloe Chandelier / Unicorn Wall Mount / Bunny Wall Mount / Swan Lake Mobile / Large Blush Pom Pom Bin / Medium Blush Pom Pom Bin

The medium budget example uses oversized floral decals that can be placed in any pattern you like on your wall, and features the stunning rose gold Ellie Crib that Serena Williams made famous in her daughter’s nursery. It’s keeps the sophistication of the high budget nursery, and with additional items not shown, is around $5K.

Ellie Crib / Lucy Dresser / Lyla Decals / Fawn Crib Sheet / XO Art Print / Harp Chandelier / Unicorn Wall Mount / Bunny Wall Mount / Large Blush Pom Pom Bin / Medium Blush Pom Pom Bin

The lower “look for less” budget example uses smaller floral decals that do a pretty amazing job of mimicking the high budget wallpaper at 1/3 the price! The crib and accessories are whimsical, creating a more playful feel. But still super rad and totally Instagrammable! Considering additional pieces not shown, this nursery is an estimated $2,800.

Abigail Crib / Bethany Rocker / Mallory Decals / Organic Rainbow Crib Sheet / Pink Petite Ruffle Crib Skirt / Plush Heart Play Blanket / Swan Art Print / Hearts Garland / Donut Storage Bin / Strawberry Ice Cream Storage Bin

While the prospect of twins or multiples might be overwhelming, gorgeous, functional nurseries are achievable at lots of different budgets. Decide what you’re comfortable with, and enjoy creating a haven for your babies, even if a glass of wine is what you crave. Check out Curated Nest’s Instagram for more ideas or sign up for Gugu Guru’s Concierge Service to get a customized design by Curated Nest for you!

B. The classics: soft, light, and neutral

C. Respite from concrete jungle: nature inspired

Nursery DIY: Skyline Mural with Youthful Nest

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

One of the most exciting parts of being pregnant is designing and curating the nursery for your baby, and Youthful Nest makes it unbelievably easy for parents to create the nursery of their dreams. Created and founded by designer, Lisa Janvrin, YouthfulNest is a new online interior design consulting firm which helps parents bridge the gap between their online design inspiration into real-life, well-designed rooms. Lisa’s blog is full of amazing nursery inspiration as well as D.I.Y tips for creating unique designs and items for your dream nursery – on a budget! Lisa is here today to show how easy it is to DIY a NYC Skyline Mural in your nursery. You can learn more about Youthful Nest here, and don’t forget to check out their newest crowdfunding campaign to make Youthful Nest even more accessible to all parents!

Sky’s the limit when it comes to decorating a nursery no matter what the style. Our favorites are thoughtful elements that are either personalized or customizable so you can make them your own and compliment your design inspiration. One of the big design trends is painting an oversized graphic wall mural. Whether it is a mountainscape or cityscape, pick a placement and paint colors that are just right for your space. With the YouthfulNest DIY Skyline Mural kit you don’t have to freehand anything, rather choose from 10 building templates of various sizes and shapes. You also can recreate the mural with any color scheme desired from pastels to pop colors – whatever your vista requires. For a video tutorial check this DIY Skyline Mural, How-To Video.

The DIY Skyline Mural kit includes 10 individual paper stencil buildings. Each building stencil has basic instructions for application. You can use one or all of the buildings together to create the complete skyline. Basic Instructions: 1. Cut out building shape on dotted line; 2. Affix to wall with small pieces of painters tape; 3. With a pencil trace outline of building template; 4. Remove paper templates; 5. Place painters tape along the outline of the entire shape; 6. Paint with color of choice within the taped outline. Enjoy!

Meet the Maker: Milk Street Baby Cribs

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

-Sponsored Post-

When Milk Street Baby first debuted their gorgeous cribs, we were so excited to share them with you! And now, we are thrilled to introduce you all to Julie Knisley, the founder and designer of Milk Street Baby. Milk Street Baby is not only known for their modern designs with a traditional twist, but steadfast commitment to safety – which is why we are eager to have you learn more about Julie and her fantastic line of cribs and furniture during Baby Safety Month. Check Milk Street Baby out on their website, Facebook, and Instagram.

Why did you want to start Milk Street?

Milk Street was born after years of experience designing for other crib companies. I saw corners cut and facts incorrectly stated. I had no control and no final say in final production quality. I started and run Milk Street so I can make certain that we are offering moms and dads the absolute best crib on the market at our price. We offer real product as well as complete transparency to families. And, we encourage new moms to utilize the supplier of their local baby specialty store. These retailers we have partnered with know this niche and will offer a lifetime of support and education [editor’s note: we love this!]. Seems with all the online options these days, young parents assume that if a company is making cribs that those products are safe for baby. ASSUME NOTHING. I have seen the other side of this and know that not all cribs are safe. We want to educate our customers and the questions to ask as well as the answers to maximize wellbeing of that baby. There is nowhere you would leave your baby alone and unattended other than in the crib, that crib must be a safe haven.

What is your background in design and how did you come to care so deeply about baby safety?

My background is in furniture design, and I got my start creating children’s chairs for a company who produced cribs. I was working for the company that had a HUGE recall involving several baby deaths. This was when I realized someone needed to become an expert in all aspects of safety. I spent time in the testing labs and in countless factories to figure the specific parameters to design within.

I believed then and still do today that a crib is one of the most important purchases you will make in your lifetime. I wanted to design and produce a safe, beautiful crib for every type of family.

What is so significant about your commitment to safe finish AND design?

Safe finish is probably the single most important aspect of what we do, and an extra and costly step that no one else is doing. Construction and basic coatings tests are required to pass ASTM and CPSC standards. The construction standards are quite stringent but when it comes to coating, we feel we need to go the extra mile! Content finishes found in a nursery is incredibly important to the development and well being of your baby. We test every single layer of our finish — sometimes that mean 8 different layers — for phylates and heavy metals. Our competition only tests once… their finish. We test every layer because while there may be appropriate levels to phylates in that top coat/ single finish board when being tested…. over time and if top coat gets nicked or scratched… these phylates and other chemicals can seep through that top layer. We test every single layer and provide customers with complete results!

Why should parents invest in Milk Street cribs?

I believe we offer not only the best product on the market made from solid wood and veneers to the best functions, scale of design, and finish. Our quality is strong, and our pricing for what you are getting is unheard of. In fact, in talking about price, I went way below what my partners though these should be priced at. I wanted young families to be able to afford a real quality crib that would last the lifetime of their child. All of our cribs convert to be used long after the nursery. You can be sure you are getting an amazing value in every one of our cribs. Our cribs are made with love and held to the highest standards possible. Our company is the only crib company owned and managed by women!

What can Milk Street do for families? How can they enhance the overall safety and health of the house?

Milkstreet can provide your families with:

  • Peace of mind
  • Family heirloom that stays with child through adulthood
  • Cutting edge look
  • At Milk Street, our goal is to provide safety, support and edgy designs for our moms and dads. Julie Knisley has designed for the best brands in the world, and she founded Milk Street to find a way to maximize design within the limitations of a crib and to insist upon creating the safest haven for your little ones.

Thank you to Milk Street for making this sponsored post possible.

A Starry Nursery with Angelique Cabral

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

Angelique Cabral, from CBS’ Life in Pieces, is not only a well-known actress, but a long time yoga-devotee as well. So, when it came time to deciding on a theme for her baby girl’s nursery, she knew she wanted to go with serene, etherial, and starry. We are so excited to show you Angelique’s starry nursery today – it even matches with her baby shower theme, too!

Don’t forget to check out Angelique’s thoughts on babymoons, and her top picks for maternity workout gear!

When it came to having a newborn baby, Angelique knew she wanted the Halo Bassinest for her starry nursery; she is having a c-section, and many moms have said that the Halo Bassinest, with its 360 degree swivel and high height was perfect for taking care of a newborn post c-section. You can see a real mom review of the Halo Bassinest, why we picked the Halo Bassinest for Back to Sleep, the Halo Bassinest as an essential item for baby’s first night home, too.

Angelique picked a Colgate Mattress for her baby, as they are American made, lightweight, and Greenguard certified. See why we think Colgate mattresses are the best investment you can make for your nursery, and even why they make great gifts! Plus, meet the makers behind the mattresses – it is a family run company and proud! PS. The artwork above the crib is from The Animal Print Shop.

When it came to changing table gear, Angelique wanted to make sure she was ready to go! The Crane Humidifier is one of Gugu Guru’s favorite nursery items (it’s an essential for new babies!), and the white Crane Drop Humidifier matches her nursery theme. When it comes to soaps, creams, and baby products, we always turn to Babyganics for a safe way to keep baby clean and comfortable. The Babyganics Hand Sanitizer is a must-have essential for having a new baby in the house. Mama Rachel Pitzel says Babyganics is her top pick for an eco-friendly nursery.

It’s no secret that the Gugu Guru team is a huge fan of Lorena Canals rugs – we absolutely love that you can wash them at home, which makes them ideal for a nursery. Since many of the accessories in the baby’s nursery were homemade or unique, Angelique chose the Aztec Natural rug to match the theme of the nursery.

When she found out she was expecting, one of the first products Angelique and the Gugu Guru team talked about for the starry nursery was the famous 4Moms mamaRoo (check out how 4Moms is helping NICU’s worldwide with the mamaRoo). The mamaRoo has been a lifesaver for many parents and is a staple for Angelique’s nursery!

We are swooning over all of the adorable clothing in this closet! Is this baby set or what? And, of course, Angelique has a DockATot ready to go for baby lounging; for someone who travels a lot, like Angelique, the DockATot is a must have baby essential for a safe place for baby to play when out and about in the world.

4 New Nursery Trends for Millennial Parents

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

When it comes to designing a nursery, it seems as though the days of “blue or pink?” or “jungle animals or zoo animals?” are long gone! Nowadays, there are new nursery trends for millennial parents; it’s all about pattern, texture, and design elements – palm trees or flamingos? Gold polka dots or navy stripes? Whatever your style is, designing a nursery should be fun, so we rounded up some gorgeous nurseries for inspiration.

1. Black and White Nurseries: keep it chic and cool with these black and white styled nurseries – perfect for gender neutral rooms or when you don’t want to find out which sex you’re having. (Photo: Project Nursery)

Black and white isn’t your thing? Check out these red, white, and blue nurseries.

2. Gender Neutral Nurseries: This nursery inspiration from Lot801 has so many elements which are popular right now for nursery trends: the animal print on the wall, little gold animals, palm print, and even fresh plants in the nursery.

3. Gray nurseries: Gray nurseries are super popular for nursery trends right now, as they are gender neutral, grow easily with your baby’s style and complement so many other colors, so you can add pops of any color you want to the room! (Photo: Little Adi)

4. Botanical Style Nurseries: Palm trees, succulents, plants, oh my! Going for a crisp and cool look, many parents are opting for one of the most popular nursery trends, with botanical style nurseries – you can go palm and succulent, or you can always go floral, too! (Photo: Alissandra B)

The lovely ladies of Curated Nest have worked tirelessly to help us pack our registry full of the best nursery items you could think of. They have curated 4 new style boards: Mod, New Vintage, Traditional, and Boho!

Curated Nest is the stylish brainchild of Erin Coren and Lina Galvao, interior designers and recent first-time moms living in Brooklyn, NY. After designing nurseries for our their babies, they saw a need to change the way parents and loved ones shop for nurseries. And so Curated Nest was born.

At Curated Nest, Erin and Lina strive to curate beautiful and functional rooms with the coolest (and safest…yeah, they’re moms too) products in furniture and decor from hip sources and artists – so that you don’t have to scour the internet for that perfect piece or buy a matching set from a store. Pretty cool, eh?

Curated Nest has curated four new style boards for our registry – and not only that, but have personally added a ton (seriously, a ton) of new items to our nursery collections in our registry, making it super easy for any Gugu Guru mama to add everything she needs for the nursery to her registry. Cloud Pillows: They’re filled with a dense insert, so it’s great to use as a pillow on the floor and as a stuffed toy.
Crib Sheet: It gives you the perfect stage for insta-worthy monthly pics!
Giraffe Wall Mounted Head: A serious focal point in a nursery. It has amazing hand stitched detail and provides a whimsical design. They’re very light weight and plush so it’s safe for all ages.
Upholstered Rocker: We love how it transitions to anywhere in the house and it has a small footprint perfect for when every inch matters (urban nurseries).
Mid-Century Rocker: Same as above, but for mid-century modern.
Birch Tree: Great for hanging dress up clothes on and creates a whimsical vibe.
Macrame Wall Hanging: We love the boho texture it adds to a wall, especially when used within a art grouping of flat prints.
Woodland Wallpaper: Whimsy at its finest. The company is super clever as they make it available in removable and traditional glue application, so you can even use it in an apartment. The more you stare at it, the more details you see. Especially when you zombie out during 3am feedings.
Basket: Canvas and Pom Pom basket folds down and comes in various sizes so you can use for just about anything.
Washable Rug: The most brilliant product out there comes in a variety of patterns which can be thrown in the wash after your little one pulls an Exorcist and projectile spit ups everywhere
Leather Moroccan Pouf: Sophisticated and non “baby.” Perfect pouf for putting your feet up when rocking your babe, and as they grow up, a soft piece to learn to cruise on.

Nursery Essential: Ruggish Play Rugs

by Gugu Guru Leave a Comment

-Sponsored Post-

One of the questions we get asked daily is “what items are the best investment when it comes to nursery decor?” It’s a good question, because as we all know, diaper pails aren’t going to be needed forever, neither will mobiles, or even gliders, but one thing which a house always needs is somewhere safe, soft, and gorgeous to play, dream, and lay upon. Enter: Ruggish Play Rugs –  gorgeous play mats which are not only ideal for the nursery, but for your home decor.

You can find Ruggish on Facebook and Instagram.

Ruggish was founded by an interior designer and new mom who realized when it came to creating a safe, comfortable and beautiful, not to mention multipurpose space, for her new child, the options were slim. When it came to rugs, nothing was as cushioned as it should have been for hanging out on the floor, and the interlocking mats left lots of rooms for crumbs and dirt to fall through. As necessity is the mother of invention, Ruggish was born.

Ruggish is essentially a one-piece play mat  which offers the look of a rug and the feel of a play mat, allowing you to swap out your expensive rug for a long lasting, aesthetically pleasing, protective product that’s a fraction of the price. The rugs are 2-in-1, as one side is a stylish piece of art for your home, and the other side is a playmat for toddlers and kids.  A layer of memory foam provides more cushion than any foam tile, and an exceptionally comfortable place to play, and most importantly, they are durable and easy to wipe down. Many parents have also reported that Ruggish Play Rugs are ideal for doing yoga or even resting alongside their kids, without any aches or pains normally associated with playing on the floor!

Ruggish Play Rugs also make the list for eco-friendly living, as they are free of BPA, Phthalate, Lead, Latex, Formaldehyde and EVA, and tested to European Toy Standards. Plus, they feature a 1-year manufacturers warranty, and free shipping in the United States. Ruggish Play Rugs come in two designs, the Lulu and the Romy (we’ve featured the Romy in our gray nursery inspiration post). The back of each of the play rugs features a whimsical roadmap, pictured above.

As one of the reviews says, “We absolutely love our Romy play rug! As a family, laying and playing with our son Marcello on the play mat is our favorite part of the day. It’s incredibly comfortable, stylish, and multi-functional. Our son loves rolling, crawling and playing with his toys on the mat, I love stretching on it after the end of long day and my husband even naps on it! We love it so much we’ve ordered 3 of them for different rooms and are now considering another for our outdoor patio. This is an absolute must buy!”

Thank you to Ruggish for making this sponsored post possible.
